Hindustan Times’ Oct. 1 evening brief reported that four Israeli passengers helped respond to an alleged cockpit attack aboard flydubai flight FZ1073, while the injured Indian captain, Smit Machchhar, was treated after the plane made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia. Separately, the BCCI ruled fast bowler Prasidh Krishna out of India’s third ODI against West Indies with a left hamstring injury and named Anshul Kamboj as his replacement.
What happened aboard flydubai flight FZ1073?
Hindustan Times reported that FZ1073 was flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv when an alleged attack took place inside the cockpit. The report said Captain Smit Machchhar was seriously injured and the aircraft made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Four Israeli passengers were named for helping respond: Yaniv Hayun, Zvika Manes, Assaf Rajuan and Shota Musaev. Their roles below are drawn from passenger accounts reported by Hindustan Times, not from completed official findings.
Yaniv Hayun
Hayun, described in the report as a plumber, said he was among the first passengers to enter the cockpit. He recounted restraining the suspected attacker and pulling at the controls while the aircraft was still losing control. Hindustan Times reported that two off-duty pilots traveling as passengers then took over and landed the plane.

What is officially known about the investigation and the captain?
The passenger accounts are not a final account of the incident. On Oct. 2, the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority said the investigation was continuing and that it would not comment on details or claims that might pre-empt its findings. It urged the public to rely on official information, as reported by Emirates 24|7.
An Indian government update on Oct. 1 said Machchhar received initial care in Tabuk and had been moved to Abu Dhabi for further treatment, where India’s ambassador met him. The available information does not include a medical prognosis from a treating clinician.
Why was Prasidh Krishna ruled out of the final ODI?
The BCCI said Krishna sustained a left hamstring injury during the second ODI in Guwahati and was ruled out of the third ODI. The Men’s Selection Committee named Anshul Kamboj as his replacement, and the BCCI said Kamboj would join the squad in Chandigarh. India had already secured an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-match series before the final match; the result of the scheduled Oct. 3 ODI is not established here. The BCCI announcement is in its Oct. 1 media advisory.
What was the separate Washington Sundar squad change?
The same BCCI advisory said Washington Sundar would be withdrawn from India’s West Indies T20I squad ahead of the New Zealand Test series. Naman Dhir was named to replace him. The BCCI said the change was intended to support Sundar’s preparation for the Tests; with the Ranji Trophy season due to start on Oct. 11, he would have an opportunity to play red-ball cricket for his state.

Did the Israeli President recognize the passengers?
Hindustan Times reported that Israel’s President announced the President’s Medal for Civilian Bravery for Hayun, Manes, Rajuan and Musaev. The reported statement also credited Tali Mans, the alternate pilots, crew members and Captain Machchhar for their roles. The award announcement is separate from the ongoing aviation investigation.
