IdeaPanner is a Chrome extension I built to make browsing TrustMRR listings less repetitive: it lets you record which startups you have passed, want to revisit, or want to investigate, then organize notes and comparisons around those choices. My original article described TrustMRR as listing “11,000+ startups with verified revenue” at the time; that was my time-bound description, not a confirmed current total or an independent assessment of TrustMRR’s verification process.
Why I built IdeaPanner
I used TrustMRR to look for startup ideas and found myself losing time revisiting the same listings and rereading the same details. The challenge was not simply finding businesses. I needed a way to remember what I had already reviewed, understand how each business made money, and move past categories that were irrelevant to me.
IdeaPanner is a workflow aid for browsing TrustMRR, not a separate startup database. Its purpose is to keep decisions and research organized while you explore listings.

How the listing workflow works
Record a decision
For a listing, you can choose Pass, Later, or Dig in and add a note. Pass is for a business you do not want to keep in your active review flow; Later and Dig in preserve listings for further attention. The same controls are described as available on startup detail pages. Passed listings can be hidden on later visits.
Keep selected listings together
The saved list brings Later and Dig in selections together with their revenue information, notes, and explanations. This gives you a place to return to the businesses you chose to keep, rather than relying on memory or reopening cards one by one.
Remember revenue when you made the decision
IdeaPanner records the MRR shown when you mark a startup. That timestamped snapshot can help distinguish what you saw during an earlier review from the revenue shown when you return. It should be treated as a record of the displayed figure at the time of your decision, not a guarantee that the underlying business data is independently validated or unchanged.

What Explain and Compare are meant to do
Explain a business in plain language
The Explain feature is described as reading a startup’s public TrustMRR profile and producing an analysis of its market, customer problem, monetization, acquisition channels, solo-founder feasibility, and one possible starting point for building something similar. It is an aid for interpreting a listing, not proof that the analysis is correct or that a business idea will succeed.
Compare listings on the same dimensions
Compare places selected businesses side by side across MRR, pricing, customer channels, verdict, and starting point. Those fields are intended to make differences easier to inspect than a sequence of separate listing pages. The source account does not establish the accuracy of the generated explanations or the current availability of this feature.
Filters and category controls
You can hide selected categories and save named TrustMRR filters for later restoration. This is useful when a category is consistently outside your interests or when you want to preserve a particular browsing setup. The maker’s article does not specify which categories are supported or whether the current extension release still offers these controls.
Data handling and privacy, as I disclosed it
My article says that marks, notes, and filters are stored in the browser, with no account or analytics. That is my disclosure as the maker; it is not an independent privacy audit.

- Your own API key: Requests are sent directly from the browser to the OpenAI-compatible API you choose, according to the maker’s account.
These routes differ in where requests go. Review the extension’s current privacy disclosures and the chosen provider’s terms before sending data, and do not assume a feature’s current implementation is identical to the description above.

Availability and compatibility are not confirmed here
When I wrote about IdeaPanner, I said it was free on the Chrome Web Store and noted that the version with Explain, Compare, and category hiding was still under store review. Readers might therefore have received a simpler first version. That status was specific to the time of writing; the available source does not establish today’s store listing, release, compatibility, or feature set.
I also described implementation difficulties involving TrustMRR’s React rendering and duplicate mobile and desktop layouts. Those were my development observations, not independently reproduced technical findings, and they do not establish whether the extension works with the current TrustMRR site.
Quick Recap
What to verify before relying on it
- Check the live Chrome Web Store listing for its current availability, permissions, and version.
- Confirm that the features you need—especially Explain, Compare, and category hiding—are present in the installed release.
- Review the current data-handling details before using AI features, particularly if you plan to use the free trial.
- Treat the TrustMRR listing count and revenue information as claims shown by the relevant source, not as independently established facts about today’s database.
