On most HP ZBooks running Windows 10 or Windows 11, press Windows + Shift + S to select an area, window, or full screen. To save the entire screen straight to a file, press Windows + Print Screen; look in Pictures > Screenshots.
Choose the capture method you need

These Windows capture instructions apply to most ZBooks running Windows 10 or 11. Key labels and Fn behavior can differ by model and keyboard layout.
Capture a selected area or window with Snipping Tool
- Press Windows + Shift + S. The screen dims and the Snipping Tool capture overlay appears.
- Choose the rectangular, freeform, window, or full-screen capture mode, then make the capture.
- Select the notification that appears to open the image in Snipping Tool. From there, edit, share, or save it.
Microsoft documents this shortcut and the available capture modes in its Snipping Tool instructions.

Save the full screen directly
Press Windows + Print Screen. The screenshot is saved as a PNG in PicturesScreenshots. To locate it, open File Explorer and select Pictures > Screenshots. HP documents the shortcut and destination in its screenshot guidance; Microsoft also describes the saved-screenshot location in its Print Screen shortcut reference.

Copy the screen or active window to the clipboard
Press Print Screen to copy a full-screen image, or Alt + Print Screen to copy the active window. Open a document, message, or image editor and press Ctrl + V to paste. A clipboard capture is not saved as a file automatically; paste it into an app, or use Snipping Tool if you want to edit or save the image. Microsoft explains these clipboard methods in its screen and window capture instructions and Snipping Tool guide.
Capture a menu before it disappears
- Open Snipping Tool from the Start menu.
- Set a short delay, then select New.
- Open the menu while the countdown runs. When the capture overlay appears, capture the menu.
The delay gives you time to open transient screen content before taking the snip. HP describes delayed capture in its screenshot instructions; Microsoft also covers delay in its Snipping Tool guide.

If the Print Screen shortcut does not work
- Check whether the key says PrtSc or PrtScn, or shares its marking with another function.
- Try holding Fn with Print Screen. If you want a directly saved full-screen image, try Fn + Windows + Print Screen when the key marking indicates it is needed.
- If the key is missing or its function is unclear, open Snipping Tool from Start or use Windows + Shift + S.
HP notes that some laptop keyboards require Fn to use the function shown by a key symbol, and that arrangements vary. For a model-specific combination, consult the documentation for your ZBook model rather than assuming every generation uses the same layout.
