The Insta360 Luna Ultra’s main draw is a combination unusual in a pocket gimbal camera: a 20mm-equivalent main lens, a separate 60mm-equivalent telephoto lens, and a detachable touchscreen that can also act as a remote control. It is a conventional-framed camera, not a 360-degree model. That flexibility comes at a premium launch price, and published reviews describe it as a capable vlogging alternative, but the available evidence does not establish current pricing or stock.
What kind of camera is the Luna Ultra?
The Luna Ultra is a compact camera mounted on a three-axis mechanical gimbal. Its two lenses use separate sensors and provide different fields of view: a wide main camera for general scenes and a tighter telephoto camera for bringing distant subjects closer. Insta360 says the camera was co-engineered with Leica.
Despite the dual-lens design, it does not record a full spherical 360-degree image. An India-focused review describes it as a standard-framed camera. If your priority is choosing a viewpoint after recording by reframing a spherical capture, this is the wrong category of camera.
What do the two lenses and video modes offer?
| Camera | Manufacturer-listed specification | Practical role |
|---|---|---|
| Main | 1-inch sensor; 20mm-equivalent focal length; f/1.8 | Wide framing for travel scenes, walk-and-talk footage, and close-to-camera vlogging. |
| Telephoto | 1/1.3-inch sensor; 60mm-equivalent focal length; f/2.0 | A tighter view for distant details or a more compressed-looking composition without relying solely on digital cropping. |
Insta360 lists recording modes up to 8K (7680 × 4320) at 30 fps, 4K at 120 fps, and 1080p at 240 fps. These are maximums across listed modes, not frame rates available in every setting: supported rates vary by mode and aspect ratio, and specialized modes have their own limits. Check the official Luna Ultra specifications for the mode and framing you intend to use.
#1 Best Overall
- Dual Leica Lenses, Pro-Grade Imaging System: Dual Leica lens design combines a 1" main sensor with a pro-grade telephoto lens featuring a 1/1.3" sensor and F2.0 aperture, this vlogging camera delivers exceptional detail, depth, and versatility across every shot.
- Leica Color Science: Leica color profiles and cinematic filters work together to deliver refined, Hollywood-ready color straight from the gimbal camera. Instantly apply and share signature looks with QR Color Share.
- Detachable Touchscreen for Flexible Shooting: Use the detachable 2" OLED touchscreen for live preview and remote control up to 20m away, ideal for solo shooting, vlogging, and group shots.
- True-to-Life Portrait Video: This digital camera captures stunning 4K portrait videos with intelligent Beauty Mode. Advanced algorithms recognize faces, adapt to different skin tones, and allow adjustable tone and smoothing for natural results.
- Stabilization and Smart Tracking: Record smooth footage with 3-axis mechanical stabilization while AI tracking keeps your subject centered and in focus, even in motion.
The range gives creators options for high-resolution footage and slow-motion capture, but headline resolution alone does not establish image quality. The reviewed sources do not provide a controlled, directly comparable test of the Luna Ultra against competing cameras in low light, motion, or every focal length.
How do stabilization, tracking, and the screen work?
The camera uses three-axis mechanical stabilization, which physically compensates for movement as the gimbal adjusts the camera’s orientation. Insta360 also lists Deep Track 5.0 subject tracking. These are manufacturer-listed capabilities; they should not be read as a guarantee that tracking will hold every subject in every scene.

A detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen is another defining feature. Attached, it provides a compact on-camera display and control surface; detached, it can be used to frame or control the camera remotely. That may be useful for solo creators who want to monitor a shot while standing in front of the lens. The available reviews do not establish a controlled comparison of its range or responsiveness against rivals.
How much storage and battery life does it have?
Insta360 lists 47GB of internal storage and microSD support up to 2TB on its current product and specification pages. Digital Camera World’s review instead lists support up to 1TB. Because the manufacturer’s current specification is the more direct source for the stated limit, 2TB is the published figure here; check Insta360’s current card guidance and a card’s compatibility before buying.

Insta360 states a runtime of 240 minutes, but that figure comes from a manufacturer lab test at 25°C recording 1080p24 with the screen and Wi-Fi turned off. It is not an independent result or a promise of four hours in ordinary use. Recording mode, screen use, wireless connections, temperature, and other conditions can affect runtime.
What did reviewers say about using it?
TechRadar says its reviewer tested the camera for a month and describes it as an impressive compact-vlogging alternative. The review says Insta360 supplied a Creator Bundle for testing, a relevant disclosure when considering its impressions. Digital Camera World says its reviewer used a pre-release unit updated to launch firmware over several weeks and across locations.

Those are named reviewers’ assessments, not hands-on findings from this article. Their reports support the view that the Luna Ultra is a serious option in the compact gimbal category, but they do not remove the need to weigh its price, controls, image quality, and workflow against your own needs.
What does it cost, and is it worth the price?
Insta360 announced a U.S. starting price of $769.99 on June 10, 2026, and named Amazon and other retailers as sales channels. That is a historical launch figure, not a verified current price or confirmation of stock. The same announcement does not establish pricing for every region. TechRadar reported launch pricing of $769.99, £649, and AU$1,229.99; Digital Camera World reported $769.99, £649.99, and AU$1,229.99 for its listed standard bundle. The small UK-price difference is a discrepancy between the reviews, not a current-price quote.

Insta360 India’s review page lists ₹85,990 and notes that prices and bundles change. Treat that as a region-specific page figure, not a universal or guaranteed current price. Check a local seller’s current listing and the bundle contents before comparing totals.
Whether the Luna Ultra is worth the price depends chiefly on whether you will use its two-camera perspective range and detachable control screen. It is easier to justify for a creator who wants both wide and telephoto framing in one gimbal camera than for someone who will record almost everything with a single wide view. The launch price puts it in a premium decision; the reviewed sources do not normalize current competing-model prices or bundles, so a precise present-day price comparison is not established.

Insta360’s compatibility table lists a broad set of Luna Ultra accessories, plus two compatible wireless microphone families. Compatibility does not establish that an item is currently available in your region or included with the camera.

Is it suitable for rain or splashes?
The reviewed official pages do not show a formal waterproof rating. An India-focused review says the camera is not waterproof or splash-proof and advises keeping it away from rain and splashes. With no formal manufacturer rating established in the available documentation, do not treat it as suitable for wet-weather use.
Quick Recap
Who should consider the Luna Ultra?
- Consider it if you want a portable gimbal camera with both wide and telephoto optical viewpoints, and expect to use the detachable screen for remote framing.
- Look elsewhere if your essential requirement is spherical 360-degree capture, or if you need a verified water-resistance rating.
- Compare carefully if price is the deciding factor: confirm current local pricing, bundle contents, card compatibility, and the specific recording modes you plan to use.
