Replacing a streaming stick with a mini PC can change the home screen you see when you turn on your TV. It does not, by itself, remove advertising inside streaming services or guarantee that every service will play at the same quality. The exact computer, operating system, services and controls used in this setup are not identified, so those details—and the precise ads that disappeared—can’t be pinned down here.
What changes when a mini PC replaces a streaming stick?
A streaming stick is a dedicated device with its own interface and model-specific capabilities. A mini PC is a general-purpose computer that can connect directly to a television and run media software. Kodi’s Windows documentation describes support for Windows and hardware designed to connect directly to a TV, making a PC a viable media-center option.
In this kind of swap, the most immediate difference is the software that supplies the screen you navigate before opening a show. Removing a stick means its home screen is no longer the one you see. A different interface may make the TV feel less like a storefront, but that does not establish that every ad has gone away: advertising can also appear in the TV’s own menus or within a streaming service.

Will a mini PC get rid of TV ads?
It can remove the streaming stick’s interface from the viewing path if you stop using that stick. Whether that eliminates the promotions you disliked depends on where they appeared. Replacing one device does not establish that ads built into the television’s own interface or served within a streaming app have been removed.
An open-source project called Minus describes an HDMI accessory that analyzes video output from a streaming device to detect and cover ads. That is a separate approach, not evidence that a mini PC blocks TV-menu promotions or advertising inside paid streaming services. Can you still watch streaming services on a mini PC?
Possibly, but compatibility must be checked service by service and computer by computer. What to check before making the switch
- Identify the ads you want to avoid. Note whether they appear on the stick’s home screen, the TV’s own interface or inside a streaming service. A device swap only changes the software you stop using.
