Huawei’s 2025 annual report confirms that its Consumer Business Group continued to strengthen its smartphone presence, while a separate report describes a sharp August delivery decline at Seres, the vehicle company behind AITO. Those are different businesses and different measures: Seres reported vehicle handovers, while Huawei says it remains AITO’s technology and ecosystem partner.
What Huawei has confirmed about its smartphone strategy
Huawei’s 2025 annual report says its Consumer Business Group continued to enhance its presence in the smartphone domain. The report names the Pura X widescreen foldable and Mate 80 Series among its products. This is company-reported evidence of ongoing smartphone investment, not a disclosed smartphone market-share target.
Huawei Chairman Liang Hua wrote in the report, “Our overall performance was in line with forecast.” The statement describes overall company performance; it is not a specific assessment of smartphone results or EV sales.
What the reported Mate 90 and overseas plans mean
A ChinaTechNews article published October 8, 2026, reported an October 1 Mate 90 launch, a chip called “LogicFolding,” and plans to expand HarmonyOS overseas within one to three years. Those details have not been corroborated by an official Huawei announcement in the available sources. The chip’s technical or commercial meaning is also not established. Treat these as that outlet’s reported claims, rather than confirmed launch, product, or rollout information.

The same source set does not verify a claimed decline in China’s smartphone market against the original Counterpoint Research publication. Nor does it establish Huawei’s phone availability, prices, or accessory compatibility in particular overseas markets.
Who owns and operates AITO—and who supports it
A September 2026 report by Yicai, hosted by the Shanghai Stock Exchange, said Seres would take full control of the AITO brand. It also said Huawei would continue providing technology support and enabling the ecosystem. That distinction matters: Seres’s vehicle deliveries are not Huawei-wide EV sales, and Huawei’s continuing role does not make it the vehicle operator.

What the Seres delivery figures show
The Shanghai Stock Exchange-hosted report attributed the following handover figures to Seres:

Why Huawei’s software and R&D investment matter to phones
Huawei reported CNY192.3 billion in research and development spending in 2025, equal to 21.8% of company revenue. It said 114,000 employees—about 53.7% of its workforce—worked in R&D as of December 31, 2025. These company-wide figures provide context for its technology investment, but they do not specify how much was allocated to smartphones.
Huawei also reported that, by the end of 2025, more than 36 million devices ran HarmonyOS 5 or HarmonyOS 6, with more than 10 million registered developers and over 350,000 apps and services in AppGallery. These are Huawei’s figures; they do not establish that the same apps, services, or device support are available in every overseas market.
