Intel announced on July 30, 2024, that it would launch its Lunar Lake mobile processors on September 3. The launch happened on that date: Intel introduced the family as Core Ultra 200V Series processors, with laptop preorders opening immediately and systems expected to reach stores and online retailers starting September 24, 2024.

Intel announced the September 3, 2024, launch date in a media alert on July 30, ahead of IFA 2024 in Berlin. The company held the launch on schedule. Intel’s July announcement and its September 3 launch release establish the dates.
What is Core Ultra 200V Series?
Core Ultra 200V Series is Intel’s name for its mobile Lunar Lake processor family. “Lunar Lake” is the code name; Core Ultra Series 2 is the broader product collection name. Intel’s launch release calls the mobile processors Core Ultra 200V, and its Core Ultra 9 288V specifications identify Lunar Lake as that processor’s former code name.

This was a laptop processor launch, not a standalone consumer desktop CPU launch. Intel said more than 80 consumer laptop designs from over 20 manufacturers were planned, naming Acer, ASUS, Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo, LG, MSI and Samsung among the partners.

When could buyers get Lunar Lake laptops?
Intel said preorders would begin on September 3, 2024, and that systems would become available globally online and in stores starting September 24. The latter was Intel’s stated rollout date; it does not establish that every model or configuration reached every retailer at the same time. Current stock and pricing are not established by those launch announcements.
What did Intel claim about performance, battery life and AI?
Intel’s September 2024 announcement made a series of product-family claims, including up to 50% lower package power, up to 120 total platform TOPS across the CPU, GPU and NPU, an NPU it described as up to four times more powerful than the previous generation, up to three times more performance per thread and up to 80% peak performance uplift. Intel also said productivity use cases could reach up to 20 hours of battery life.

These are Intel’s qualified claims, not independently verified results for every laptop. Actual speed and battery life depend on the laptop design and workload; no independent, like-for-like assessment of the full lineup is established here. Intel said systems running the latest Windows version would be eligible for Copilot+ PC features as a free update starting in November 2024; that was a time-specific eligibility statement, not a claim about present software availability.
What does one Core Ultra 200V processor offer?
Intel’s specifications for the Core Ultra 9 288V list 8 cores—4 performance cores and 4 low-power efficient cores—and 8 threads. The page lists a maximum turbo frequency of 5.1 GHz, processor base power of 30 W, maximum turbo power of 37 W, minimum assured power of 17 W, and 120 peak TOPS. These figures describe the 288V specifically and should not be applied to every Core Ultra 200V model.
