World of Warcraft does not have a charity quest system. It raises money for real causes through limited-time sales of in-game pets and plush toys, and Blizzard announces the beneficiary and the terms each time. Tribute and remembrance quests are a separate thing. They honor fictional Warcraft heroes or explore loss and memory as story themes, and they raise no money. Player-run fundraisers are a third channel, organized by the community rather than by Blizzard.
The three channels at a glance
| Channel | What it is | Does it raise real money? | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blizzard charity campaigns | A limited-time pet (and sometimes plush) sale with a named beneficiary | Yes, under terms set in that campaign’s announcement | Mischief and Make-A-Wish |
| Tribute and remembrance content | Seasonal events and quests that honor fictional characters or explore memory | No | Harvest Festival, “Stay Awhile” |
| Player-run fundraisers | Community events organized by players | Yes, for charities the organizers pick | Running of the Gnomes |
Campaign terms differ each time: the share donated, the end date, the beneficiary and any cap. The historical offers below do not show that any item or donation offer is available now. Check Blizzard’s current shop and announcements before buying or donating.
Blizzard’s charity pet and plush campaigns
Alterac Brew Pup and Make-A-Wish (2013)
Blizzard announced the Alterac Brew Pup on November 21, 2013, as a Battle.net Shop pet. Under the announced terms, 50% of the $10 price went to Make-A-Wish for purchases through December 31, 2013. A bundle with the Enchanted Fey Dragon mount was also offered, with $5 still going to Make-A-Wish. In a 2014 thank-you post, Blizzard reported that sales raised $1 million for Make-A-Wish.

On December 2, 2016, Blizzard said 100% of the U.S. $10 price of the Mischief pet would go to Make-A-Wish through December 31. Regional prices varied. A glow-in-the-dark Mischief plush was sold for $25, and its sales through the same date counted toward the campaign. On February 8, 2017, Blizzard reported that the pet and plush together raised more than $2.5 million USD.

Dottie with Make-A-Wish and WE (2019)
Blizzard announced Dottie on December 3, 2019. It said 100% of the pet’s purchase price through December 31 would be shared equally between Make-A-Wish and WE, and Dottie plush purchases through that date also supported the campaign. The terms excluded chargebacks, refunds, and VAT or similar taxes. Donations from pet and plush sales together were capped at $3 million. The cap and exclusions are the kind of detail that separates a real campaign from a loose “proceeds go to charity” claim.
Shadow and disaster relief
Blizzard’s community feature “The Power of Community: It’s in Your Hands” (March 14, 2018) reported that sales of the Shadow pet and Shadow plush raised more than $1.8 million. The money went to American Red Cross Disaster Relief and the IFRC Disaster Relief Emergency Fund. The source gives only an aggregate total, not a per-item breakdown.

Pledge versus reported outcome
A pledge, such as “50% of the price” or “up to $3 million,” is what Blizzard promised before the sale. The totals are Blizzard’s own retrospective reports. Treat them as that: the company’s statements, not independent audits.
Player-run fundraisers
The 2018 feature opens with the line “The World of Warcraft community accomplishes great things when they come together for a common cause.” It says players had donated over $15 million to charitable causes over the years. That is Blizzard’s 2018 figure, not a current lifetime total. The feature highlights three community events:

- Running of the Trolls, which raised awareness and money for the Trevor Project.
- Icecrown Challenge, which supported the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Blizzard reported that the three events had a combined goal of $9,000 and raised over $22,000. These events were organized by players. Blizzard featured them but did not run them like its shop campaigns.

Harvest Festival
Blizzard’s “In Remembrance: The Harvest Festival Has Arrived” announcement describes in-game honors for fallen heroes:
Rank #4
- Join Illidan's immortal army
- Wield a mythic weapon
- Battle to level 110
- Boost to Level 100 instantly
- The Alliance honors Uther the Lightbringer by lighting a candle at his tomb in the Western Plaguelands.
- The Horde honors Grommash Hellscream by leaving spirits at the Hellscream Memorial in Demon Fall Canyon, Ashenvale.
- Feasts are held outside Ironforge and Orgrimmar.
- Some races get unique tributes through the quest “Honoring a Hero.”
Uther and Grommash are fictional Warcraft characters, and the event is storytelling, not fundraising. The announcement gave dates for that year’s event, so check a current event calendar for this year’s schedule.

“Stay Awhile”
In a January 30, 2023 interview, Blizzard’s quest design team described “Stay Awhile” as “a quiet moment of remembrance.” The story follows the old red dragon Veritistrasz, who has returned home and remembers a black dragon friend from before the friend’s corruption. The quest takes place at Ruby Lifeshrine and has no combat. The designers deliberately did not make the player “fix” the character’s emotional state. It shows how WoW handles grief through conversation, and it has no connection to a real-world cause.

What is and is not established
- The named campaigns above are documented by Blizzard announcements and follow-up posts.
- Blizzard has not published a complete catalog of every charity campaign or every tribute in WoW, so this list is not exhaustive.
- No Blizzard source establishes a full list of quests that honor real people.
- The announcements document the past campaigns, not current stock. They do not show that the plush toys are sold now by Amazon or any other retailer.
How to tell which one you are looking at
- If money is mentioned, find the official announcement and read the beneficiary, end date, percentage, exclusions and cap.
- If it is a quest or seasonal event with no purchase involved, it is in-world storytelling, and no donation follows from completing it.
- If a fundraiser is run by a guild, streamer or community group, send donations to the charity through the organizer’s published page and confirm the organizer is not Blizzard.
