The Huawei MateView SE can be a good-value everyday monitor, but the name now covers multiple sizes and specifications. The original 23.8-inch model is a 1080p, 75 Hz display; newer regional listings include 27-inch FHD models at 100 Hz and a 27-inch QHD model. Check the exact size, resolution, refresh rate and stand on the listing before buying. For the original 23.8-inch range, choose the standard stand if tilt is enough; the height-adjustable, rotating edition is more useful for portrait documents or a monitor arm.
Which MateView SE is this review about?
The MateView SE name does not identify one fixed configuration. The original model covered in Tech Advisor’s review is a 23.8-inch, 1920 × 1080 IPS monitor offered with either a tilt-only stand or an adjustable stand that can rotate into portrait orientation. Huawei’s later regional listings include 27-inch FHD and QHD versions, with different refresh rates and brightness specifications.

The original 23.8-inch MateView SE has an IPS LCD panel with a 16:9 aspect ratio, 1920 × 1080 resolution and 178-degree viewing angles. Huawei Device Japan’s 2022 specifications give it 90% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB coverage, 1000:1 contrast, 250-nit typical brightness and a 75 Hz maximum refresh rate. Huawei also gives a 92% screen-to-body ratio for that generation.

For office work, web browsing, video and general home use, Full HD at this size is a conventional, manageable configuration. The 75 Hz maximum is a modest step above a typical 60 Hz display, rather than a high-refresh gaming specification. The 250-nit brightness and 1000:1 contrast also set expectations: the screen is not designed to deliver especially bright highlights or deep blacks.
Which stand should you choose?
Standard stand: lower launch price, basic positioning
The standard edition mainly offers tilt adjustment. It suits a desk where the monitor can be placed at a comfortable height without frequent repositioning. At the Japanese launch in September 2022, Huawei listed it at ¥22,800. That is a historical launch price, not a current quote.

Adjustable/rotating stand: better ergonomics and portrait use
The upgraded stand adds 110 mm of height adjustment and 90-degree portrait rotation, as well as tilt. Huawei specifies VESA 100 × 100 mm mounting for this edition. This is the more practical choice for reading long documents, coding, or mounting the monitor on a compatible arm. Its Japanese launch price in September 2022 was ¥26,800.

How good is the picture, and what are the limits?
Huawei advertises device-by-device factory calibration and a typical Delta E below 2, alongside its stated color-gamut coverage. It also lists AMD FreeSync, eBook mode, TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light and flicker-free certifications, and SGS low-visual-fatigue certification. These are manufacturer claims; the available independent review does not provide lab measurements verifying color accuracy, brightness or gaming performance.
Tech Advisor’s review describes the menu’s HDR mode as limited by the panel’s roughly 250-nit brightness and modest contrast. Treat HDR as a menu feature, not a reason to expect the vivid highlights and contrast of a capable HDR television or monitor.

What ports and extras are included?
The reviewed 23.8-inch model has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs. Tech Advisor reports that the box includes an HDMI cable, but not a DisplayPort cable; if you intend to connect over DisplayPort, plan to supply your own. The review also reports no built-in speakers and no 3.5 mm audio output, so audio needs to come from the connected computer or another device.

Tech Advisor describes the monitor as thin, with narrow bezels, straightforward tool-free assembly and a useful joystick for navigating its on-screen display. Those are practical conveniences, but they do not change the core buying decision: the original panel is a modest-brightness 1080p display, and the stand determines how flexibly you can position it.

Is the Huawei MateView SE worth buying?
It is worth considering if you want an affordable IPS monitor for routine desktop use and the exact listing offers the resolution, refresh rate and stand you need. The original 23.8-inch model is best viewed as a basic 1080p, 75 Hz display, not an HDR screen or a high-refresh gaming monitor. Pay extra for the adjustable edition when height adjustment, portrait orientation or VESA mounting has real value at your desk.
For a newer 27-inch listing, make the decision from its own specifications: a 27-inch FHD panel remains 1920 × 1080, while the regional QHD listing is 2560 × 1440. Confirm the precise model, refresh rate, included stand, port versions, warranty and current regional price before checkout.
