For home photo printing, HP’s Envy Photo 7275 and Envy Photo 7975 are the clearest models to compare. HP lists both with a dedicated photo tray and photo-formulated ink; the 7975 adds an automatic document feeder (ADF), which is useful if you also scan or copy multipage documents. These are manufacturer-described options, not independently tested winners. If refillable ink matters more than a dedicated photo workflow, consider a Smart Tank—but check the exact model and country, because the cited Smart Tank comparison is specific to India.

What is the best HP photo printer?

For a household that wants photos as well as everyday documents, start with the HP Envy Photo 7275 if you do not need an ADF, or the HP Envy Photo 7975 if multipage scanning and copying are part of the routine. HP’s US comparison describes both as photo-oriented models with a dedicated photo tray and photo-formulated ink. The available product information supports comparing their listed features, but does not establish which produces better-looking prints in independent testing.

Choose the Envy Photo 7275 for a simpler photo-and-document mix

HP lists print, copy, and scan functions, a dedicated photo tray, photo-formulated ink, a 2.7-inch color touchscreen, and a 125-sheet input tray for the 7275. Its published maximum speeds are up to 15 black pages per minute and 10 color pages per minute. Those are HP specifications, not independently measured results.

Choose the Envy Photo 7975 if you handle multipage originals

The 7975 shares the broad photo-focused feature set and adds an ADF, according to HP’s comparison. That makes it the more relevant option when you regularly scan or copy several pages without placing each sheet on the scanner glass. The cited comparison does not establish an independent photo-quality advantage over the 7275.

What is the difference between HP Envy Photo 7275 and 7975?

The clearest documented workflow difference in HP’s US comparison is the ADF: HP lists one on the 7975, but not on the 7275. Both are described with a dedicated photo tray and photo-formulated ink. HP reports up to 15 black and 10 color pages per minute, and up to 4800 × 1200 color resolution for the compared Envy models; treat these as manufacturer specifications rather than a measure of real-world photo quality.

For the 7200 series, HP Support lists a 15-sheet photo tray and photo media sizes including 10 × 15 cm and 13 × 18 cm. Check the support page for the exact model and regional SKU before relying on those series-level specifications for a particular listing. HP’s product page describes the Envy as able to print borderless photos, but verify the desired paper size and borderless settings against the exact printer’s documentation.

Can an HP Envy print 4×6 photos?

HP’s 7200-series specifications include 10 × 15 cm photo media, the standard metric size corresponding closely to 4 × 6 inches. The listed 15-sheet photo tray is intended for photo paper, so you can keep photo media separate from ordinary paper. Confirm that your exact 7275 or 7975 regional model supports the paper you plan to buy, and check the driver or print dialog for the paper size and borderless option before printing. HP’s product page promotes borderless photos, but media support and settings should be verified for the specific SKU and paper.

For frequent photo printing, a dedicated tray is more convenient than repeatedly swapping paper in the main input tray. Choose compatible 4 × 6-inch photo paper only after checking the printer’s supported media and the paper manufacturer’s compatibility information.

Is an HP Smart Tank good for photo printing?

A Smart Tank may be worth considering if refillable ink and frequent everyday printing matter more than a specifically photo-oriented cartridge setup. HP India positions the Smart Tank 670 for creative and everyday prints and the 790 for home and work productivity. Its India comparison distinguishes models by connectivity, duplex printing, and ADF. These descriptions do not establish that either model matches the Envy Photo printers for photo results, nor should India-specific model details or page-yield claims be applied to a product sold in another country.

Before choosing a Smart Tank for photos, confirm the exact regional model’s supported photo sizes, borderless printing, and media handling. Compare those features with how often you print documents and whether you need duplex or an ADF. HP’s cited comparison is about India models; local product specifications are the relevant reference for another market.

How to compare photo workflow, documents, and ink costs

Photo workflow

  • Look for a dedicated photo tray and confirm its capacity. HP Support lists 15 sheets for the Envy Photo 7200 series.
  • Check that your preferred size is supported; HP lists 10 × 15 cm and 13 × 18 cm for the series.
  • Verify borderless support for the precise paper size and regional printer SKU rather than assuming every size has the same options.
  • Consider how often you will load photo paper. A separate tray can make switching between document and photo jobs less fussy.

Document and scanning workflow

  • If you scan or copy multipage originals, the 7975’s listed ADF is the clearest reason to choose it over the 7275.
  • Check whether automatic duplex printing is listed for the precise regional model if you print on both sides.
  • Confirm input capacity and scanning features in the model-specific specification; do not assume every retailer’s listing uses the same regional configuration.

Ink and ownership cost

Both printer and paper affect the cost of making photos. HP’s comparison includes model-specific cartridge types and yield figures, but no verified cost-per-photo calculation is available here. Before buying, confirm the ink part number for your exact regional SKU, current local cartridge price, and the yield basis HP states. For a Smart Tank, use the local model’s supply and yield information rather than transferring estimates from HP India. Paper compatibility and price also vary, so calculate your own expected spend from the supplies you can actually buy locally.

HP describes Instant Ink eligibility and automatic delivery on its product information, but plan availability, terms, and prices can change. Check HP’s current local service details before treating a subscription as part of the printer’s ownership cost.

What the published specifications do—and do not—tell you

HP’s current US comparison is useful for identifying the Envy 7275 and 7975 as photo-focused options and for comparing listed features such as the photo tray and ADF. Published speed and resolution figures are specifications, not independently measured photo-quality scores. The available product information does not establish lab-tested image quality, photo permanence, reliability over time, or actual cost per print. If those outcomes matter most, seek independent testing of the exact model and paper combination before making a purchase.

HP’s product page calls the prints “true-to-screen” and promotes borderless photos; that is HP marketing language, not an independently verified color-accuracy finding. A printer’s result also depends on the source image, paper, settings, and display calibration.

Buying checklist

  1. Match the product name and model number to the country where you will buy it; HP names and features can vary by region.
  2. Choose the 7275 for the listed photo workflow without an ADF, or the 7975 if you want the ADF for multipage document handling.
  3. Confirm support for your photo-paper size, including 10 × 15 cm or 4 × 6-inch paper if that is your usual format, and check borderless options.
  4. Verify the exact ink part number, local supply price, paper compatibility, and current service terms before estimating ongoing costs.
  5. If considering a Smart Tank, compare specifications for the local model rather than relying on the India-specific 670 and 790 comparison.
