Abhishek Sharma’s 61 from 28 balls gave India a substantial early scoring cushion in the Asian Games men’s T20 final against Pakistan. India had reached 81/2 after six overs, then slowed sharply through the middle passage. That early surge created room to absorb the dip—but it did not produce the final 211/6 on its own. Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube supplied crucial late runs, and India won by 19 runs.
What happened in the final
At Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on 3 October 2026, India made 211/6 and defeated Pakistan, who finished on 192/6. The innings had two contrasting phases: an explosive start led by Sharma, followed by a difficult middle passage and a late recovery.
Sharma scored 61 from 28 balls, hitting seven sixes and three fours at a scorecard strike rate of 217.85. India were 81/2 at the end of the six-over powerplay. He was dismissed at 93/3 in 7.5 overs. The BCCI match centre records the venue, date and result; the Hindustan Times scorecard records the innings figures.

How the early runs created a cushion
The score progression shows why Sharma’s start mattered. India had already scored 81 by the end of the powerplay, and stood at 93 when he fell. In practical terms, the innings had built a high early base before its scoring rate dipped. That made the middle-overs slowdown less damaging to the eventual total than it might have been from a more modest start.

Hindustan Times’ match analysis reports that India scored 56 runs from overs 7–15 while losing three wickets, including just 15 runs in overs 11–15. Those phase figures describe the pressure point: India’s innings lost momentum even as wickets fell. They should be understood as that outlet’s analysis of this match, not as a separate official measure of “collapse insurance.”
Why Sharma’s innings was not the whole story
The early platform still needed a finish. After Sharma’s dismissal, Tilak Varma made 51 not out from 22 balls and Shivam Dube scored 27 from 15. Their late contributions helped take India to 211/6. The scorecard therefore supports a narrower claim than saying Sharma alone rescued or secured the innings: his runs gave India room to withstand a slowdown, while later batters converted that platform into a formidable total.

What “collapse insurance” can—and cannot—mean
Here, “insurance” is a metaphor for the value of scoring quickly before a difficult phase. It is not a recognized cricket statistic, and one final cannot establish that Sharma reliably protects India whenever the middle order falters. The available figures make the cushion interpretation plausible, but they do not model the counterfactual—what India would have scored without his 61.

As context, the ICC reported that Sharma scored 80 runs in six matches at the 2026 T20 World Cup, averaging 13.33 at a strike rate of 131.14. Those are tournament-specific figures from a different competition, not an explanation for his performance in this final. See the ICC report published 3 March 2026.
