The Philips OneChef made it easier to set up certain meals and step away while they cooked, but a week of use did not make it a full gas-stove replacement. In an HT Tech review published October 6, 2026, the reviewer found it useful for varied cooking with less active supervision, while preferring a gas flame for quick heat changes, tempering and cooking multiple dishes at once.
What the week-long test involved
The reviewer used the Philips OneChef NX5300/00 for one meal a day over a week, cooking chicken steak, fish, paneer tikka, idli, steamed rice, dal, aloo/sabzi and bread rolls. These are the reviewer’s reported results, not an independent laboratory comparison or a claim that every dish will turn out the same in every kitchen.
The surprise was less that one appliance could handle different kinds of food than that its value depended on the kind of cooking. When a meal could be set up and left to cook with less attention, OneChef was convenient. When cooking called for immediate judgment and adjustment, the gas stove remained easier.

Cooking that can run after setup
The reviewer found OneChef most useful when they could choose a mode and settings, start cooking, and give the task less active supervision. In the reviewer’s test, the stove called for more monitoring. That distinction may matter more than the appliance’s headline function count: a device is helpful when its cooking routine fits the meal and the cook wants to attend to something else.

Different cooking methods in one device
Philips describes the NX5300/00 as a 33-in-1 smart cooking device with a 6 L capacity. Its listed functions include air fry, stir fry, steam, boil, curry, bake and roast. That gives it methods a gas burner by itself does not provide, and the reviewer said using OneChef for several cooking methods reduced the need to switch among separate appliances for those tasks.
Philips also says the appliance supports dishes such as biryani, curries, dal, rice, idli, dhokla, momos, stir-fries and steamed dishes. The manufacturer describes its dish-based programs as automatic, while allowing users to adjust settings. Its claim that AmbiHeat sensors adjust heat for more even cooking is Philips’ product description, not a result independently established by the week-long review.

What a gas stove still did better
Fast, instinctive heat changes
A gas flame responds directly when the cook turns it up or down. The reviewer preferred that immediate control for spontaneous cooking and quick sautéing or tempering. OneChef asks the cook to select modes and settings instead of making the familiar, continuous adjustments of a stove flame; learning those controls is part of using it.

Several dishes at once
The reviewer found a gas stove more convenient for simultaneous multi-dish meals. This is a meaningful trade-off for households that routinely use several burners or cook elaborate meals: OneChef can cover varied methods, but the review did not find it a more convenient way to manage multiple dishes in parallel.

Does Philips OneChef replace a gas stove?
Not on the evidence of this one-week test. The reviewer’s conclusion was, “So no, the Philips OneChef didn’t replace my gas stove.” The device was a useful complement for some cooking tasks, especially those that could be configured and left with less supervision; it did not displace the stove’s role in quick flame adjustments, tempering or parallel cooking.
Whether it earns a place in your kitchen depends on your routine, not on using all 33 functions. The reviewer did not try every function and advised buyers to focus on the ones they expect to use regularly. Philips lists the India-market NX5300/00 at ₹19,995 on its official product page, accessed October 7, 2026; that listing is a time-sensitive price, so check the current amount and availability before buying.
