Huawei’s MateBook Fold ULTIMATE DESIGN is a real foldable computer, not a two-screen laptop: one flexible OLED display opens into an 18-inch workspace and folds into a laptop-sized form. The “Mission Impossible” comparison is a visual impression, not a product tie-in. The original model launched in China in 2025; a second generation was reported on sale there from August 14, 2026, with updated hardware and higher listed prices.
How the MateBook Fold works
The MateBook Fold is built around a single flexible screen that bends at a water-drop hinge. Open, it presents a large, continuous display; folded, it becomes a more compact device with a 13-inch laptop-mode workspace, according to TechRadar’s 2025 coverage. The original package was reported to include a detachable keyboard, which attaches magnetically at the back when not in use.
That design differs from a conventional laptop with two separate displays: the MateBook Fold’s 18-inch surface is one panel. Huawei’s China product page describes the original model’s screen as an 18-inch dual-layer OLED with UTG ultra-thin glass and handwriting support. Huawei lists 3.3K resolution, up to 1,600 nits peak brightness, and a 92% screen-to-body ratio; these are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. The two generations should not be treated as one configuration. TechRadar’s October 2025 hands-on report describes the original model, while Notebookcheck’s August 2026 report covers a second generation sold in China. The second-generation processor and operating system are reported updates; the available source does not establish that every other specification carried over unchanged.

The 2025 starting price and 2026 configuration prices refer to different generations and should not be compared as if they were current prices for the same model. Neither set of China launch prices establishes what the device would cost if offered in another market.
What hands-on reporting says—and does not establish
In a 30-minute hands-on with the 2025 model, TechRadar contributor Prakhar Khanna praised its touch response, portability, and ability to open into a large screen. He also said, “I wasn’t able to put the MateBook Fold’s power credentials to the test,” and questioned real-world battery endurance. Khanna also raised the possibility that some mainstream software may not be compatible with HarmonyOS. That matters as much as the impressive screen if you depend on specific desktop applications: the supplied reporting does not provide a comprehensive compatibility list. IT Pro’s October 2025 account framed the foldable as a possible travel option for people who might otherwise carry both a laptop and a tablet, while noting that it was not available outside China at that time. The concept is most relevant to someone who values a large, flexible workspace in a device designed to fold down for travel—and who can confirm that their essential apps work on the model’s operating system. Before treating it as a laptop-and-tablet replacement, check the exact generation and configuration, keyboard inclusion, local availability, and compatibility with your workflow. The reporting available here does not establish sustained performance, battery life in full-screen use, or a controlled comparison with other laptops.

Availability is also a practical constraint. The 2025 reports place the original product in China, and Notebookcheck said in August 2026 that sales in other markets had not been announced for the second generation. These reports do not confirm an international release, local warranty, or a listing through any particular retailer. Check current availability in your country before making a purchase decision.
