A ZoomEye SDK query run on 25 September 2026 returned 48,183 matches on port 47808 and 42,025 on port 44818, according to StarkMan’s 28 September 2026 report. Those are counts of matching internet-visible ports—not verified counts of BACnet devices, EtherNet/IP equipment, or exposed controllers. The distinction matters: a port match alone does not confirm what is listening, whether it is production equipment, or whether it is vulnerable.
What the two counts measure
StarkMan reported that ZoomEye SDK queries using sub_type=all and total-count output returned these results for queries run on 25 September 2026:

The source is StarkMan’s report on DEV Community. These are single-date query totals, not a live or permanent census. The report provides no independent validation or second measurement of the same figures.

Why a port match is not a device count
The reported queries search for listeners on particular ports. They do not verify protocol identity, device type, protocol version, or the role of a system. A service can listen on a port associated with a protocol without being a genuine device from that protocol family. The report also notes that honeypots may deliberately listen on industrial ports.

The counts cannot distinguish production equipment from test benches. They also do not show that any matched system was compromised, exploitable, or even operating as a building controller or industrial PLC. For that reason, describing the results as “48,183 exposed BACnet controllers” or “42,025 exposed EtherNet/IP PLCs” would claim more than the measurements establish.
How the ports relate to the protocols
Port 47808 and BACnet/IP
The BACnet Committee identifies UDP port 47808 as the default for BACnet/IP, while noting that BACnet/IP devices can be configured to use another port. That makes a match on port 47808 relevant to BACnet/IP, but not proof that the listener is a BACnet device. Conversely, BACnet/IP using a different configured port would not necessarily appear in a query limited to 47808. See the committee’s technical paper on building wide-area networks with BACnet.

Port 44818 and EtherNet/IP
StarkMan’s report associates port 44818 with EtherNet/IP in industrial automation. The reported query was still a port search: it does not independently establish that each match is an EtherNet/IP device, identify a device model or version, or show whether it is used in production.

What the figures say about security—and what they do not
An internet-reachable service can warrant investigation, but these two counts are not evidence of compromise or a vulnerability. They do not establish which security controls are enabled or whether a system accepts unauthorized commands. Treat the figures as an indication of port exposure that needs asset-owner validation, not a vulnerability tally.

BACnet is a building automation and control network standard maintained through ASHRAE SSPC 135. The BACnet Committee also documents BACnet/SC, a secure communication option that uses WebSockets and TLS for peer authentication, message encryption, and reliable connection-oriented communication. It can be implemented on IPv4 or IPv6 networks. The scan results reveal nothing about whether matched systems support or use BACnet/SC. The committee describes the option in its BACnet/SC announcement.

CISA’s guidance for control-system devices recommends minimizing internet exposure, keeping control systems inaccessible from the internet, and placing control networks and remote devices behind firewalls and apart from business networks. For remote access that is necessary, use secure methods and keep them current. CISA also cautions that a VPN is only as secure as the devices connected to it. These recommendations appear in its Positron Broadcast Signal Processor advisory.

- Validate the asset: Check whether a reported port match belongs to your organization and identify the actual service and device before drawing conclusions.
- Review reachability: Determine whether the service needs to be reachable from the public internet; remove unnecessary exposure and restrict access to approved networks.
- Separate control systems: Keep control-system networks isolated from business networks and protect necessary remote connections with secure, maintained access controls.
- Assess the protocol configuration: Where BACnet is in use, determine which communication methods and security features the installation actually supports and has enabled.
