After two weeks with the Sonos Ace Ultra, TechRadar reviewer Harry Padoan says five changes shifted his view of the headphones: more detailed EQ controls, stronger noise cancellation in his listening, deeper Sonos integration, longer battery life, and a new driver design. His response was personal rather than a lab verdict: “I’ve spent two weeks testing them, and to tell the truth, they really exceeded my expectations.”
Here is what changed compared with the original Sonos Ace, and what those upgrades may mean if you are choosing your first premium wireless headphones or considering a step up.
1. More EQ control makes it easier to shape the sound
The original Sonos Ace offered two-band bass and treble adjustment. The Ace Ultra expands that to an eight-band equalizer and adaptive EQ; Padoan also mentions a three-band EQ option. That gives listeners more ways to adjust the sound than the original model’s basic tone controls.

More adjustment is not the same as better sound for everyone. EQ preferences vary, so the practical benefit is flexibility: you can shape the presentation to your taste rather than rely only on bass and treble changes.

- High-resolution wireless audio with ultra-low latency.
- Up to 2x more Active Noise Cancellation than Sonos Ace.
- Up to 35 hours of battery with ANC on.

2. The ANC upgrade made a difference in Padoan’s everyday settings
The Ace Ultra has ten microphones, compared with eight on the original Ace, according to Padoan’s TechRadar review. During his use, he found that the headphones suppressed office typing, traffic, construction noise, transit engine rumble, and nearby conversation.
Those are listening observations, not measured attenuation results. They describe what one reviewer experienced in particular settings; they do not establish how much noise the headphones block for every listener or environment.

3. Headphone Linking adds another way to use Sonos audio
The Ace Ultra adds Headphone Linking, which transfers audio between the headphones and compatible Sonos speakers over Wi-Fi. That gives Sonos households another way to move listening between headphones and speakers.

4. Battery life is longer, and the battery is replaceable
TechRadar reports up to 35 hours of playback with ANC on for the Ace Ultra, compared with 30 hours for the original Ace. The review also says a three-minute charge provides three hours of playback. These are product details as reported in the review, not independently verified measurements here.
The Ace Ultra’s battery is user-replaceable, but the process requires specialist kit. The review does not identify the kit, a part number, or where to obtain it, so the replacement feature should not be mistaken for a confirmed do-it-yourself procedure with readily available parts.

5. New drivers underpin Padoan’s sound improvements

What the five upgrades mean if you are considering the Ace Ultra
The changes most likely to matter depend on how you listen. If you already use compatible Sonos speakers or a soundbar, Headphone Linking and TV Audio Swap are the clearest ecosystem additions. If you value adjusting your sound, the wider EQ gives you more control. And if you often listen away from a charger, the reported battery-life increase may be useful.
For the sound and ANC changes, Padoan’s review offers a firsthand account rather than a universal result. Its September 2026 article gives $449 as price context, not as a verified current price. Check current price and availability before buying.
