Internet Download Manager (IDM) 6.42 Build 36 was a maintenance release dated May 7, 2025. Its release notes list fixes for video recognition on some websites and other bugs—not a broad set of new features. It is no longer the latest release listed by Tonec: the vendor’s history shows IDM 6.43 Build 14, dated October 7, 2026. If you need IDM now, check the vendor’s update mechanism or release history rather than seeking out this older build.
What changed in IDM 6.42 Build 36?
Tonec’s release history says Build 36 resolved video-recognition problems on some websites and fixed bugs. The notes do not describe a major feature addition or promise that video capture will work on every site.
IDM is download-management software. Tonec describes features including dynamic file segmentation, resuming interrupted downloads, browser integration, queues, scheduling, and automatic download categories. Those are vendor descriptions; they are not independent measurements of download speed.

Is Build 36 the latest IDM release?
No. Tonec’s release history lists these subsequent releases:
#1 Best Overall
| Release | Date | Change noted by Tonec |
|---|---|---|
| 6.42 Build 40 | May 30, 2025 | Fixed a problem where some site download panels offered only 360p, addressed video-recognition problems, and fixed bugs. |
| 6.42 Build 42 | July 26, 2025 | Updated the Chrome extension for Manifest V3 support. |
| 6.42 Build 64 | May 16, 2026 | Resolved a 403 Forbidden problem and fixed bugs. |
| 6.43 Build 1 | June 15, 2026 | Added MP4 choices on some sites where only TS video had been available, alongside video-download fixes. |
| 6.43 Build 14 | October 7, 2026 | Fixed an issue where the IDM download panel did not appear on some videos and fixed bugs. |
These dates and changes come from the official IDM release history. Because releases and compatibility can change, consult that page or IDM’s own update mechanism before installing an older build.
What do you need for IDM browser capture?
Browser capture and IDM’s right-click options depend on the IDM Integration Module extension being installed and enabled in the browser. Tonec’s browser integration support page says the extension is needed to take over browser downloads and show IDM’s right-click menu items.

If IDM’s download panel does not appear, first check that the extension is enabled and that the browser is compatible with the IDM version in use. Site behavior can vary, so having the extension active does not guarantee that IDM will recognize every video or download.
Which operating systems does IDM support?
Tonec lists Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11, including 64-bit editions, in its compatibility FAQ. The FAQ says the current IDM does not support Unix/Linux, macOS, or mobile operating systems. It also says Windows XP and Vista support ended, with IDM 6.41 Build 2, released May 31, 2022, as the last compatible version for those systems.

Is there a free trial, and what happens afterward?
Tonec’s product page offers a 30-day trial without requiring an email address or credit card. Its purchase FAQ says a serial number is required after the trial period and states that registered users receive free updates to new versions for three years after registration. License duration, transfer rules, and update entitlements can depend on current terms, so confirm them on the vendor’s purchase page and FAQ before buying.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you install Build 36?
For most readers, there is little reason to seek out Build 36 specifically: its documented changes are limited to video-recognition and bug fixes, and later releases followed it. Use the vendor’s update mechanism or release history to identify the appropriate current version for your Windows system. Avoid treating a third-party download listing as proof that an older installer is current or suitable.
