With AI assistance, I got the basic tarot flow working in about two hours: ask a question, draw cards, and read an AI-generated interpretation. That was a demo, not a finished product. Turning it into Mystic Journey meant solving less visible problems—keeping saved progress consistent across devices, preserving the meaning of old answers as content changed, and deciding what should happen when a paid reading failed halfway through.
I’m On Pounch Man, Mystic Journey’s builder. This is my account of the work and the questions it raised, not evidence that a two-hour build time is typical or that the product has proven retention gains.
What did the two-hour demo actually do?
The first version was a page with a deck, a card-flipping animation, and an AI-generated reading. It demonstrated the central interaction, but it did not answer what would make someone return. A general-purpose AI can already explain tarot cards, so animation alone was not a durable reason to use the product again.
That distinction changed the task. A prototype can make one interaction feel complete; a product has to account for what happens before and after that interaction, including saved history, failures, and future visits.

How did Mystic Journey change beyond a one-off reading?
I expanded the experience around repeatable rituals and guided reflection. Mystic Journey now includes a mood-based daily card and reflection prompt, a Journey timeline, and an optional weekly companion board. These features are product hypotheses, not measured proof that people return more often.
Daily card and guided themes
The daily card pairs a mood-based draw with a reflection prompt. Guided explorations are organized into six themes—space, boundaries, change, confidence, connection, and direction—with five short chapters in each. People can add personal notes as they go.
Journey timeline and companion board
The Journey timeline collects completed rituals, explorations, and saved readings. The weekly companion board is optional and shows names, avatars, and activity points rather than private reflections. I still want user feedback on whether that shared activity feels supportive rather than distracting.

Once a daily card connects to a reflection, history, or reward, it is no longer just temporary page state. It becomes account data that should be available on both a phone and a laptop. Saving that state reliably is more complicated than disabling a button after someone taps it: retries, a second browser tab, or another device can still send duplicate or out-of-date requests.

- Historic Classic - This beginner tarot deck is based on the classic Waite Tarot, originally illustrated by Pamela Coleman Smith under the direction of Arthur Edward White in 1910. This deck uses symbolism and imagery to offer self-knowledge and self-enlightenment, providing individuals with insight and understanding into their lives.
- Tarot Learning Tool - Our beginner tarot deck with meanings on them includes the meanings of the cards in both upright and reversed positions, making them great for beginners to learn and remember interpretations. The cards also feature zodiac, elemental names and symbols, numerology, and yes/no/maybe, offering reference information for tarot readers to enhance their understanding and practice of the art of tarot.
- Superior Quality - The tarot decks with guidebook are durable and made of 350GSM paper, able to withstand frequent use without losing color or shedding paper. At 4.72" x 2.75" in size, they are easy to shuffle and comfortable to hold. The cards' content has undergone multiple professional reviews to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Visually Appealing - The minimalist design of KLEDERY tarot for beginners features a simple black background, allowing readers to focus on its symbolism without distracting the intricate design. The edges are decorated with delicate, elegant lines for added sophistication.
- Included Items - The tarot cards for beginners with meanings on them contains 78 cards, with each card is printed with a wealth of reference information. The accompanying color guidebook offers helpful tips and interpretations for beginners and experts alike. The flocked storage bag protects the cards from negative energy, ensuring optimal condition.
My save flow includes a revision with each request. If a request is based on stale progress, the server returns a conflict; the interface preserves the person’s draft and offers a way to reload the saved version. Identical retries of an already committed request return the existing result instead of creating it again. These safeguards address common conflicts, but they do not make every possible sync problem disappear.
Can I change a guided exercise without changing saved answers?
Yes—but only if the product keeps track of which version of the exercise gave those answers their meaning. Imagine a chapter option numbered “1” that originally says “Take time to reflect privately.” If I later change it to “Talk to someone you trust,” a stored answer of 1 now appears to say something different.
Mystic Journey retains the content version with which an exploration began. The live chapter and saved recap use consistent branch logic so that a person’s earlier choice continues to be interpreted against the wording they saw. Once content determines the meaning of stored answers, editing that content is also a data-compatibility decision.

What happens when an AI reading is delayed or stops halfway through?
Deep readings use server-sent events, so output can arrive in pieces rather than as one finished response. That creates more outcomes than a simple success-or-failure switch: a response may be partial, generation may time out, or a person may close the page before the result is complete. A proxy that buffers responses can also hide streaming output even when the server is sending it.

My API has a server timeout and attempts to cancel upstream model work if the client disconnects early. Only complete successful results go into the result cache. If a paid generation fails after in-app credits have been deducted, the error path restores those credits and offers a local interpretation. Weekly reflections have a model-call budget and a local fallback as well.
Restoring in-app credits is not the same as refunding a payment through a payment provider. There is also an important recovery gap: if the process crashes after deducting credits but before it can handle the error, a catch block in that process cannot repair the account. Durable job state and reconciliation are still needed to recover that kind of interruption reliably.
How did I limit payment, security, and privacy risks?
The model generates text; it does not decide account permissions, payment status, credit balances, or database actions. That separation limits what generated output can control, but it does not eliminate prompt injection. I treat model output as untrusted when it is rendered in the interface.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAccount and request controls
The service uses request rate limits, body-size limits, and account and credit checks before paid generation. Passwords are stored as salted hashes, and the database stores hashes of session tokens. Cookies use HttpOnly and SameSite settings, with Secure enabled in production. Verification codes expire and have attempt limits.

These are basic controls, not a guarantee that the service is secure. IP-based rate limits have limitations, and input and output handling still need review.
Payment confirmation and recovery
Payment status is confirmed with the provider, webhook signatures are checked, and order-status requests verify ownership. Crediting an order should be idempotent across both webhook delivery and polling confirmation, so the same payment cannot grant credits twice. Those checks help prevent duplicate or unverified crediting; they do not replace durable recovery for a crash during generation.
Reflection privacy
Analytics can record that a reflection was saved without collecting the reflection text. The feedback form also does not automatically attach journal entries. That separation matters because reflections can be personal even when a product needs basic usage information.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →What does the technology stack solve—and what does it leave to manage?
I use Nuxt 3 for a statically generated frontend, a separate Fastify API, SQLite, DeepSeek for generated readings, and Nginx to route API requests. I chose a stack I can deploy and troubleshoot at Mystic Journey’s current scale. That choice is about what is manageable for this project, not a claim that the stack is the right one for every product.
Best Value
Static generation does not automatically make a mobile experience fast. Images, animation, authentication checks, and API latency still affect what a person sees. The Journey timeline is paginated, its details load on demand, and uploaded avatars are cropped and converted to WebP in the browser.
The interface supports eight languages, but that does not mean every part of the experience is equally localized. Card data is primarily in English and Chinese, with English fallback elsewhere. Localizing navigation and controls is a different task from translating the content people interpret.
How do I know whether people will use it again?
I shared Mystic Journey on Solo, 出海栈, 小众软件, and Indie Hackers. Those posts did not yet tell me whether any channel reliably brings users back. Interest in a technical build story and interest in using a tarot product are different signals.
The behaviors I want to understand are whether visitors complete a first ritual, continue to another exploration chapter, and return after a few days. A well-read technical post doesn’t prove demand. The product changes give people more reasons to return, but whether those reasons work has to be learned from what users actually do.
