HP has announced two 14-inch laptops powered by Intel Core Series 3 processors, formerly codenamed Wildcat Lake: the consumer HP OmniBook 5 14 AI PC, expected to start at $699.99 in October 2026, and the business-focused HP ProBook 4 G2iS 14 AI PC, expected in November 2026 with pricing not yet announced. The OmniBook is the lighter everyday option; the ProBook offers business durability claims, more memory capacity and a higher-resolution, 120Hz OLED display.
What HP announced
HP’s October 1, 2026 announcement covers two laptops built around Intel’s Core Series 3 mobile processors. “Wildcat Lake” was Intel’s former codename for that processor family, not the retail processor name. HP frames the OmniBook 5 for students, young professionals and everyday multitasking, and the ProBook 4 G2iS for growing businesses and mobile professionals. HP’s announcement

Display and configuration
HP lists OLED screens and configurations up to a 2.5K touch panel with 100% DCI-P3 color and up to 620 nits. That brighter 2.5K panel is not part of the initial launch configuration: contemporaneous reporting says a 14-inch 2560×1600, 620-nit OLED touch option is planned for March 2027. Initial reported display choices are 14-inch 1920×1200 OLED touch or non-touch panels. HP; Tom’s Hardware

The shared processor family does not establish that the two models have identical connectivity, support or warranty terms. Intel describes Core Series 3 as bringing features such as Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 to thin-and-light mainstream laptops, but HP’s announcement does not confirm which of those features are present on either specific configuration. Intel says the family combines integrated NPU AI acceleration with GPU capability and newer connectivity features, and that more than 70 designs from major PC makers are expected. The 17 TOPS figure is HP’s stated maximum for the ProBook’s NPU; HP does not give an equivalent NPU figure for the OmniBook in this announcement. An NPU is a processor block intended to accelerate AI workloads, but its presence alone does not establish how quickly a particular application will run or which software features a laptop supports. - Consider the OmniBook 5 if you want a consumer laptop with OLED options, a low starting price, several color choices and a notably light chassis. Students should compare the actual configuration available at purchase: the 12GB and 1TB variants and the higher-resolution 2.5K panel have later planned availability than the October launch.
- Consider the ProBook 4 G2iS if your priority is a business-positioned machine with a 2.8K 120Hz OLED, up to 32GB memory, a 70Wh battery and HP’s stated MIL-STD durability. Its price and specific configurations were not yet announced, so value against the OmniBook cannot be judged from launch specifications alone.
Neither announcement supplies independent battery testing or hands-on performance results. HP’s 42-hour OmniBook figure is specifically a local-video-playback claim, while no ProBook runtime estimate was provided; those numbers cannot be treated as comparable everyday battery-life results.
