Intel appointed Stacy J. Smith chief financial officer on October 16, 2007, effective immediately, replacing Andy Bryant. Bryant moved into a newly created chief administrative officer role, and Intel described the change as part of its long-term succession planning.
Who replaced Andy Bryant as Intel CFO?
Stacy J. Smith, then 44, became Intel’s CFO. Before the appointment, he had spent 18 months as assistant CFO and managed the company’s financial operations alongside Bryant. The October 16, 2007 announcement said Smith would continue to report to Bryant.
Why did Intel move Andy Bryant up?
Bryant became chief administrative officer in a newly created role. Intel presented the change as planned succession, not as an unexpected departure. The announcement did not specify the full duties or scope of the new administrative position, so it should not be read as a detailed account of Bryant’s responsibilities.

What the succession meant for Intel’s finance operations
The appointment was an internal promotion: Smith had already been working with Bryant on financial operations before taking over as CFO. Because he would continue reporting to Bryant in Bryant’s new role, the announcement described a leadership change with continuity between the two executives rather than an abrupt break in the finance function.
