The Husqvarna Automower 305E NERA is a capable-featured robotic mower for lawns up to 900 m² in systematic mowing mode, or 600 m² in irregular mode, according to Husqvarna. It can use EPOS virtual boundaries or conventional boundary wire. Whether it is worth buying depends chiefly on your lawn’s shape, slope and satellite-signal conditions—and, for a wire-free setup, Wi-Fi coverage across the entire work area.
Is the Husqvarna Automower 305E NERA worth it?
It is worth considering if you want app-managed mowing zones and the option of a wire-free installation, and your lawn fits the model’s area and slope limits. Husqvarna’s UK listing showed £1,949 including VAT for article number 970 81 96-03 when accessed in 2026; that is a market- and date-specific price, not a guaranteed current price. This is a feature and suitability assessment based on manufacturer information, not a hands-on test. Husqvarna describes EdgeCut as reducing follow-up trimming, but there are no independent measurements here of edge finish, cut quality, noise, reliability, setup time or long-term maintenance. Treat those outcomes as unverified rather than assumed benefits.

Husqvarna gives different maximum working-area ratings depending on the chosen mowing mode. The figures below are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results. Husqvarna UK product page.

Use the rating as a starting point, not a guarantee that every lawn of that size is suitable. Consider narrow passages, trees, buildings and the amount of open sky, as well as the total area. These affect installation and, in a virtual-boundary setup, satellite reception. The manual discusses boundary adjustments and support wire as possible ways to address installation constraints. Check the slope limits
Husqvarna specifies a maximum slope of 30% within the work area and 20% at virtual boundaries. These are separate limits: a slope the mower can traverse inside the work area may still exceed the stated limit at a virtual boundary. Husqvarna Automower 305E NERA support page.

Does the 305E NERA need boundary wire?
No. Husqvarna supports both EPOS virtual boundaries and physical boundary wire. Its “wire-free” description refers to the virtual-boundary option; it does not mean the mower can only be installed without wire. What EPOS installation requires
For Husqvarna’s Cloud correction route, the UK product page says Wi-Fi must cover the whole lawn. Husqvarna also lists a separately purchased EPOS RS1 reference station as a stand-alone route without internet, and an optional Automower Connect kit for cellular connectivity installed by a Husqvarna dealer. The manufacturer quotes typical position accuracy better than 5 cm with Cloud correction and around 2–3 cm with the RS1; these are Husqvarna figures, not independent measurements. Availability of Cloud correction and reference stations varies by country and region, according to the manual, so confirm that the intended setup is supported where you live. When physical wire may suit better
Boundary wire is the alternative supported installation method if the virtual-boundary signal conditions or regional correction options are unsuitable. Installation layout still matters: the manual identifies narrow passages, L-shaped buildings, trees and weak satellite signal as potential complications for EPOS, with support wire and boundary placement changes among the possible responses. Does the Husqvarna 305E NERA need Wi-Fi?
Not for every function or every installation. Husqvarna’s manual says the mower connects to the Automower Connect app through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Bluetooth works when you are near the mower and is used for some settings; Wi-Fi connection enables remote control from elsewhere. For EPOS Cloud correction, however, Husqvarna says Wi-Fi coverage is required across the full lawn. The RS1 route is described as working without internet. EdgeCut and mowing patterns
Husqvarna says EdgeCut is designed to cut lawn edges and minimise follow-up trimming. That is the manufacturer’s intended benefit, not a guarantee that edging or trimming will be eliminated. The manual says EdgeCut can be disabled in the app during seasons with low grass growth. Zones and routines
The product listing includes adjustable virtual boundaries, Automower Zone Control for managing work areas and temporary stay-out zones, Smart Routines, profiles and secondary work areas. It also advertises Alexa and Google Home integration. Check current availability and operation of the integrations in your region and with your firmware before relying on them. What is included with the 305E NERA?
Husqvarna’s UK listing states that the package includes a charging station, six extra blades, a power supply unit and a 10 m low-voltage cable. Package contents may differ by regional SKU, so verify the exact listing before purchase. Husqvarna UK product page.
Husqvarna’s support page lists compatible accessory categories including the EPOS Plug-in for the 305E/310E/405XE/410XE family, the EPOS RS1 reference station, installation kit, maintenance and cleaning kit, replacement blades, Terrain Kit, wheel cleaner and Connect Kit. Who should buy it?
- Consider it if your lawn fits the mode-specific area rating and slope limits, and you want app-based zones or systematic patterns.
- Plan carefully if you want EPOS virtual boundaries: assess full-lawn Wi-Fi coverage for Cloud correction, open-sky satellite reception, and local availability of correction options.
- Look at another installation approach if buildings, trees, narrow passages or slopes make the proposed virtual-boundary layout impractical; boundary wire is also supported.
- Set expectations for edges: EdgeCut is intended to reduce follow-up trimming, but the available evidence does not establish how much trimming a particular lawn will still need.
