For a selective chronological watchlist, start with Naruto and Sasuke’s childhood clash at the Valley of the End in the original Naruto series, then move into Naruto: Shippuden for their reunion, their post–Five Kage Summit confrontation, the shared attack on Obito, and finally episodes 695 and 696: “The Final Valley” followed by “The Final Battle.”
This is a guide to their major confrontations, not a complete Naruto or Naruto: Shippuden viewing order. One entry, episode 604, is deliberately included as a coordinated battle against a common enemy rather than a Naruto-versus-Sasuke duel.

Naruto and Sasuke fights in order
The table gives the shortest useful route through the rivalry. The first three entries are identified by story placement because exact episode numbers were not established in the verified episode records available for this guide. The final three entries have confirmed Naruto: Shippuden episode numbers.
| Order | Series or arc | Episode locator | Fight type | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Naruto, Valley of the End | Original-series episode number not stated here | Direct duel | The childhood-era battle that defines the rivalry and precedes the Shippuden time skip |
| 2 | Naruto: Shippuden, early reunion and confrontation | Use the early Shippuden reunion sequence after Naruto returns and the team catches up with Sasuke | Direct confrontation | The first major encounter after the original series |
| 3 | Naruto: Shippuden, after the Five Kage Summit | Use the confrontation immediately following the summit storyline | Direct confrontation | Sasuke’s goals and Naruto’s attempt to stop him have sharply diverged |
| 4 | Naruto: Shippuden | Episode 604, “A Heart Filled with Comrades” | Shared battle | Naruto and Sasuke attack Obito together; this is not a duel |
| 5 | Naruto: Shippuden, “Naruto and Sasuke” arc | Episode 695, “The Final Valley” | Final duel begins | After the Kaguya conflict ends, they meet at the valley where their first major clash occurred |
| 6 | Naruto: Shippuden, “Naruto and Sasuke” arc | Episode 696, “The Final Battle” | Final duel continues | The confrontation develops Naruto’s opposition to Sasuke’s plan to bear the world’s burdens alone |
1. The original Naruto battle at the Valley of the End
Why it comes first
Watch the childhood-era Valley of the End clash in the original Naruto series before starting the Shippuden encounters. It is the narrative starting point for Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha’s rivalry: their opposing ideas about strength, recognition, bonds and isolation become personal in a way that later meetings continually revisit.
#1 Best Overall
Keep this battle separate from the Shippuden episodes. The official Naruto: Shippuden overview begins after nearly two and a half years have passed since the intense battle at the Final Valley. That time jump is why the characters, their abilities and their circumstances look substantially different when Shippuden opens.
How to locate it
Episode numbering for this original-series fight is not stated in the verified material used here, so use the “Valley of the End” or “Final Valley” story label in your episode guide rather than relying on an unconfirmed number. Make sure you have selected the original Naruto series, not Naruto: Shippuden. The setting and the younger versions of both characters are the clearest identifiers.
What to remember before moving on
This is not merely an early action scene. Its outcome explains why Naruto treats Sasuke’s return as a personal responsibility and why later confrontations are about rescuing or opposing a friend as much as defeating an enemy. The Shippuden watchlist makes more sense when this emotional and ideological starting point is fresh.

Where it belongs
Next, watch the early Shippuden reunion sequence that occurs after Naruto returns and his team catches up with Sasuke. This is the first major Naruto–Sasuke encounter after the original-series Valley of the End battle and the long time skip.
The verified episode records available for this guide do not establish a reliable episode number for this early confrontation. Rather than attach a number that may be wrong in a particular episode list, identify it by its story position: it is the reunion/confrontation in which Naruto’s group finally reaches Sasuke during the early Shippuden pursuit.
Rank #2
Why this encounter matters
The contrast with the original fight is the point. Naruto returns older and more capable, but Sasuke has also moved further away from the person Naruto remembers. Their exchange establishes that the rivalry is no longer a school-age contest. Sasuke’s choices now affect the safety of the wider shinobi world, while Naruto still frames the problem in terms of saving a teammate.
Viewing tip
Do not jump directly from the original Valley of the End episode to a later numbered Shippuden episode without watching the surrounding story. The reunion is meaningful because the preceding Shippuden material shows Naruto’s return, the team’s renewed mission and the effort to find Sasuke. If your service groups episodes by season instead of by the official series sequence, search by the reunion and Sasuke confrontation titles rather than a season number.
3. The confrontation after the Five Kage Summit
Place it after the summit storyline
The third stop is the major direct confrontation that follows the Five Kage Summit. By this point, Naruto and Sasuke are no longer simply trying to pull one another back toward an earlier friendship. Sasuke’s decisions have become part of a broader political and military crisis, and Naruto must respond to the consequences.
The exact episode numbers for this encounter were not established in the verified episode page used for this guide. Locate it by the “after the Five Kage Summit” story position and confirm the title in the complete episode list for your edition or service. This avoids confusing it with the earlier Shippuden reunion or with the later wartime cooperation.
What changes from the first two meetings
The setting and stakes are more public, but the argument remains intimate. Naruto continues to reject the idea that Sasuke has to carry his pain and decisions alone. Sasuke, meanwhile, is moving toward a solution built on separation and personal control. Their conflict is therefore both physical and philosophical, which is why this encounter belongs in a major-battle watchlist even though it is not the final fight.
Rank #3
Use the surrounding plot as preparation
Watch enough of the Five Kage Summit storyline to understand why Sasuke is being pursued and why Naruto’s response is constrained by events beyond Team 7. Without that context, the confrontation can look like an isolated rematch; with it, the scene marks a decisive escalation before the Fourth Shinobi World War material.

The confirmed episode
Episode 604 of Naruto: Shippuden is titled “A Heart Filled with Comrades.” The official synopsis describes Naruto and Sasuke sizing up Obito and preparing to attack in sync, with their coordinated approach echoing Madara and Hashirama’s teamwork.
Why it is not a Naruto-versus-Sasuke duel
Include this episode because it is a major Naruto–Sasuke combat moment, but label it accurately: they are allies for this attack. Their target is Obito, not each other. Treating episode 604 as another duel creates the wrong chronology and obscures one of the rivalry’s most important developments—the two characters can combine their abilities against a common opponent even though their eventual ideological conflict remains unresolved.
What to watch for
- Coordination: Naruto and Sasuke size up the battlefield and prepare a synchronized assault.
- Contrast with earlier fights: Their cooperation demonstrates how far their combat abilities and mutual understanding have developed since the original Valley of the End.
- War context: The scene belongs to the larger conflict involving Obito, so watching the surrounding war episodes will explain the immediate objective and the danger they face.
Episode 604 should come before the final Valley of the End rematch. It is a cooperation milestone, not the conclusion of their relationship.
5. Episode 695: “The Final Valley”
The final clash begins here
Episode 695, “The Final Valley,” is the first confirmed episode in the final Naruto–Sasuke fight. The official summary states that the Kaguya conflict has ended and that Naruto and Sasuke begin their final clash at the valley where their first fateful conflict took place.
Watch episode 695 immediately before episode 696. The location deliberately connects the conclusion to the original Naruto battle, but the combatants are now at the peak of their abilities and the dispute concerns the future of the entire world rather than the outcome of a single mission.
Required context
Do not treat episode 695 as a standalone rematch. You should first reach the end of the Kaguya conflict so that the characters’ postwar choices are clear. The episode assumes that Naruto and Sasuke have survived the preceding crisis and that the immediate external enemy has been defeated or contained.
What the fight is about
At this stage, Naruto and Sasuke disagree over how peace should be maintained. The valley is familiar, but the argument has evolved: Sasuke’s proposed solution depends on taking the world’s burdens onto himself, while Naruto refuses to accept a peace built on one person’s isolation. Their physical battle is the expression of that opposing choice.
6. Episode 696: “The Final Battle”
Watch it directly after episode 695
Episode 696, “The Final Battle,” continues the confrontation begun in “The Final Valley.” The official synopsis frames the fight around Sasuke’s wish to carry the world’s burdens alone and Naruto’s opposition to that decision.

Episode 696 is the answer to the common question “Which episode is Naruto and Sasuke’s final fight?” The precise answer is a two-episode sequence: episode 695 begins it, and episode 696 carries it through its decisive exchange.

How it fits the official arc
The official series overview identifies episodes 690–699 as the “Naruto and Sasuke” arc. That range is broader than the two fight episodes themselves. Episodes 695 and 696 are the core final confrontation, while the surrounding episodes belong to the same concluding arc and provide the material that leads into or follows the battle.
Do not interpret the arc label as saying that every episode from 690 through 699 is a continuous duel. Use the title and synopsis of each episode when deciding whether you want the complete concluding arc or only the major battle pair.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to follow the list without mixing episodes
Choose the correct series first
- Select the original Naruto series for the childhood Valley of the End battle.
- Switch to Naruto: Shippuden for every later entry.
- Use the official episode title when a service’s season numbering differs from the main series numbering.
Use story locators for the unnumbered entries
The early reunion and post–Five Kage Summit confrontation are included because they are essential rivalry milestones, but their exact numbers were not established in the verified records used for this article. Search your complete episode guide by the reunion or summit storyline, then confirm the title and synopsis before playing. A guide that gives a number without matching the story placement may be using a different catalog or may have mislabeled the encounter.
Use the confirmed titles for the final sequence
- Find Naruto: Shippuden episode 604, “A Heart Filled with Comrades,” for the coordinated Obito battle.
- Find episode 695, “The Final Valley.”
- Play episode 696, “The Final Battle,” immediately afterward.
Common watch-order mistakes
- Starting with episode 695: You will see the final setting and argument without the original Valley of the End parallel that gives the location its meaning.
- Calling episode 604 a duel: Naruto and Sasuke are attacking Obito together, so it belongs under shared battles.
- Putting Shippuden before original Naruto: The Shippuden overview assumes the earlier Final Valley battle and its time skip.
- Treating the list as a full-series order: This is a curated rivalry guide. It does not replace the episodes needed to follow every supporting character or every war plotline.
- Relying only on season labels: Services can organize long anime series differently. Match the series name, episode title and story context.
Is this the complete Naruto-versus-Sasuke episode list?
No. It is a selective list of the major confrontations and one important shared battle. Naruto and Sasuke also meet in shorter exchanges, flashbacks, training memories and scenes that are not full fights. Including every appearance would turn this focused guide into a complete-series chronology, which is a different viewing project.
The six stops here preserve the rivalry’s main progression: childhood opponents, separated teammates reunited, ideological enemies after the summit, temporary battlefield partners, and finally the two-episode confrontation at the Valley of the End.
Streaming and physical-media considerations
Regional streaming availability was not established here and can change by country and service. Check that the catalog includes both the original Naruto series and Naruto: Shippuden, and verify that episode numbers and titles match the official sequence.
If you prefer discs, a Naruto: Shippuden DVD collection can be useful, but check the specific listing for region, language, edition and episode coverage. A manga edition is a separate reading format and should not be treated as a substitute for the episode-order guide above.
Recommended Free Tools
For the cleanest chronological experience, watch the original Valley of the End battle first, follow the two earlier Shippuden confrontations by their story placement, include episode 604 as the shared Obito battle, and finish with episodes 695 and 696 in that order.
