Claude’s documented way to search your past Claude conversations can surface old clues about online accounts—but it is not documented as searching your email inbox or identifying every website tied to an email address. The account-finding result in this title is a personal report, and without the original prompt, the material Claude could inspect, and confirmation of the matches, the method and result cannot be described as verified fact.
What Claude can—and cannot—search
Anthropic documents past-chat search for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users on web, desktop, and mobile. It can search conversations outside projects as well as conversations in an individual project. The Claude Help Center says these searches use Retrieval-Augmented Generation and appear as tool calls during conversations. This can help recover a clue you previously discussed with Claude; it does not establish that Claude searched an external email inbox or mapped an email address to accounts on third-party websites. How to find old accounts you forgot about
Use records you can access to build a list of candidates, then verify each candidate directly with the service. Claude may help organize clues from information you intentionally provide, but a name or mention in a chat is not proof that an account exists or is still active.

These are sources to inspect yourself, not capabilities established for Claude by the documentation cited here.
- Ask Claude to search eligible past chats. If your plan and organization settings support the feature, ask for references to services you may have signed up for, projects, subscriptions, or account setup. Treat the response as a set of leads to check, not a definitive account inventory.
- Confirm each lead at the service. Visit the service’s official site or app and use its account-recovery process. A message, saved password, or old chat can point to a likely account, but the service’s own recovery flow is the safer way to establish whether it is yours.
- Record only what you need. Keep a private list of service names, whether access was recovered, and any action you took. Do not include passwords, recovery codes, or private login credentials in a Claude conversation.
Can Claude search my email for old accounts?
The official Claude documentation cited here establishes search of past Claude conversations, not external email search. It therefore does not support saying Claude searched an inbox or found accounts registered with an address. If you use another tool or connector that can access email, check its permissions and scope before granting access, and describe precisely what it was allowed to search. The available facts do not establish that such a connector was used for the account discoveries in this article.

Can Claude search my old chats?
Yes, for eligible plans and where the feature is available under the user’s organization settings. Anthropic says users can turn off “Search and reference chats” and manage memory; controls and availability may vary by plan and organization. Incognito chats are not saved in Claude chat history and are not included in later past-chat searches. See the past-chat search guidance and Claude personalization guidance for the relevant controls.
Protect sensitive information while checking accounts
Anthropic advises users to handle sensitive information thoughtfully, including financial information, health records, passwords, private login credentials, and confidential documents. Do not paste passwords, one-time codes, recovery codes, or full payment details into an AI chat. When asking Claude to organize clues, share only the minimum information needed and remove identifying or sensitive details that are not relevant.

What happens if you delete a Claude chat?
Anthropic says a deleted consumer conversation disappears from chat history immediately and is deleted from backend systems within 30 days. Its guidance also describes additional retention conditions, including conversations used for model improvement and those flagged by safety systems, so deletion from the visible history should not be treated as an assurance that every related copy vanishes instantly.
