Indeed is an online job-search and recruitment service with tools for finding jobs, applying, managing a resume, and controlling whether employers can discover a profile. It can help organize a job search, but a listing on Indeed is not a guarantee that an employer or opportunity is legitimate. Verify each offer, understand what employers may see, and never pay to apply.
What Indeed offers job seekers
Indeed’s job-seeker help materials cover accounts, applications, resumes, mobile apps, profile visibility, and service support. The employer help center addresses companies and recruiters using hiring tools. Together, these describe a service for both sides of recruitment, but they do not establish that Indeed produces better hiring outcomes or more relevant listings than other job boards.
Indeed’s official About Indeed page and customer service center are starting points for current product guidance. Features and availability can vary by location or change over time; check the options shown in your local account rather than assuming a particular feature is free or paid.
Is Indeed legitimate, and does that make every listing safe?
Indeed publishes job-seeker safety guidance and ways to report suspicious activity. That is useful, but it does not certify every employer, message, or job post. Treat each opportunity as something to verify independently, especially before sharing personal information or taking an action requested by a recruiter.
How to check whether an Indeed job may be a scam
Indeed’s safe job-search guidance recommends checking the employer and the details of the offer. Use these checks before proceeding:
- Verify the sender’s email domain. Check that it matches the company’s official website. Be cautious of free email accounts, misspellings, or domains that imitate a real company.
- Match the offer to the job. Confirm that the role and terms correspond to the position you applied for. An unexpected offer for a different job deserves scrutiny.
- Question unusually attractive terms. Investigate pay, perks, or remote-work promises that seem too good to be true.
- Expect a credible interview. Be cautious if the employer avoids both an in-person and a video interview.
- Do not send money. You should not pay to apply, cash a check, send funds, or conduct financial transactions for an employer.
- Report suspicious activity. Use Indeed’s reporting options for questionable job posts or messages.
Can employers see your Indeed profile, saved jobs, or search history?
Indeed’s visibility guidance is specific to the discoverable-profile setting described on its Canadian help page. When employers can find your profile, they may see selected profile and resume details, qualifications, contact information such as your city and state, and your online status. Employers can also see the resume information you submit with an application.
Indeed says employers cannot see your search history, saved jobs, or job alerts. If you change your profile visibility later, that change may not retract resume details an employer already received. What to include in an Indeed resume
Indeed’s Job Seeker Guidelines describe job-relevant materials that may be appropriate, including a resume, cover letter, writing samples, certifications, and professional licenses. Keep the content relevant to the role and avoid placing sensitive private information in a resume.

- Check the document for personal details you do not intend to share before making a profile discoverable or applying.
- Indeed says it may hide resumes that do not meet its quality standards.
- Indeed also says it may limit how many applications a person can submit in a day.
Do you have to pay to apply on Indeed?
Indeed’s safety guidance says job seekers should never pay to apply for a job. Do not send money or perform financial transactions for an employer as part of an application or hiring process. This warning concerns payment to apply or to an employer; it does not establish the price of every optional Indeed feature, which should be checked in the local product flow.
