EchoCadence is a vocabulary app built around words you add yourself: learn a new card, then revisit it when its review schedule says it is due. Builder Divya describes the scheduler as SM-2 style, with each card’s review history and difficulty ratings influencing its next interval. That explains how the app is intended to work; it does not establish that it improves retention.

What EchoCadence is designed to do

EchoCadence is for learners who encounter words they want to remember—whether they are building active vocabulary in a language they already speak or collecting words while learning another language. Divya describes the app as a place to add those words, review them, and let the schedule determine when a card returns.

The workflow separates two activities: adding and learning new cards, and reviewing cards that are due. That distinction is useful for a personal vocabulary collection: new entries do not have to be mixed with the queue of words awaiting review.

How the Learn and Revise workflow works

Learn: add and test a word

Divya says users can sign up with Google or email and work with up to seven languages at once. They can use built-in categories or make their own categories and fields to organize vocabulary. In Learn, the learner flips a card, checks the answer, and rates how difficult it felt.

Revise: return to cards when due

In Revise, cards reappear according to their prior review history. The builder describes the scheduling as SM-2 style: a card retains state such as an ease factor and review interval, and the learner’s rating affects the next interval. In the described design, difficult cards return sooner, while easier cards can move to longer intervals.

Divya also says the app tracks weekly review statistics, difficulty, next review dates, and first-attempt performance. These are features described in the project write-up, not independently verified details of the live service. The app is linked at echocadence.vercel.app; the write-up does not establish its current availability or current language support.

What the builder says is behind the app

Divya says EchoCadence was built solo during MLH Global Hack Week: Data. Tiger Cloud provided a managed PostgreSQL environment with TimescaleDB capabilities, and Auth0 handled authentication and session persistence.

For review history, the project write-up describes storing individual card reviews—with timestamps and review-related attributes—in a card_reviews table converted to a TimescaleDB hypertable. It also describes a daily continuous aggregate, daily_review_stats, that groups review counts, correct and incorrect responses, average response time, and average rating into daily user summaries.

The rationale was to use time-series storage for data that naturally accumulates over time. Divya put it this way: “I didn’t have to force my application into a time-series database. I found a part of the application that was already time-series data.” This is the builder’s architecture account, not an independent architecture or security audit.

What is—and is not—established about learning results

The project write-up explains a review workflow and the scheduler’s intended behavior, but publishes no measured retention rate, learning outcome, or comparison with other vocabulary apps. An SM-2-style schedule is an implementation description; it should not be read as evidence that EchoCadence has been shown to make words stick better.

Who may find the approach useful

  • People who recognize a word but cannot recall it: adding encountered words creates a personal review set rather than relying on memory to find them again.
  • Language learners collecting new vocabulary: the Learn/Revise separation provides a described path from entering a word to reviewing it later.
  • Learners strengthening an existing language: custom categories and fields are intended to help organize words around a learner’s own needs.

Whether this setup fits a particular learner depends on the live app’s availability and actual behavior, neither of which the project write-up independently tests.
