The headline’s attribution to an RBI Governor and its claim that India’s startup scene is gaining steam cannot be verified from the available sources. A more limited signal is documented: Info Edge said it had invested ₹1,003 crore across 54 AI and deeptech startups since 2020. That is one investor’s portfolio disclosure—not a measure of total Indian startup funding or proof of a market-wide acceleration.

Can the statement be attributed to an RBI Governor?

The available sources do not identify a matching speech, transcript, event, or report in which an RBI Governor made the statement in the headline. No quotation or specific Governor can therefore be reliably attached to it. The attribution and the broad claim that India’s startup scene is gaining momentum remain unverified.

That distinction matters: a central bank governor’s assessment would be a macroeconomic view, while the figures below describe one investor’s activity. One does not establish the other.

What Info Edge disclosed about its AI and deeptech investments

In its June 2026 shareholder letter, Info Edge (India) Limited said it had invested ₹1,003 crore across 54 AI and deeptech startups since 2020. The company said its investments span enterprise AI, robotics, semiconductors, spacetech, biotechnology, and electric mobility. Info Edge (India) Limited, June 2026 shareholder letter.

The company also reported ₹614 crore invested across 28 AI startups and ₹455 crore across 30 deeptech companies. These are separate portfolio figures; the letter’s categories should not be treated as mutually exclusive or added together to produce a combined total. Info Edge described its deeptech portfolio as younger than its other investments and said many investments were made at the intellectual-property creation and research-and-development stage. That indicates the early-stage character of those investments, not that the companies have completed development or achieved commercial success.

What these figures do—and do not—show

  • They show: Info Edge’s stated investment activity across its AI and deeptech portfolio since 2020, as reported by the company in June 2026.
  • They do not show: total funding raised by Indian startups, whether funding across the country is accelerating, or how much enterprise AI is being adopted by businesses.
  • They do not establish: the source or context of the headline’s RBI Governor attribution, or the eventual commercial outcomes of the portfolio companies.

A single investor’s portfolio can offer a concrete example of capital being directed toward AI and deeptech, but it is not a nationwide funding series. Establishing a market trend would require comparable data covering a defined period, geography, and set of funding transactions.
