Use Rockstar Games’ official GTA VI media page first. It hosts Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, and labels the material “Plays best on PlayStation 5.” On your PS5, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, leave Resolution on Automatic, set HDR to On When Supported, and complete Adjust HDR. Then enable HDR on a compatible 4K television, use an HDMI 2.1-capable cable and select the highest quality offered by the video player.
A 4K HDR television cannot add HDR to an SDR upload. The trailer file, streaming app, PS5 output, cable, intermediary equipment and TV input must all support the format. The exact 4K and HDR options also vary by individual upload and device.
Where to watch the official GTA 6 trailers
Rockstar’s current GTA VI media page is the most reliable starting point. It lists Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. The page identifies the material as playing best on PlayStation 5, which makes it the appropriate source when you want to check the footage on a PS5-and-TV setup.
Rockstar announced on August 6, 2026, that the Extended Look would premiere on Netflix before moving to the official Rockstar YouTube channel and the GTA VI site. In an August 27, 2026 update, Rockstar confirmed that the Extended Look was playing on Netflix and was available on YouTube and the official GTA VI site. Rockstar also said that the Extended Look was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5.

That Netflix statement applies specifically to the Extended Look. It does not establish that Trailer 1 or Trailer 2 are in Netflix’s catalog, nor does it guarantee availability in every country or subscription tier. For those trailers, use Rockstar’s media page or the official YouTube channel.
Choose the source that matches what you want to watch
| Source | What Rockstar identifies as available | What to verify for 4K/HDR | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rockstar GTA VI media page | Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and the Extended Look | Use the player’s quality controls and your display’s HDR indicator | The page does not publish a measured bitrate, peak brightness, frame rate or guaranteed HDR format for each video |
| Official Rockstar YouTube channel | The Extended Look, plus Rockstar’s published trailer videos | Open the player menu and select the highest quality option offered for that specific upload and device | YouTube quality choices differ by video, app and device; a 4K TV does not ensure a 4K or HDR encode |
| Netflix | The Extended Look, according to Rockstar’s 2026 announcements | Confirm that the title appears in your regional catalog and that the Netflix app and TV report HDR playback | Netflix availability is for the Extended Look specifically and can vary by region, account and device |
For a quick comparison, Rockstar’s own page is the best place to confirm that you have the correct trailer, YouTube is the easiest option for checking an explicit resolution menu, and Netflix is a useful alternative for the Extended Look when it is listed in your region. None of these routes guarantees the same encode on every device. A phone, web browser, PS5 app and smart-TV app can expose different quality choices even for the same title.
What you need for a 4K HDR picture
Every part of the playback chain matters. Before changing settings, check these requirements:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- A PS5 connected to a television that supports 4K resolution and HDR.
- An HDMI input on the television configured for its full 4K/HDR bandwidth. Manufacturers use different names, including Ultra Deep Color, HDMI UHD Color and Smart HDR.
- An HDMI 2.1-capable cable. Rockstar lists HDMI 2.1 cabling in its HDR troubleshooting checklist.
- A direct PS5-to-TV connection, or a receiver or HDMI switch whose ports and cables all support the same 4K/HDR signal.
- A trailer upload or stream that actually offers 4K and HDR. Neither the console nor the television can create those formats when the source is SDR or lower resolution.
If your television is not HDR-capable, you can still watch the trailers in the highest SDR resolution the source provides. Buying or changing a cable will not turn an SDR display into an HDR display.
When replacing equipment, solve the weakest link rather than buying blindly. An Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable is a sensible purchase when the existing cable is unmarked, damaged or unable to maintain a stable signal, but it cannot improve a trailer that is only available in 1080p SDR. Likewise, a new 4K HDR television helps only if the PS5, cable and any receiver or switch can deliver the signal to the correct input.
Set the PS5 for supported 4K HDR output
Use the following menu path on the PS5 before opening the trailer. The labels are from PlayStation’s current Video Output guidance.

- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Screen and Video.
- Open Video Output.
- Set Resolution to Automatic. This allows the PS5 to select the highest resolution reported by the TV. If you prefer manual control, choose the highest resolution that the TV and connection support.
- Set HDR to On When Supported.
- Select Adjust HDR and complete all of the calibration screens. Follow the on-screen instructions rather than copying another television’s values.
After saving the settings, open the PS5’s video-output information screen if you need to confirm what the console believes the TV supports. If the reported capabilities are unexpectedly limited, check that the PS5 is connected to the TV’s enhanced HDMI input rather than an ordinary port.
Why “On When Supported” is preferable to “Always On”
On When Supported sends HDR when the game or video supplies HDR metadata and leaves non-HDR content in SDR. Always On converts non-HDR content to an HDR output, which can change the intended appearance of an SDR video. For trailer playback, the supported-only setting makes it easier to tell whether the upload is genuinely HDR.
If the PS5 image flickers
PlayStation documents Video Transfer Rate adjustments of -1 or -2 as troubleshooting options for 4K output problems. Try those values only after checking the cable, TV input mode and any receiver or switch. Lowering the transfer rate can reduce some 4K signal formats, so it is a stability workaround rather than a quality upgrade. Return the setting to its previous value if the problem was caused elsewhere.
Enable the correct TV input and picture mode
Connect the PS5 to an HDMI input that supports the television’s full 4K/HDR capability. Many TVs ship with enhanced bandwidth disabled on individual inputs, so open the TV’s external-input or HDMI settings and enable the manufacturer’s HDR-compatible mode. The label may be Ultra Deep Color, HDMI UHD Color, Smart HDR or something similar.
Once the signal is detected, select Game Mode if the TV provides it. Game Mode is intended to shorten processing delay and usually avoids unnecessary picture processing while you use the console. When diagnosing a washed-out, over-bright or unstable image, temporarily disable AI, Smart, Dynamic or Adaptive picture enhancements and Dynamic Tone Mapping. Rockstar says HGIG may be enabled when the TV supports it; use the television’s own instructions to locate that control.

If the PS5 runs through an AV receiver, soundbar, capture device or HDMI switch, verify every link: the PS5 output port, cable, intermediate input and output, second cable and TV input. A single device that cannot pass the required 4K/HDR signal can force a lower mode even when the TV and PS5 are individually capable.

Play the trailer on YouTube at the highest available quality
YouTube does not guarantee that every GTA VI upload has a 4K or HDR encode. Quality options depend on the individual video, the app and the playback device. Check the actual player instead of assuming that a 4K television will receive a 4K stream.
- Open the official Rockstar upload in the YouTube app on the PS5 or on another device connected to the TV.
- Start playback and open the player’s Settings menu.
- Select Quality.
- Choose the highest resolution option shown. If a 2160p or 4K option is present, select it; if the highest choice is 1080p, the player is not offering 4K for that session.
- Watch the TV’s information banner or picture-mode indicator, if available, to see whether HDR has activated.
Quality may initially be set to Auto, which changes resolution as the connection conditions change. For a living-room test, select the highest fixed option available and allow a moment for the stream to buffer. If playback repeatedly drops quality, the issue is the current device or connection rather than a hidden PS5 setting. Recheck the menu after starting the video because some apps show different options before playback begins.
Do not force the PS5’s HDR conversion setting to compensate for an SDR YouTube encode. With HDR set to On When Supported, an SDR upload should remain SDR, which preserves the source’s intended tone mapping.
Watch the Extended Look on Netflix
Netflix is an official viewing route for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, based on Rockstar’s August 6 announcement and August 27 update. It is not evidence that all GTA VI trailers are available there.
- Open the Netflix app on the PS5, smart TV or compatible streaming device connected to the display.
- Search for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.
- Confirm that the title appears in your region and that your account and device can play HDR content.
- Start playback and check the TV’s HDR indicator or the app’s playback information.
If the title does not appear, availability may be regional or account-dependent. Use Rockstar’s official site or YouTube for the Extended Look instead. If Netflix shows the title but the TV remains in SDR, troubleshoot the HDMI path and TV input before changing picture controls.
Diagnose a blurry, SDR or unstable image
The trailer looks blurry on a 4K TV
- Open YouTube’s Settings > Quality menu and see whether a 2160p option exists. If it does not, that video or device is not offering 4K.
- Check that the PS5 is set to Resolution Automatic or the highest supported resolution.
- Inspect the HDMI input mode on the TV. A standard-bandwidth mode can prevent the console from negotiating the best signal.
- Remove an HDMI switch or receiver temporarily and connect the PS5 directly to the TV. If direct connection fixes the image, the intermediary device or one of its cables is the bottleneck.
- Check the cable. Rockstar’s troubleshooting checklist specifies HDMI 2.1-capable cabling for this HDR setup.
The TV never switches into HDR
- Confirm that HDR is set to On When Supported on the PS5 and run Adjust HDR.
- Verify that the TV supports HDR and that its enhanced HDMI mode is enabled on the exact input used by the PS5.
- Check whether the particular trailer player reports HDR. A 4K SDR upload will remain SDR by design.
- For Netflix, verify that the Extended Look is playing from a compatible app, account and regional catalog.
- Test a direct PS5-to-TV connection if a receiver, switch or soundbar is in the chain.
The image flickers or drops out at 4K
- Reseat both ends of the HDMI cable and try another HDR-capable HDMI input.
- Bypass intermediary equipment to isolate the failing link.
- After those checks, try PS5 Video Transfer Rate at -1, then -2 if necessary. These values can limit some 4K formats, so use the smallest reduction that resolves the instability.
- Restore the original transfer-rate setting when replacing the cable or equipment fixes the issue.
The colors look artificial or over-processed
Set the TV to Game Mode, then temporarily turn off AI, Smart, Dynamic and Adaptive enhancements and Dynamic Tone Mapping while testing. If the TV supports HGIG, Rockstar lists it as an option that may be enabled. Avoid using PS5 “Always On” HDR to force an HDR-looking result from SDR footage.

How to confirm what signal you are actually seeing
Use several checks together rather than relying on one label. First, inspect the player’s Quality menu: a 2160p choice confirms that the service is offering a 4K stream for that device, while an absent choice means you should not expect 4K. Next, check the television’s information banner or input-status page. It may identify the incoming resolution and HDR state, although menus differ by manufacturer. Finally, compare a known HDR source on the same HDMI input. If that source activates HDR but the GTA VI video does not, the trailer encode or app session may be SDR.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not confuse a TV’s picture preset with incoming HDR. A set can display an “HDR” picture mode after processing an SDR signal, and a PS5 forced to Always On can make SDR content look different without adding source metadata. The most dependable combination is a video that offers HDR, PS5 HDR set to On When Supported, the TV’s enhanced HDMI mode enabled and an HDR status indicator during playback.
Common setup mistakes to avoid
- Opening an unofficial re-upload and assuming it has the same resolution or HDR mastering as Rockstar’s version.
- Choosing a random YouTube “4K” label without opening the Quality menu for the current device.
- Leaving the TV’s enhanced HDMI mode disabled after moving the PS5 to a different input.
- Changing several picture controls at once, making it impossible to identify whether the cable, source or TV setting caused the problem.
- Buying a new display before checking whether the existing trailer upload is actually 4K HDR.
- Leaving Video Transfer Rate at -1 or -2 permanently when the original setting was stable; those reductions can limit some 4K formats.
What “4K HDR” does—and does not—tell you
4K describes the video’s resolution class, while HDR describes its luminance and color range. They are separate properties: a video can be 4K SDR, 1080p HDR or neither. The player must offer the desired format, and the console, cable, intermediate equipment and television must be able to pass and display it.
Rockstar and PlayStation do not publish a measured bitrate, peak brightness target, frame rate or guaranteed HDR format for the GTA VI trailers in the available guidance. Do not infer those specifications from a TV’s capabilities or from a “4K” label in a menu. The practical test is the quality option shown for that video and the HDR status reported by the display.
Recommended setup checklist
- Start with Rockstar’s GTA VI media page or an official Rockstar upload.
- On PS5, use Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
- Set Resolution to Automatic, HDR to On When Supported, and complete Adjust HDR.
- Use an HDR-capable 4K TV with HDR enabled on the selected HDMI input.
- Use an HDMI 2.1-capable cable and verify every receiver or switch in the signal path.
- Enable Game Mode; disable extra processing while troubleshooting.
- In YouTube, choose the highest option under Settings > Quality for that specific upload.
- Use Netflix only for the Extended Look, and account for regional catalog availability.
- If 4K flickers, test Video Transfer Rate -1 or -2 only after checking the physical connection.
With those conditions met, the PS5 will output the highest format that the selected trailer and the complete home-theater chain genuinely support. If the source is SDR or lacks a 4K encode, the correct result is a clean SDR or lower-resolution presentation—not an artificial conversion.

Where can I watch the GTA 6 trailer in 4K?
Use Rockstar Games’ official GTA VI media page or an official Rockstar YouTube upload. Open the player’s Quality menu and choose the highest option shown. A 2160p option indicates that 4K is available for that video and device; if it is missing, the player is not offering 4K in that session.
How do I turn HDR on for GTA 6 on PS5?
Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output, set HDR to On When Supported, and select Adjust HDR. HDR also requires an HDR-capable TV, the correct enhanced HDMI input mode and a compatible cable and signal path.

Why does the trailer look blurry on my 4K TV?
Check the video’s Quality menu for a 2160p option, confirm PS5 Resolution is Automatic, enable the TV’s full-bandwidth HDMI mode and bypass any receiver or switch temporarily. If the source offers only 1080p, the TV cannot create genuine 4K detail.
Do I need an HDMI 2.1 cable for PS5 HDR?
Rockstar’s HDR troubleshooting checklist specifies HDMI 2.1-capable cabling. Use one when replacing an unknown, damaged or unstable cable, but remember that a cable cannot add 4K or HDR to a source or display that lacks those formats.

Is the GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix?
Yes, Rockstar announced the Extended Look on Netflix and later confirmed its availability there, as well as on YouTube and the official GTA VI site. The listing can vary by region, account and device, and this does not establish that every GTA VI trailer is on Netflix.
Should PS5 HDR be set to Always On?
No. On When Supported preserves SDR for non-HDR videos and sends HDR when the source supports it. Always On converts SDR content to HDR output and can change its intended appearance.
What should I do if 4K playback flickers?
Reseat the cable, try another compatible TV input, bypass intermediary equipment and then test Video Transfer Rate at -1 or -2. Those settings can reduce some 4K signal formats, so use the smallest reduction that solves the instability.
Can a 4K TV make an SDR GTA 6 trailer HDR?
No. Resolution and HDR are separate properties. The video must contain the relevant format, and the PS5, cable, intermediary equipment, TV input and display must all support it.
