To make your phone easier to see, increase text or display size for a lasting change, or turn on Zoom or Magnification to enlarge part of the screen temporarily. On iPhone, the temporary magnifier is under Settings > Accessibility > Zoom. On Android, look for Settings > Accessibility > Magnification. Samsung Galaxy phones also offer a persistent Screen zoom control under Display.
Choose between bigger text, a larger interface, and magnification
These settings solve different problems. Start with the least disruptive change that makes the screen comfortable to read:
- Font size: Choose this when text is too small but buttons and other interface elements are already comfortable.
- Display size or Screen zoom: Choose this when you want interface elements, not just text, to appear larger all the time.
- Zoom or Magnification: Choose this to temporarily enlarge a specific area or the whole screen when needed.
Magnification can be full-screen or confined to a movable window, depending on the phone. Full-screen mode gives a larger view; a window or partial-screen mode keeps more of the surrounding content visible.
How to enlarge the screen on an iPhone
Turn on Zoom
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Zoom.
- Turn on Zoom, then choose Full Screen Zoom or Window Zoom. Full Screen Zoom enlarges the display; Window Zoom enlarges a resizable area.
- To make Zoom easier to reach, open Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and select Zoom.
Apple documents additional options, including Follow Focus, Smart Typing, a Zoom Controller, filters, and a maximum zoom-level control. Which options appear can depend on the iPhone and its software version. See Apple’s iPhone Zoom instructions for details.

How to magnify the screen on Android
Set up a Magnification shortcut
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Magnification.
- Turn on a magnification shortcut and select one of the options available on your phone. Google lists the accessibility button, holding both volume keys, and triple-tap; availability depends on the Android version and device.
- Use the shortcut you selected to magnify the screen. Use that shortcut again to turn magnification off.
In full-screen mode, drag with two fingers to move around and pinch with two fingers to adjust the zoom. In partial-screen mode, use two fingers to move the magnification window and pinch to change its zoom. Google says Android Magnification can reach up to 8x; that figure is from Google’s support guidance, which does not state a publication year. Check Google’s Android Magnification instructions for the available controls on your version.
What may differ by Android version
Some features require newer software: Google lists keyboard magnification on Android 16 and a magnifier settings panel on Android 14 and later. The menu and shortcuts are not identical on every Android phone. If you cannot find Magnification, search Settings for “Magnification” or check the support instructions for your phone’s manufacturer. Google notes that display settings may also be arranged differently by manufacturer in its Android accessibility overview.

Depending on settings, opening or closing an app while magnified may also turn Magnification off.

Use temporary Magnification

For general Android magnification controls, Google’s Magnification guide describes the available modes and gestures.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Phone magnification is different from a camera magnifier
Magnifying the screen enlarges the phone’s interface or its displayed content. A camera magnifier instead uses the phone camera to enlarge real-world objects. Google’s Android accessibility overview says the Pixel Magnifier app is available for Pixel 5 and later and must be obtained from Google Play; it is not the setting for enlarging the phone interface. Google’s accessibility overview covers that distinction.
Quick Recap
If the setting or gesture is missing
- Search Settings for “Zoom,” “Magnification,” or “Screen zoom”; manufacturers may use different menu labels or locations.
- Check the support instructions for your exact phone model and software version if the listed path does not match.
- On Android, choose a different available magnification shortcut if a gesture is hard to use; not every shortcut is offered on every device.
- If an app closes the magnified view, activate the shortcut again. Google notes that opening or closing apps can switch magnification off, depending on settings.
