A remote-jobs page showed just 30 listings from the previous 30 days, even though its operator says thousands more had been collected but were not appearing. The problem was not a sudden change in the job market: the page was reading only one of three feeds. Fixing the mismatch meant more than connecting the feeds. The listings also needed deduplication, better skill tagging, crawlable page content, and safeguards against presenting thin data as a trend.
Why did the page show only 30 jobs?
In a DEV Community account, Payanai, who describes running the job-trends site Nokku.ai, says the page displayed 30 jobs from the previous 30 days. The collection pipeline drew listings from RemoteOK, JSearch, and Arbeitnow, but the page read from only one of those sources. The other listings had been collected and stored, but were not reaching the display.
After merging the feeds and cleaning records, Payanai reported approximately 200 live remote jobs from 150 companies. These are the operator’s project figures, not a count of the remote-job market, and they have not been independently audited. The article’s search result shows a Sep. 29 date but not a publication year, so the year cannot be established from that result. Read the DEV Community account.

What changed in the job pipeline?
Collecting more feeds increased coverage, but it also meant reconciling records that could refer to the same role or fail basic quality checks. Payanai says the revised process deduplicated by normalized company and position, preferring the copy with pay information when available. It also rejected titles suggesting hybrid, on-site, or in-office work and discarded links that were not HTTP(S).

Those rules are practical filters, not guarantees. Similar roles can have different titles, company names can be inconsistent, and a title alone may not conclusively establish whether a job is remote. An aggregator therefore needs to treat merged results as records to validate, rather than assuming every collected row is a distinct, genuinely remote opening.
Why did the skill counts look wrong?
A tagger based on substring matching can make a plausible-looking count badly misleading. In the author’s example, matching “Go” also matched “good,” “AI” matched “email,” and “Java” matched “JavaScript.” Before correction, 102 of 201 listings were tagged Go; afterward, 11 were. Those are counts from this project, not measures of employer demand for Go developers.

Payanai says older records were handled by recalculating skills at read time from job titles and job-board tags instead of trusting stale stored tags. When an aggregate looks surprising, the useful diagnostic is to inspect the underlying rows and matching rules: a dramatic number may reveal a bug in classification, not a market shift.

The earlier page loaded jobs in the browser, leaving a spinner in the initial HTML, according to Payanai. The revised /jobs page rendered listings on the server, refreshed every 30 minutes, and included the first 25 listings in its HTML. Filters were reflected in the URL, while the canonical URL continued to point to /jobs.

This describes the implementation, not a verified search-ranking result. Rendering useful content in the initial HTML can make the page’s listings available without waiting for client-side loading, but the account supplies no independent crawl test or evidence that rankings improved.
When should a generated jobs page be indexed?
The operator created more specific pages for roles and skills, including /jobs/remote-python-jobs, /jobs/remote-software-engineer-jobs, and /jobs/remote-jobs-with-salary. The rationale was to serve narrower searches such as “remote Python jobs” or “remote data analyst jobs,” rather than relying only on a broad remote-jobs page. These examples explain the page design; they do not establish measured search demand.

Payanai says pages with fewer than five listings were left accessible to visitors but set to noindex and omitted from the sitemap. Their introductions were based on the page’s data instead of swapping a role name into identical keyword-focused copy. Five was this operator’s chosen floor, not a universal indexing rule, and the account does not establish search performance for the generated pages.

How should an aggregator describe thin data?
A statistic can sound more conclusive than its sample warrants. Payanai says an early headline reported median listed pay based on only three listings. The operator replaced it with the more literal “With pay listed: 3,” which tells readers how many records support the figure rather than suggesting a robust salary benchmark.

The “New” label also needed tighter boundaries: a two-day window caused it to apply to 13 of the first rows, so the author narrowed it to listings from the newest day. Both choices make the interface more faithful to what the underlying data can actually support.
As Payanai put the broader lesson, “Treat surprising numbers as bugs until proven otherwise.” In an aggregator, that means checking the path from collected data to displayed totals, validating classification logic, and making small samples visible instead of dressing them up as market-wide conclusions.
