HP says its new OmniBook 5 14 AI PC can play local video for up to 42 hours on a charge. That is a controlled video-playback result—not a promise of 42 hours of web browsing, streaming or mixed work. HP announced the laptop on October 1, 2026, with a $699.99 starting price and expected October availability through HP.com and Best Buy.
How long does the HP OmniBook 5 battery last?
HP claims up to 42 hours of local video playback. Its test used continuous 1920 × 1080 video at 200 nits brightness, system audio at the image default, player audio at 100%, and full-screen playback from local storage. Wireless was on but not connected; playback used headphones or speakers. HP says actual battery life varies by configuration, and maximum battery capacity decreases over time and use.
This is HP’s stated test result, not an independent runtime measurement. The announcement does not establish how long the laptop lasts during everyday work, video streaming or browsing.
How much does the OmniBook 5 14 AI PC cost?
HP announced a starting price of $699.99. That is the entry price, not a confirmed price for every configuration; HP says pricing and availability can change without notice. The company expected the laptop to be available in October 2026 through HP.com and Best Buy. That announcement does not confirm current stock or retailer pricing, so check the specific configuration before buying.

What features did HP announce?
HP describes a 14-inch laptop with a range of configuration-dependent options. Several headline specifications are maximums, not features guaranteed at the starting price.
- Processor: Up to an Intel Core 7 with integrated NPU capabilities. HP said Core 7 models were planned for mid-October 2026.
- Display: Up to a 2.5K OLED touchscreen, with 100% DCI-P3 color coverage and brightness up to 620 nits. HP’s announcement does not say that the $699.99 configuration includes this panel.
- Portability: Up to 11.77 mm thin and 1.16 kg, with a 180-degree hinge.
- Ports and charging: Dual full-function USB-C ports and a compact 65W USB Mini GaN charger.
- Camera and audio: FHD IR camera with Windows Hello, dual microphones, Poly Studio-tuned audio and DTS:X Ultra.
- Colors: Smoke Silver, Starlit Blue, Peony Pink and Soft Honeydew.
Because HP presents the processor, display and some dimensions as maximum or option-dependent specifications, confirm the exact configuration’s components and price rather than assuming every advertised maximum comes with the entry model.

- 【 Intel Core 7 150U Processor】It is a high-end notebook CPU based on the Raptor Lake-U Refresh (RPL-U) series (Alder Lake architecture), which was introduced in January 2024. The CPU offers 2 performance cores (P-cores, Golden Cove architecture) and 8 efficiency cores (E-cores, Gracemont architecture). The P-cores support hyperthreading (therefore 12 threads together) and clock from 1.8 to 5.4 GHz. The E-cores clock from 1.2 - 4 GHz and should offer comparable performance to old Skylake cores.
- 【14.0 " (1920x1200) touch Display】Intuitive touchscreen technology lets you control your PC right from the screen. Transform your content with 1920 x 1200 resolution and 178-degree wide-viewing angles. Make taking notes, sketching, and editing easier by rotating the screen to tablet or tent mode. Multitouch-enabled, IPS (in-plane switching), edge-to-edge glass.
- 【Other features】Intel Graphics,Microsoft Copilot,Tuned stereo speakers,HP Audio Boost,HP 5MP IR Camera with HDR Switch, Backlit Keyboard, Windows 11 Home OS.
What the announcement does—and does not—tell buyers
The announcement establishes HP’s specifications, its battery-test method and its expected launch channels; it does not establish independent real-world battery performance or current inventory. The HP announcement is the source for the product claims. A report by Phandroid also describes the launch, but the 42-hour figure should be understood in the context of HP’s own controlled local-video test.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIf you are comparing it with another laptop, compare the actual configurations: price, display resolution and brightness, touch support, memory, storage, ports and battery runtime measured under comparable conditions. HP’s announcement alone does not establish that the OmniBook 5 is better than a competitor.
