These are three separate cybersecurity stories, not parts of one attack: Disney reportedly chose to leave Slack after internal data was stolen; Binance warned that malware can swap a copied crypto wallet address; and Cyble described a malicious registration-form lure aimed at people connected to a defense conference. The practical lesson varies by case: review access to business communications, verify wallet addresses before sending, and treat unexpected event files with caution.
Why Disney reportedly decided to leave Slack
Disney decided to transition away from Slack after a July 2024 breach involving leaked internal company data, according to contemporary reporting summarized by SecurityWeek. The roundup reported that about 1.1 terabytes of Disney Slack data had been stolen; that is a reported quantity, not an independently verified measurement in the roundup. SecurityWeek’s September 20, 2024 roundup covers the decision and reported data theft.
BleepingComputer, citing CNBC, said Disney had begun migrating to “streamlined enterprise-wide collaboration tools,” with the transition expected to be complete at the end of the company’s next fiscal quarter. That was the reported schedule at the time, not confirmation that the migration later finished. Disney CFO Hugh Johnston was quoted by Fortune as telling employees: “I would like to share that senior leadership has made the decision to transition away from Slack across the company.” BleepingComputer’s report on the migration and Fortune’s account of Johnston’s statement provide those details.

What Binance’s clipper-malware warning means for crypto transfers
Binance warned on September 13, 2024 that clipper malware can monitor clipboard contents, especially crypto wallet addresses, and replace a copied address with one controlled by an attacker. If the substituted destination is not noticed before a transfer is completed, the funds go to the wrong address. Binance said the activity it observed notably spiked on August 27, 2024, and that affected users suffered significant losses, but it gave neither a total loss amount nor a victim count. Binance’s advisory describes the observed activity and its response.
In the activity Binance observed, malicious applications and plugins—particularly Android and web apps—were common distribution routes. Binance also urged iOS users to stay alert. Its recommended checks include confirming apps and plugins are authentic and carefully checking the destination address before sending. Binance said it blacklisted suspicious addresses and notified affected users as countermeasures.
Checks to make before sending
- Use apps and plugins obtained through official channels, and be wary of unofficial or repackaged versions.
- After pasting a wallet address into a transfer, compare the destination shown in the transaction with the address you intended to use. Do not rely on what remains in the clipboard.
- Keep device security software current. Binance’s broader explainer recommends current antivirus software as a general precaution; it does not certify that a particular product will detect this malware. Binance’s clipper-malware explainer discusses these precautions.
What Cyble reported about the defense-conference lure
On September 13, 2024, Cyble Research and Intelligence Labs published an analysis of a conference-themed campaign ahead of the US-Taiwan Defense Industry Conference, scheduled for September 22–24 in the United States that year. Cyble said the lure suggested an effort to target people connected to the event. The reported delivery was a ZIP archive containing a Windows LNK shortcut disguised as a PDF registration form. Cyble’s technical analysis details the campaign.

These are reported elements of the campaign’s technical behavior; the analysis does not establish that conference systems or attendees were compromised. It also does not name a confirmed threat actor, so attribution remains open.

Practical response to an unexpected registration file
Because the reported lure used a ZIP attachment and a shortcut masquerading as a registration form, verify event materials through a known, independent contact or official event channel before opening unexpected files. This is a precaution based on the described delivery method, not a claim that Cyble tested that response.

| Story | Reported risk path | Useful check |
|---|---|---|
| Disney and Slack | Internal company data was reportedly stolen; the cited accounts do not establish Slack as the cause. | Review who can access sensitive communications, and consider account, device, and access controls alongside any platform decision. |
| Binance warning | Clipboard malware can substitute an attacker’s wallet address during a crypto transfer. | Verify the destination shown for each transfer before confirming it. |
| Conference-themed campaign | A ZIP archive reportedly delivered a malicious shortcut disguised as a registration form. | Independently verify unexpected event files before opening them. |
The conference campaign and Binance malware were separate reports, and neither was reported as connected to Disney’s breach.
