The Ionmax ION681 is a compact Peltier (thermoelectric) dehumidifier with manual and automatic modes. Its headline rating of 600 ml of water per day applies only at 30°C and 80% relative humidity, a hot and very humid test condition. That figure does not tell you how much moisture the unit will remove from a typical bedroom. The published specifications are clear, but independent performance evidence is thin. The owner reviews available at the time of writing are few and mixed, and no laboratory or hands-on test results were found for this model.
What the ION681 is
The ION681 is a small, free-standing dehumidifier that uses a Peltier cooling element to condense moisture from the air. The Ionmax quick guide describes it as “designed to remove excess moisture from small to medium indoor areas.” The guide does not name an individual author for that sentence, so it should be read as the manufacturer’s own product positioning.

The two weight figures conflict. The guide says 3.2 kg and the retailer says 2.6 kg. Weigh the unit or check the current manufacturer listing if portability matters to you. The 220–240 V, 50 Hz input is the market version described in the guide. If you are buying in a region with a different mains supply, confirm that the unit on sale matches your voltage and frequency before purchase.

Reading the 600 ml/day rating
A dehumidifier’s extraction rate depends heavily on the air it is working in. Warmer, wetter air holds more water vapour and generally produces higher output, so a rating taken at 30°C and 80% RH is a best-case figure for a bedroom that is usually cooler and drier. Expect a lower daily total in a typical room, and treat the 600 ml figure as a basis for comparison rather than a promise.
The same caution applies to comparisons between models. Ionmax also lists the ION610 at 6 L/day, but under 20°C and 60% RH. That is a different test condition, so the two numbers should not be ranked against each other.

- Manual and auto modes: manual runs continuously until you stop it, while auto uses the built-in humidistat to decide when to run.
- Integrated humidistat: sets the humidity level the unit works towards in auto mode.
- Timer: 6, 8 or 12 hour settings.
- Full-tank indicator and automatic shutoff: the unit signals when the 2.2 L tank is full and stops when it is.
- Filter: a basic filter that catches larger particles such as hair and dust. It is not a medical-grade or HEPA-style air purifier and should not be used as one.
The manual includes sections on operation, maintenance, storage, troubleshooting and warranty. Read the troubleshooting section before you assess auto-mode behaviour, because the humidistat settings are described there.

Sleep Solutions places the ION681 in a small-room category of up to 7.2 m². When you compare it with larger units, line up the room size, the test conditions, the tank capacity and the power draw, rather than comparing headline litres per day alone.

What owners report
The only owner reviews located were on ProductReview.com.au. When checked on 7 October 2026, the listing showed five reviews and an average rating of 2.9. Listings like this change over time, and five reviews are too few to describe typical performance. Two concerns stand out.

Limited humidity reduction
One reviewer said that bedroom humidity fell by only about one percentage point, measured on a separate humidity gauge. The review does not say what the starting humidity, room size or run time was, so it cannot be used to judge the unit on its own.

Auto mode not switching off as expected
Another reviewer said the unit kept running in auto mode when they expected it to switch off below 55% RH. Possible explanations include a humidistat set to a different target, a sensor that reads differently from the reviewer’s gauge, or a unit that needed a check. The listing does not say which applied.

How to check auto mode yourself
If you buy the ION681, you can test its behaviour with a separate digital hygrometer rather than relying on the unit’s own display. Hygrometers are inexpensive and are the simplest way to see whether the reading and the humidistat agree.

- Place the hygrometer at bed height, away from the unit’s air outlet and out of direct sun, and note the reading.
- Run the ION681 in manual mode for several hours and record the humidity and tank level at intervals.
- Return to the start of the test, switch to auto, and set the humidistat as described in the manual’s operating section.
- Note the humidity reading at which the unit stops. If it keeps running well past the target you set, compare the hygrometer with the unit’s setting before concluding that the auto mode is faulty.

Who the ION681 suits
- A good fit: a single small room, such as a bedroom or study, where you want a compact, moveable unit with basic automatic control.
- A poor fit: a larger room, a damp space that needs continuous high capacity, or any situation where you need air cleaning beyond large-particle filtering.
- Verify before you buy: the weight, the mains voltage for your region, and the current warranty terms, which the guide describes as one year.
