What happened to the International Coffee Day live Q&A?
The event is no longer live. Tom’s Guide advertised answers through noon ET on October 1, with remaining answers on October 2. The host, Erin Bashford, is identified by the publication as a senior writer and ex-barista with three-and-a-half years of experience in chain and independent cafés. How to choose a coffee maker for your routine
There is no single best brewer for everyone. Start with how much coffee you make, how much convenience you want, and which drink you actually prefer. The Coffee Association of Canada recommends small drip or single-serve equipment for someone who typically drinks one cup, larger automatic drip or specialty machines for higher volume, and an espresso machine for someone seeking espresso. Decide by comparing a particular model’s capacity and routine fit with alternatives that make the kind of coffee you drink. Without a verified model-by-model comparison, “worth it” depends on your needs and budget rather than a blanket recommendation.

Is an AeroPress the best coffee maker?

How grind and dose affect the cup
Match grind size to the brewing method
Grind affects extraction and the resulting strength. The Coffee Association of Canada cautions that grounds that are too fine can make coffee strong or bitter, while grounds that are too coarse can produce a weak cup; consistency also matters. Use a starting dose, then adjust
The Coffee Association of Canada gives 1 to 1.5 tablespoons (15–25 mL) of coffee per 6-ounce (175 mL) cup as a general guideline. It is a starting point, not a precise universal recipe: adjust the amount to suit your taste and brewing method. Coffee Association of Canada: How To Brew Coffee
How to think about roasts, beans, and specialty coffee
No roast label guarantees that a coffee will suit your taste or be higher quality. The National Coffee Association notes that bean choice, extraction, drying, roasting, and storage all influence taste, texture, and caffeine. The Specialty Coffee Association defines specialty coffee as coffee or a coffee experience recognized for distinctive attributes that give it significant extra marketplace value. Those attributes can be sensory, such as flavor and aroma, or informational, such as origin and production practices.
