The IKEA EFTERSMAK reviewed by CHOICE is a 60 cm built-in wall oven, not the EFTERSMAK microwave. CHOICE lists it as a discontinued model at AUD $849 on its review page, and the detailed test scores are behind membership access. The public information is enough to check dimensions and installation requirements, but not enough to judge cooking performance. If you are considering one, confirm that it is still stocked and that it fits your cabinet opening before you go further.
Which EFTERSMAK this review covers
IKEA uses the EFTERSMAK name for more than one appliance. The wall oven is the product in CHOICE’s review, and IKEA’s UK manual for it lists model 604.118.81. IKEA also sells a separate EFTERSMAK microwave with its own manual, so a search for “EFTERSMAK” can return documents for either product. The microwave is covered only by its own documentation, such as the IKEA Greece product page for the EFTERSMAK microwave oven (90411771) and the IKEA UK microwave manual. Do not use its measurements or ratings for the oven.
IKEA also publishes manuals for other EFTERSMAK revisions. Before you apply any specification in this article, match the model number on the appliance’s rating plate, or on the box or invoice, against 604.118.81. Specifications and warranty terms can change between revisions and between markets.
What CHOICE’s public review establishes
CHOICE’s review page is published with Australian pricing and labels the product a “60cm wide wall oven.” It lists the following, which should be read as CHOICE’s figures for its review page rather than as a current quote or a universal market price:

The nine functions are fan-forced convection, top and bottom heat, pyrolytic self-cleaning, grill, bread/pizza, pastry, warming, quick preheat, and defrost. The buying guide also lists a child-safety lock, a digital display, touch controls, and preset cooking programs. The accessories are a wire shelf, a baking tray, and a grill tray.
IKEA’s appliance guide describes its convection setting this way: “Fan forced air convection spreads heat evenly and quickly so you can cook several dishes at once.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independently measured result. CHOICE’s public page does not confirm it.

Why the two sets of measurements disagree
CHOICE and IKEA measure the cavity differently, and the figures should not be mixed. CHOICE’s internal baking figure (485 mm wide, 335 mm high) is wider and shorter than the 480 mm × 361 mm cavity in IKEA’s manual. Use the cabinet cut-out and the manufacturer’s installation documents for fit decisions, and use the manual’s cavity figures when you are judging whether a specific tray or dish will fit.

Installation requirements
IKEA’s buying guide says this oven has no plug. It must be wired in by a qualified installer, so budget for an electrician or appliance installer, not a plug-in connection. The buying guide also states that the oven needs a supply matching the 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz rating in the UK manual. If you are buying an Australian unit, confirm the supply voltage and frequency with the installer, because the UK ratings may not match your local mains.

Checking fit before you buy
- Confirm the model. Read the rating plate on the appliance or the packaging and compare the model number with 604.118.81. If the number differs, look up the manual for that exact revision before you rely on any figure here.
- Measure the cabinet opening. Compare the height, width, and depth with the CHOICE cut-out of 580 × 560 × 550 mm (H × W × D). A 600 mm external width is not enough; the opening must meet the cut-out.
- Check depth separately. The claimed external depth is 560 mm, which is larger than the 550 mm cut-out depth. Confirm the clearances with the installation instructions for your exact model, because the sources reviewed for this article do not state them.
- Check the cavity against your tray and dish sizes. Use the manual’s cavity figures (480 mm wide, 361 mm high, 416 mm deep) for this purpose.
- Get an installer to confirm the wiring and the supply rating before purchase.
Functions to understand before you decide
The nine functions cover most day-to-day cooking, but two are worth a closer look. Pyrolytic self-cleaning is a high-temperature cleaning cycle, and it is listed in IKEA’s guide. Whether it matters to you depends on how often you clean the cavity and whether you want to avoid chemical oven cleaners. The sources reviewed here do not give the cycle’s duration, temperature, or energy use, so compare those with your installer or the manufacturer before relying on them. Quick preheat and defrost are listed as functions, but the sources do not show how they perform in use.

CHOICE marks this model as discontinued. That affects three things: stock, service, and spare parts. IKEA’s manual directs owners to authorised service and to the rating plate for identifying the appliance, but the sources reviewed here do not show whether spare parts or replacement accessories remain on sale. Before you buy, confirm stock with IKEA, ask whether a discontinued model can still be serviced in your country, and check that any replacement shelf or tray matches the exact model.

Comparing it with other 60 cm ovens
Because CHOICE’s detailed results are behind membership access, a performance comparison with other ovens cannot be made from the public sources. If you compare this model with alternatives, focus on the points that are published:
- Installed fit: cut-out and depth against your cabinet
- Functions and whether you need pyrolytic cleaning
- Usable capacity and internal dimensions
- Electrical requirements and installation cost
- Warranty length and local service availability
