A fuel supply truck leaked fuel onto the Capital Beltway after a crash near Exit 33 in Montgomery County on Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026. Maryland State Police reported no injuries, and all lanes reopened shortly before 6 a.m.
What happened near Exit 33
DC News Now reported two separate crashes on the outer loop of I-495: one involving two vehicles and another involving a tractor-trailer and a vehicle. MCFRS spokesman Pete Piringer identified the truck as a fuel supply truck and said some fuel leaked onto the highway. The report does not establish whether the crashes were connected or what sequence of events led to them.
DC News Now’s May 13 report, republished by AOL, does not identify a cause for either crash.

Traffic and lane status
DC News Now reported that traffic came to a standstill and backed up more than two miles. The report did not specify how the queue length was measured. Maryland State Police told the outlet that no injuries were reported and that all lanes reopened shortly before 6 a.m.
