On February 24, 2025, televisions at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) headquarters in Washington, D.C., displayed a seemingly AI-generated video of Donald Trump kissing Elon Musk’s feet, with the caption “LONG LIVE THE REAL KING.” Staff stopped the display by manually turning off or unplugging the affected televisions. Reporting and a fact-check confirm that the footage appeared on HUD screens, but do not establish who put it there or how.
What appeared on the HUD televisions
The footage showed Trump kissing Musk’s feet beneath the words “LONG LIVE THE REAL KING.” WIRED reported that a person inside HUD’s Robert C. Weaver Federal Building shared video of the display. Snopes later verified that videos circulating online genuinely showed the footage playing on monitors at HUD headquarters.
That verification establishes that the display happened; it does not establish who arranged it, whether the video was sent through a network, or how the screens were accessed.
How long it played and how staff stopped it
The Record reported that the footage looped for about five minutes, based on sources who spoke with independent journalist Marisa Kabas. Reuters also described it as playing on loop for several minutes. The five-minute figure is a reported estimate, not an official measurement.
#1 Best Overall
- Aging and damaged logic boards are prone to problems such as vertical lines, color blocks and half black screens. Replacing the TV logic board can stably transmit image signals, eliminate all kinds of abnormal pictures, and make TV pictures output completely and clearly.
- The signal processing of fault logic board is disordered, and it is easy to appear color fault and white color cast. Replace the TV logic board to accurately analyze the image data, and the color gradation is natural, fully restoring the original color of the film and improving the viewing experience.
- The output signal of the old logic board is unstable, and the screen flashes and shakes frequently when watching, so it is easy to be visually tired when watching for a long time. After replacing the TV logic board, the signal is continuously and stably output, and the picture is smooth and jitter-free, making it more comfortable to watch.
- Standard compatible logic board parameters match specifications without complicated debugging. After simple disassembly, you can light up the screen normally, and you can easily operate it by yourself.
- If the picture fault is only the damage of the logic board, it is not necessary to replace the whole screen at a high price. Replacing the TV logic board at a small cost can repair the image problem.
Accounts of the response differ in detail. A source cited by WIRED said employees manually turned off each television. The Record reported that staff initially could not turn off the screens and eventually unplugged them. The available accounts agree that staff physically intervened to stop the display.
What HUD said
HUD spokesperson Kasey Lovett told WIRED: “Another waste of taxpayer dollars and resources. Appropriate action will be taken for all involved.” Reuters also reported the statement on February 24, 2025. The quoted response did not identify a responsible person or describe an investigation’s outcome.

Who put the video on the screens?
The reporting reviewed does not identify the person or people responsible. The Daily Beast reported that the HUD clip appeared to be an edited version of footage posted online at least as early as the preceding week, but the creator was not identified.
It is therefore more accurate to describe this as an unauthorized display than to say a particular person hacked HUD. The available reporting does not establish that a network intrusion occurred, explain the television control system, or show what access route was used. The absence of a published finding in these accounts does not prove that no investigation took place.
