WALTY 2.0 is a smart planter concept that uses a condenser to turn moisture in humid air into liquid water, then routes that water to a plant. It is not an independent or guaranteed water source: the maker says the room needs at least 40% relative humidity, and the available sources do not establish how much water the planter produces in real use.
How the planter gets water from air
WALTY 2.0 uses a condenser. In broad terms, the device cools a surface so moisture in humid air can collect on it as condensation. The collected water is intended to supply the planter’s irrigation system. The concept also includes temperature and humidity sensors, with controls for how often and how long the system operates, according to Hackster.io’s 2024 coverage.
This is condensation-based water collection, not watering from a hidden reservoir that the owner fills. Its water supply therefore depends on the moisture available in the surrounding air, as well as the device’s operation.

WALTY’s campaign FAQ states that the planter needs a minimum of 40% relative humidity to condense moisture properly. That is the maker’s stated operating threshold, not an independently verified guarantee of a particular water yield. A room can meet that threshold without producing enough water for a particular plant; the cited sources do not give a measured output rate.

In a dry climate—or in a dry indoor room—the concept may not collect enough moisture to keep a plant watered. Humidity can also change over time, which may make water collection and irrigation less consistent. Hackster’s coverage raises those limitations but does not report measured water production or energy consumption.
Where WALTY 2.0 is meant to be used
The maker describes WALTY 2.0 as an indoor product. The campaign FAQ warns that an over-refrigerated room may affect performance. For outdoor placement, it identifies a terrace or balcony protected from direct sunlight and rain; it does not describe the planter as suitable for unprotected outdoor exposure.

What it does—and what the owner still needs to do
The FAQ says the planter is intended to support most indoor home plants, from herbs to decorative plants. The owner still needs to know the plant’s watering needs and set the watering frequency accordingly. WALTY automates irrigation; it does not provide all other plant care.
Setup can matter, too: the FAQ advises positioning roots near the bottom of the planter, where water collects. The campaign materials do not establish that the same watering schedule or setup will suit every plant.
