Jamia Senior Secondary School, part of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), has partnered with IIT Madras’s School Connect programme to offer students in Classes 9–12 eight-week online certificate courses. The courses cover a range of academic fields, giving students a chance to explore interests before later choices about school subjects, undergraduate study or career directions. They are exploratory courses, not degrees or an admissions pathway.

What does the IIT Madras–Jamia partnership offer?

The collaboration connects Jamia Senior Secondary School students with IIT Madras School Connect courses. According to The Indian Express report, updated 6 October 2026, the courses are online, run for eight weeks and are intended for students in Classes 9–12.

IIT Madras’s broader School Connect format combines pre-recorded lectures, live sessions, assignments and computer-based assessments. Its 7 September 2026 announcement says the October 2026 cohort covers Classes IX–XII and offers courses in English and Hindi. The announcement describes the overall programme, not a Jamia-specific course schedule.

Which subjects can students explore?

The news report names subject areas across mathematics and science, engineering, computing, humanities and management. Examples include:

  • Data science and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and game technology
  • Mathematics and computing, electronic systems, aerospace and chemical engineering
  • Architecture and design, product design, and biological systems
  • Economics and finance, law, and digital humanities
  • Ecology and forensic sciences

This is a selection of areas mentioned in the report, not a confirmed Jamia course roster. The report and IIT Madras’s general programme information do not identify the exact courses Jamia students can select.

Who is the programme for, and how can it help?

The reported audience is Jamia Senior Secondary School students in Classes 9–12. JMI’s explanation, as quoted in the report, frames the opportunity differently by stage:

  • Classes 9 and 10: explore subjects and interests before choosing a stream for Class 11.
  • Classes 11 and 12: learn about fields that may inform undergraduate-study and career exploration.

Taking a course does not decide a student’s stream, secure admission to an IIT or other university, or guarantee a career outcome. Its value is the opportunity to encounter a subject and consider whether it merits further study.

What does the certificate require?

Students who complete the prescribed requirements receive an e-certificate from IIT Madras’s Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE). The report says completion includes assignments and examinations; the programme announcement describes computer-based assessments as part of the broader learning format. The available information does not specify Jamia’s course-by-course assessment rules.

Is there a fee?

IIT Madras’s general School Partnership page describes the partnership as non-commercial and says students pay ₹500 for a certification course. It also outlines general arrangements such as appointing a school single point of contact, submitting an expression of interest, collecting and remitting fees in bulk, and monitoring progress through a dashboard. These are programme-wide instructions; the news report does not confirm Jamia’s fee collection or operational arrangements.

What is known about School Connect overall?

IIT Madras said in its 7 September 2026 announcement that the broader programme had partnered with more than 4,900 schools, including more than 60 outside India, and benefited over 1.75 lakh students. Those figures describe School Connect as a whole, not Jamia’s participation.

In the same announcement, Prof. Andrew Thangaraj, Chair of CODE at IIT Madras, said: “School Connect was built to give students an opportunity to explore, experience and understand different fields before making important academic choices.” This is a description of the programme’s overall purpose, not a statement about Jamia’s specific implementation.

What has not been confirmed about Jamia’s participation?

The available report and official programme pages do not state when the agreement was signed or how long it runs, how many Jamia students will enroll, who will coordinate the partnership, which exact courses Jamia will offer, or whether Jamia will use the general ₹500 fee-collection process. Students should rely on information issued by their school for those details.
