IKEA’s KVARNVEN is a two-sided memory-foam pillow designed for side and back sleepers who want a higher pillow. One side is memory foam; the other uses a laminated honeycomb-patterned fabric that IKEA describes as cooling. That wording is a product claim, not proof that the surface stays cool all night, and customer reactions to both support and cooling vary.
What is the IKEA KVARNVEN pillow?
KVARNVEN is an ergonomic pillow with two different surfaces: a cushioning memory-foam side and a honeycomb-patterned fabric side. IKEA says the fabric “regulates the temperature and enhances the cooling effect.” This describes IKEA’s intended design; no independent controlled test establishing sustained cooling performance is available.

BLISSBURY Stomach Sleeper Pillow, Thin Flat Memory Foam Pillow, 2.6 Inch | $39.99 | Buy on Amazon |
IKEA recommends the pillow for side and back sleepers who need a higher pillow. The US listing specifies a filling density of 2.7 lb/cu.ft.; IKEA Ireland lists 43 kg/cu.m. for its regional product. Those figures are not a measure of how high the pillow feels to an individual sleeper. IKEA US product listing IKEA Ireland product listing
Size and pillowcase fit
The IKEA US Queen listing measures 27 × 18 × 5 inches and says the pillow fits standard-size pillowcases. Dimensions differ by market: IKEA Ireland lists a 39 × 69 cm version. Check the dimensions on the listing for your country and the label on the item rather than assuming regional versions are interchangeable.

An IKEA community discussion raises the question of finding a pillowcase that fits and mentions a 42 × 54 cm version. That is an individual fit concern, not evidence that the US Queen pillow will not fit standard cases. If case fit matters, compare your pillow’s actual dimensions with the case before buying. Materials and care
IKEA lists polyurethane memory foam for the filling. On the US listing, the top fabric is 90% nylon and 10% elastane; the back and inner fabric are 100% recycled polyester, with polyester piping.
The cover can be machine-washed warm on a normal cycle and tumble-dried on low, according to the US listing. Do not wash the foam pillow itself. IKEA’s US care instructions also say not to bleach, tumble-dry, iron, or dry-clean the pillow. Follow the care tag included with the specific regional item, since instructions may vary. What customer ratings and comments suggest
When checked on October 7, 2026, IKEA US displayed a 4.3 out of 5 rating from 769 reviews, while IKEA Canada displayed 4.3 out of 5 from 733 reviews. These are changing, region-specific retailer-page snapshots, not independent test results or evidence of how every owner will experience the pillow.
Customer comments include praise for comfort, support, and cooling, alongside complaints that the pillow feels too flat or that its cool sensation does not last. These opposing reactions point to preference-sensitive questions—especially desired loft and expectations for a cooling surface—rather than a settled performance verdict. Who should consider the KVARNVEN?
The pillow is most relevant to side or back sleepers seeking a higher pillow who want to choose between a memory-foam surface and a textured fabric surface. Before deciding, consider:
Quick Recap
- Loft: IKEA positions it as a higher pillow, but customer feedback includes reports of it feeling too flat. Personal fit depends on your preferred height and sleep position.
- Cooling expectations: IKEA describes the honeycomb-patterned side as cooling; customer experiences vary, and sustained cooling is not independently established.
- Case fit: The US Queen listing says it fits standard-size cases, but check your regional model’s dimensions if you use a close-fitting case.
- Care: The cover is washable; the foam pillow itself is not.
- Local price: Verify the current listing in your market rather than relying on a price snapshot from another region or date.
