Which screen is better for everyday use?
Both phones are listed with HD+ resolution and refresh rates up to 120Hz. The Redmi A7 has the larger screen at 6.88 inches, compared with the Smart 20 HD’s reported 6.67 inches. That gives the A7 more physical display area on paper, while both share the same stated maximum refresh rate. Resolution and refresh rate alone do not establish brightness, color, viewing angles, or how consistently a phone maintains its refresh rate.
Xiaomi’s India product page describes the A7 display as giving users “more space to enjoy everything you do on your phone.” That is manufacturer marketing language, not an independent assessment of viewing experience.

Camera hardware: Redmi A7 has the higher listed rear resolution
Xiaomi lists a 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera for the Redmi A7. The Smart 20 HD launch report lists 8MP cameras on both the rear and front. The A7 therefore has the higher stated rear-camera resolution, while their listed front-camera resolutions match.
Megapixel counts do not show which phone takes better photos. Image processing, lens and sensor characteristics, focus, and performance in different lighting conditions are not established by these specifications. Choose based on the hardware distinction only unless you can compare sample photos from the exact regional models.
Battery, charging, and storage
The Redmi A7’s listed typical battery capacity is 5,200mAh, compared with the Smart 20 HD’s reported 5,000mAh. Both are listed with 15W charging, although Xiaomi specifies 15W as the A7’s maximum and says the charger is included. These capacity figures do not establish which phone lasts longer: screen use, software, signal conditions, and other factors affect endurance, and no matched battery test is available here.
Both phones support microSD expansion. Xiaomi specifies a dedicated slot supporting cards up to 2TB for the Redmi A7; the cited Smart 20 HD report confirms expansion but does not state a maximum capacity. Check the exact regional model and card compatibility before buying a card.
Durability and software support
The Smart 20 HD is reported with an IP64 rating, while Xiaomi lists IP52 for the Redmi A7. These are different ingress-protection ratings, not guarantees that a phone is waterproof or damage-proof. Do not treat either rating as permission to submerge a phone or use it without care around liquids and dust.

Xiaomi states that the Redmi A7 receives two years of OS updates and four years of security updates. The cited Smart 20 HD launch coverage lists Android 15 with XOS 15.1 but does not establish a comparable update commitment. That means the A7 has the clearer documented support policy in the available India-specific information; it does not prove how quickly updates will arrive.

“Redmi A-series” is not a precise model name. If you meant the Redmi A5 instead, Xiaomi India lists a 6.88-inch HD+ display with up to 120Hz, 3GB+64GB or 4GB+128GB configurations, a 32MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera, a 5,200mAh battery, IP52, Android 15, microSD support up to 2TB, and two Android updates plus four years of security patches. Which should you choose?
- Choose the Redmi A7 if you want the clearer official update commitment, a higher listed rear-camera resolution than the Smart 20 HD, and a specified dedicated microSD slot supporting up to 2TB.
- Consider the Smart 20 HD if the reported IP64 rating is the deciding factor and its actual current price and configuration compare favorably with the A7.
- Compare current prices before buying. The ₹10,999 figure is a reported Smart 20 HD launch starting price; it is not a matched current-price comparison. Verify the seller’s current price, stock, included configuration, and any offer terms for both phones.
These are specification-based trade-offs, not results from matched speed, battery, durability, or camera tests. Also make sure a listing is for the Smart 20 HD: Infinix’s separate Smart 20 (without “HD”) has different listed specifications, including Android 16 and a 5,200mAh battery, so those details should not be applied to the HD model.
