HP’s reported OmniBook 5 14-inch is a plausible MacBook Neo alternative if you want a larger OLED screen and Windows, but the headline features need context: its launch OLED panels are rated at 300 nits, and the starting configuration is reported with 8 GB of soldered memory. Tom’s Hardware reported an October 2026 release and a $699.99 starting price; live availability and exact retail configurations have not been verified. The comparison below uses published specifications, not hands-on testing.

What HP announced for the OmniBook 5 14-inch

Tom’s Hardware reported that the OmniBook 5 14-inch starts at $699.99 and uses Intel Wildcat Lake processors. The report describes four color options and OLED displays across the lineup. It listed an October 2026 release, but that does not establish whether a particular configuration is currently available to buy. Tom’s Hardware’s report is the source for the HP details below.

Specification HP OmniBook 5 14-inch, as reported
Processor Intel Core 5 320 or Core 7 350
Graphics Integrated Intel Graphics
Memory 8 GB or 16 GB soldered LPDDR5-6400 at launch; 12 GB was planned for November 2026
Storage 256 GB or 512 GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD at launch; 1 TB was planned for November 2026
Display 14-inch, 1920×1200 OLED, with touch and non-touch variants; launch panels reported at 300 nits
Battery and charging 60 Wh battery and 65 W USB-C GaN charger
Camera 1080p IR webcam
Weight 2.56 pounds
Reported starting price $699.99

Later display and configuration plans

The reported 300-nit OLED panels are the launch display choices, not the brighter panel HP had planned for later. Tom’s Hardware reported a 2560×1600 touchscreen rated at 620 nits for March 2027. It also reported the 12 GB memory and 1 TB storage options as planned for November 2026; those are not launch configurations in the report.

How to read HP’s battery figure

HP’s claim, as reported by Tom’s Hardware, is up to 42 hours of battery life during local video playback. That is a manufacturer claim tied to a specific workload, not a measured result or a prediction for mixed everyday use.

How it compares with Apple’s MacBook Neo

Apple announced MacBook Neo on March 4, 2026, at a U.S. starting price of $599, with a $499 education price at announcement. Those are announcement prices, not confirmation of current transaction prices. Apple describes an aluminum design in blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. Its specifications list the A18 Pro chip, 8 GB unified memory, 256 GB or 512 GB SSD, and a 13-inch 2408×1506 display rated at 500 nits. See Apple’s announcement and MacBook Neo technical specifications.

The screen trade-off

HP’s larger panel and OLED technology may appeal if you prioritize screen size, contrast, or a touch option. But the reported launch panels are rated at 300 nits, compared with the Neo’s Apple-rated 500 nits. Those ratings are specifications, not a direct brightness or image-quality test, and OLED versus Apple’s Liquid Retina label alone does not establish which screen will look better in a particular room or task.

HP OmniBook 5 Flip 2-in-1 14" FHD+ Touchscreen Laptop, Intel Core 7 150U, Intel Graphics,16GB DDR5, 512GB SSD, Copilot, Backlit Keyboard, Win 11 Pro, Silver
  • 【 Intel Core 7 150U Processor】It is a high-end notebook CPU based on the Raptor Lake-U Refresh (RPL-U) series (Alder Lake architecture), which was introduced in January 2024. The CPU offers 2 performance cores (P-cores, Golden Cove architecture) and 8 efficiency cores (E-cores, Gracemont architecture). The P-cores support hyperthreading (therefore 12 threads together) and clock from 1.8 to 5.4 GHz. The E-cores clock from 1.2 - 4 GHz and should offer comparable performance to old Skylake cores.
  • 【14.0 " (1920x1200) touch Display】Intuitive touchscreen technology lets you control your PC right from the screen. Transform your content with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 178-degree wide-viewing angles. Make taking notes, sketching, and editing easier by rotating the screen to tablet or tent mode. Multitouch-enabled, IPS (in-plane switching), edge-to-edge glass.
  • 【Other features】Intel Graphics,Microsoft Copilot,Tuned stereo speakers,HP Audio Boost,HP 5MP IR Camera with HDR Switch, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 11 Home OS.

Memory, storage, and ports

Both products are listed with 8 GB in their base memory configuration, but HP’s reported launch range also includes a 16 GB option, with memory soldered to the laptop. Apple lists 8 GB unified memory. Compare the exact configuration and its price rather than assuming the starting prices buy equivalent capacity. Apple specifies two USB-C ports with different USB standards and a headphone jack; the cited HP report does not give port details, so a port-count comparison is not established here.

Which laptop makes more sense?

  • Consider the HP if you want Windows, a 14-inch OLED display, a touch option, or a reported 16 GB launch configuration. Check that the exact configuration is available and confirm its screen brightness and price before buying.
  • Consider the MacBook Neo if you prefer macOS and Apple’s ecosystem, or you value its 500-nit display specification and want the lower of the two products’ cited starting-price references. The $599 figure is Apple’s U.S. announcement price, so verify the current price.
  • Compare the precise SKU for memory and storage. The HP’s planned 12 GB and 1 TB options should not be treated as launch choices in Tom’s Hardware’s report.

These specifications support a feature comparison, not a performance verdict: no independent head-to-head benchmark or test of these exact laptops is established by the cited sources. The HP looks unusually equipped on paper for its reported starting price, especially in screen size and OLED technology, but its launch brightness, configuration timing, and unverified retail availability are important qualifications.
