Neither provider is a universal winner. For the VPS examples reviewed on October 4, 2026, InMotion displays a lower starting price and lists Launch Assist and control-panel options; ScalaHosting emphasizes managed cloud VPS features, including offsite backups and migration assistance. The prices are not a like-for-like comparison: ScalaHosting’s build is configurable, and the selected resource quantities are not fully established. Choose based on your required resources, management needs, location, billing term, and renewal budget.

What this comparison covers

This comparison focuses on VPS hosting, not a general contest across every product tier. InMotion lists shared, WordPress, VPS, dedicated, and reseller hosting, while the ScalaHosting page reviewed centers on configurable managed cloud VPS and the company also promotes WordPress cloud hosting. Compare plans within the same tier; a shared-hosting price cannot establish which VPS provider is better. (InMotion VPS plans; ScalaHosting managed cloud hosting)

How the displayed VPS offers compare

Decision point InMotion Hosting ScalaHosting
Displayed example price $9.99/month for the cited 4-vCPU plan on a 24-month term; displayed renewal is $16.99/month. $29.95/month for the first managed cloud build; displayed renewal is $54.95/month.
Example resources 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 160 GB NVMe, 5 TB bandwidth, and two dedicated IPs. CPU, memory, and NVMe storage are configurable; selected quantities for the displayed first build are not established in the page extraction.
Management and onboarding Provider lists Launch Assist, transfers, server setup, dedicated IPs, and cPanel or Control Web Panel availability. Provider lists managed cloud features including migrations and automatic offsite backups.
Location snapshot Three locations in the VPSBenchmarks feature snapshot; TechRadar reports California, Virginia, and Amsterdam facilities. Thirteen locations in the VPSBenchmarks feature snapshot.

Prices and plan details were displayed on provider pages accessed October 4, 2026; they can change. InMotion’s example is tied to a 24-month commitment, and its page shows prices for other terms. ScalaHosting’s build is configurable, so the displayed first-build price does not establish the cost of matching InMotion’s stated resources. Check the selected configuration, term, taxes or other checkout charges, renewal rate, and refund terms before ordering. (InMotion VPS plans; ScalaHosting managed cloud hosting)

When InMotion is the better fit

You want the lower displayed price for the cited VPS example

InMotion’s listed 4-vCPU example starts at $9.99 per month on a 24-month term and renews at $16.99 per month. That is a notably lower displayed price than ScalaHosting’s first managed cloud build, but it is not proof of lower cost for equivalent configurations. Match resources and features, then compare the full commitment and renewal cost.

You need onboarding or a particular control panel

InMotion lists Launch Assist, website transfers, and cPanel or Control Web Panel availability for VPS. These may matter if you are moving an existing site or have a control-panel preference. Confirm what is included with the exact plan and whether your chosen panel affects the price. (InMotion VPS plans)

You want a wider range of hosting tiers

InMotion’s listed catalog spans shared, WordPress, VPS, dedicated, and reseller hosting. That breadth may be useful if you expect to change hosting tiers, but it does not by itself indicate better VPS performance or value. (InMotion hosting plans)

When ScalaHosting is the better fit

You value a managed cloud feature set

ScalaHosting lists automatic offsite backups, a dedicated IP, website and email migration, SSL certificates, malware protection, WordPress staging and cloning, and global CDN integration on its managed cloud page. Confirm that each feature applies to the configuration and billing term you select; listed features are provider claims, not independently tested outcomes. (ScalaHosting managed cloud hosting)

You need a location that suits your visitors

VPSBenchmarks’ feature snapshot lists thirteen ScalaHosting data centers and three for InMotion. TechRadar’s January 22, 2026 InMotion review reports facilities in California, Virginia, and Amsterdam. These are source-specific snapshots, not a guarantee that every location is available for every plan. Check that your preferred location can be selected for the exact build. You are comfortable with the displayed renewal price

ScalaHosting’s first managed cloud build was shown at $29.95 per month, renewing at $54.95, when its page was accessed October 4, 2026. The page allows CPU, memory, and NVMe storage configuration, so select the needed resources and verify the actual checkout and renewal amounts before comparing it with another provider. How to compare equivalent plans

Before choosing, write down what the workload needs, then compare both providers against the same checklist. A cheap entry price is useful only if the plan can run your site with the management and safeguards you require.

  • Resources: Match vCPU, RAM, storage type and capacity, and bandwidth. ScalaHosting’s displayed build is configurable; do not assume its first-build quantities match InMotion’s example.
  • Management: Compare migration help, onboarding, backups, SSL, malware protection, and staging. Check plan-specific limits and terms rather than treating a provider-wide feature list as a promise for every configuration.
  • Control panel: Confirm whether the plan includes cPanel, Control Web Panel, or another interface and whether licensing changes the total.
  • Location: Choose a currently selectable data center appropriate for your audience. Provider counts from comparison pages are snapshots and do not prove that a desired location is offered on a particular plan.
  • Total cost: Compare the billing commitment, introductory amount, renewal rate, and any applicable add-ons or refund conditions.
  • Workload performance: Look for measurements on comparable configurations and a workload like yours rather than relying on broad performance claims.

What independent performance comparisons can—and cannot—tell you

VPSBenchmarks says its grades draw on web, CPU, endurance, disk, and network tests, and that price is excluded from its default performance grades. Its listed ScalaHosting plans have different resource profiles and trial dates; the reviewed material does not provide an equivalent, universal InMotion-versus-ScalaHosting matchup. Use the individual plan details and test methodology, not a single grade, to judge a workload-specific choice. (VPSBenchmarks provider comparison and methodology)

The same comparison snapshot marks both providers for backups and DDoS protection, lists load balancing for ScalaHosting but not InMotion, and SSH key setup for InMotion but not ScalaHosting. These are benchmark-site feature listings, not a substitute for confirming current product-level availability. TechRadar’s January 22, 2026 InMotion review is separate context, not a matched test against ScalaHosting; it also notes that InMotion’s uptime wording and guarantee terms are not consistently clear across reviewed pages. No direct workload, migration, support, or uptime test establishes a winner here. (VPSBenchmarks provider comparison; TechRadar InMotion review)

Decision guide

  • Choose InMotion if its displayed 4-vCPU example meets your needs, you value its listed Launch Assist or control-panel options, and the selected term and renewal fit your budget.
  • Choose ScalaHosting if its managed cloud feature set and a selectable location suit your requirements, and the configured plan’s initial and renewal costs are acceptable.
  • Keep comparing if performance is decisive: first identify your workload, then seek independent results for comparable resources and test conditions.
