One Marie Claire editor reported that her face looked less puffy after using Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Super Anti-Aging Face Mask Rich with its Gua Sha tool—but that is a personal observation, not proof the mask treats puffiness. The product is a rich, weekly cream-to-oil treatment; the brand’s published elasticity claim measures a different outcome. Here’s what the routine involves, what the evidence does and doesn’t establish, and when facial swelling needs more than skincare.
What the mask is—and what it claims to do
Dr. Barbara Sturm describes Super Anti-Aging Face Mask Rich as an intensive cream-to-oil mask for weekly use. The formula includes squalane, jojoba and other plant oils, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate, shea butter, and extracts such as purslane, barley and cherimoya. The brand positions these ingredients around moisturizing, plumping, radiance and smoother-looking skin; those descriptions are cosmetic claims, not proof that each ingredient produces a particular clinical result. The brand reports that an instrumental test on 20 volunteers found 84% improved elasticity after five uses. The official pages reviewed do not state when the test took place or provide its full protocol, a control group, or an independent publication, so the result cannot be independently assessed from those pages. It is an elasticity claim—not evidence that the mask reduces morning puffiness. The brand also presents consumer-study notes involving 21 volunteers after one or five applications for other claims, but the available page text does not provide enough methodological detail to evaluate those findings independently. The brand’s collection page lists its claims and study notes.

Does it reduce morning puffiness?
Marie Claire’s October 1, 2026 review describes one editor seeing less puffiness after using the mask and Gua Sha in a roughly 20-minute routine. That is an individual report; it does not establish that the mask itself reduces swelling or that other users should expect the same result. The reported visible change may reflect the massage, the routine, or the editor’s experience, but the review does not isolate those factors. Read the first-person review.
#1 Best Overall
- Deeply hydrating and soothing
- 50ml
- Purslane helps calm the skin and reduces visible signs of irritation
- Calming Aloe Vera and Chamomile infuse your skin with moisture
- Kaolin (China Clay) leaves the complexion silky soft and supple
That distinction matters: a temporary change in how puffy a face looks is not the same endpoint as measured skin elasticity, and neither should be presented as a medical treatment. For mild puffiness on waking that settles within a few hours, Cleveland Clinic says normal overnight fluid retention can be one explanation. Facial swelling has many possible causes, so a cosmetic routine is not a substitute for assessing persistent or concerning symptoms. Cleveland Clinic explains facial swelling and when to seek care.
How to use the mask and included Gua Sha
The brand’s directions call for once-weekly use after cleansing. The 50 ml size includes a hypoallergenic stainless-steel Gua Sha. Follow the product directions rather than pressing hard or treating the tool as a medical device:

- With gentle pressure, use the included Gua Sha in strokes following lymphatic flow toward the ears or collarbone.
- Pat in any excess oil and clean the tool after use.
Cleveland Clinic notes that lymphatic drainage massage may reduce puffiness, but results may not be immediate and it may not offer meaningful results for people without lymphedema. Read Cleveland Clinic’s guidance on lymphatic drainage massage.
When facial swelling needs medical attention
Do not rely on a mask or massage for sudden swelling, severe pain, signs of infection, trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling that persists or worsens. Cleveland Clinic advises medical evaluation for concerning facial swelling; breathing or swallowing difficulty warrants urgent care. Its facial-swelling guidance was last medically reviewed in August 2024, and its lymphatic-drainage guidance in September 2024.
