For Shokz OpenRun-style bone-conduction headphones, rest the band behind your head, hook the arms over your ears, and position the transducers lightly in front of your ears near your cheekbones. Aim for a secure fit without pressure. Adjust the transducers if they feel uncomfortable or the sound seems muffled or uneven, then check the fit with any glasses, hat, or helmet you plan to wear.
How to put on Shokz OpenRun-style headphones
- Check the model. These steps apply to wraparound bone-conduction designs such as OpenRun. Other Shokz open-ear models may have a different wearing method.
- Position the band. Bring it around the back of your head or neck, then hook the arms over your ears.
- Place the transducers. Rest each one just in front of the ear, against the cheekbone area—not in or over the ear canal. Shokz’s bone-conduction wearing guide describes this placement.
- Make small adjustments. Aim for light, secure contact rather than tight pressure. Play audio at a comfortable level; if it sounds muffled or unbalanced, shift the transducers slightly and reassess how they feel.
- Check the fit before running. Turn your head normally and check for movement or pressure. Repeat the check with the glasses, hat, or helmet you expect to use.

Choose between OpenRun Standard and Mini
Shokz offers OpenRun in two sizes. The company says the OpenRun Mini band is 0.83 inches shorter than the Standard band and describes Mini as suitable for smaller heads or people who prefer a snugger fit. Shokz does not provide a universal head-measurement threshold for choosing between them. Use its FAQ and sizing information, then judge by whether the fit feels secure and comfortable on your head. Check the fit with glasses, hats, and helmets
Headwear can change how a headphone sits or where it presses. Shokz says OpenRun Air 2 is designed to work with most glasses, running hats, and everyday headwear, while noting that fit varies with accessory shape. That claim is specific to OpenRun Air 2, not a guarantee for every Shokz model or combination.

If you wear a helmet, check that both the headphones and helmet stay securely positioned together. Shokz’s helmet guide recommends checking the fit of both devices. If the combination creates pressure or shifts during head turns, adjust their positions before you run.
Comfort and listening safety
Shokz’s open-ear design leaves the ear canals uncovered, but uncovered ears do not make every listening volume or running environment safe. Keep audio at a comfortable level and stay attentive to your surroundings. The fitting steps and compatibility guidance here reflect manufacturer instructions and product descriptions, not independent wear testing; individual comfort and fit can vary.
