Inhibrx Biosciences (Nasdaq: INBX) has two features drawing attention: a third-party ledger counted about $4.0 million in reported open-market insider purchases in a 90-day window, and MarketBeat’s September 15, 2026 report put short interest at 28.2% of float. Together, they describe a potentially volatile, catalyst-sensitive biotech setup—not proof that a short squeeze is likely or that insiders are anticipating a particular outcome.
What the insider-buying reports show
Inhibrx’s investor-relations filings index lists Form 4 statements dated September 8 and September 10, 2026. Form 4 is the public filing used to report changes in insiders’ beneficial ownership; an index entry confirms a filing date, but does not by itself show the transaction details.
Follow the Filings, a third-party SEC-filing ledger, counted six Form 4 filings from four reporting persons in its recent 90-day window. It reported $3,999,597 in open-market purchases across nine Table I rows by three insiders, and $279,010 in sales across five rows by one insider. The ledger identified CEO Mark Lappe and directors Douglas Forsyth and Jon Kayyem among the purchasers. It reports that the purchases occurred between September 8 and 16; the company’s index separately confirms Form 4 filing dates of September 8 and 10.

Follow the Filings says its totals exclude Table II derivative awards and exercises and use the first reporting owner for filings with multiple owners. Form 4 filings do not state why someone bought or sold. The ledger’s purchase total and its per-person summaries should therefore be treated as reported data, not as a complete analysis of each buyer’s holdings or motives.

How high was INBX short interest?
MarketBeat’s periodic short-interest history shows an increase in reported shares sold short between its August 31 and September 15, 2026 report dates. The figures are vendor estimates for those report dates, not live short-position data.
| Report date | Shares sold short | Percent of reported float | Days to cover |
|---|---|---|---|
| August 31, 2026 | 3,297,743 | 27.4% | 10.39 |
| September 15, 2026 | 3,393,511 | 28.2% | 8.31 |
Across those two observations, reported short shares rose by 95,768 and short interest as a share of float rose by 0.8 percentage points, while days to cover fell by 2.08. The last measure is a ratio that depends on the volume window and reported float; it does not mean short sellers must repurchase their positions within that many days. Data providers may also differ in their float or calculation methods.

Why the figures do not establish a squeeze
Short interest can magnify a price move if short sellers need to buy shares to close positions while available supply is limited. But a high reading alone does not show that a forced buy-in is imminent, or that a squeeze will happen. Short sellers can add, reduce, or roll exposure, and trading volume, liquidity, new share issuance, and company news can change the conditions behind the ratio.
Insider purchases are another observed data point, not a forecast. A director or executive may buy for reasons that are not disclosed in a Form 4. Inhibrx’s proxy describes a policy that generally bars directors and executives from transactions intended to profit from short-term speculative swings, including short sales and listed options. That policy provides context about the company’s stated trading rules; it does not explain any individual purchase or make the purchase predictive.

The clinical catalyst behind the attention
Inhibrx’s September 8, 2026 release reported Phase 2 results for INBRX-106, a hexavalent OX40 agonist, in combination with pembrolizumab versus pembrolizumab alone as first-line treatment for patients with PD-L1-positive, CPS ≥20 metastatic or unresectable recurrent head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC).
| Company-reported measure | INBRX-106 plus pembrolizumab | Pembrolizumab alone |
|---|---|---|
| Confirmed objective response rate (cORR) | 48.3% | 26.5% |
| Progression-free at six months | 72.4% | 42.8% |
These are company-reported Phase 2 findings, not proof of clinical benefit, a regulatory decision, or a treatment recommendation. The company said the apparent benefit was most pronounced among HPV-positive patients and planned to add approximately 50 HPV-positive participants. The reported figures should be read in the context of that study population and the company’s interim update, not generalized to other patients or settings.

A July 15, 2026 SEC-filed loan amendment described an Oxford Finance facility with a maximum of up to $500 million. The amendment provided for $100 million funded at execution; up to another $225 million could be made available in increments of at least $50 million, at the company’s request and the lenders’ sole discretion. The filing also describes warrants tied to funding.

How to read the INBX setup
- Insider activity: The reported purchases are a notable cluster, but the third-party tally does not establish the buyers’ reasons or predict an outcome.
- Short interest: The September 15 reading was elevated in the cited vendor report, but it is periodic rather than real-time and does not establish squeeze timing or probability.
- Potential catalyst: The September Phase 2 update supplies a clinical event for investors to assess, while remaining company-reported data from a specific trial population.
- Financing: The loan amendment sets out a potentially large facility, but much of its headline amount was not funded at execution and further borrowing was conditional.
For a transaction-by-transaction view, consult the underlying Form 4 ownership reports rather than relying only on an aggregated ledger. Also distinguish INBX, Inhibrx Biosciences, from former parent Inhibrx, Inc.; they are not interchangeable company references.
