In 2026, the best way to watch an MLB game depends on your physical location, the team you want, and whether that game has a national exclusive. Use MLB.TV for most out-of-market games, a participating club’s in-market service for eligible local games, or a cable, satellite, telecom, or national-media package when rights require it. You can watch through the MLB app on phones, tablets, smart TVs, and streaming devices, and U.S. subscribers can also use the ESPN app on supported hardware. Check blackouts, exclusives, device support, and the current renewal terms before paying.

Choose the right MLB viewing route first

MLB streaming is divided by territory and rights, not simply by whether a team is home or away. A subscription that is ideal for a fan in another state may be the wrong choice for someone who lives inside the club’s home television territory. Start with the game and location, then choose the service.

MLB’s official 2026 materials use “out-of-market,” “in-market,” “home television territory,” and “blackout restrictions.” Those terms describe rights, not the type of device you own. A new streaming device can deliver an app to a television, but it cannot change your location or the rights attached to a game.

How to watch out-of-market games with MLB.TV

What MLB.TV is for

MLB.TV is MLB’s out-of-market streaming service. It is designed for viewers who are outside the home television territory of the club they want to watch. In the United States, a subscriber can access MLB.TV through the MLB app and, under MLB’s 2026 distribution arrangement, through the ESPN app. MLB also offers MLB.TV internationally through MLB; the ESPN-app option described by MLB is for the U.S. market.

  • TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.

“Out-of-market” does not mean every game is guaranteed. A game can be unavailable because your physical location falls inside a club’s home territory, or because a national partner has exclusive rights. Check the specific game in the live schedule rather than assuming that a season package covers it.

Check your location before subscribing

  1. Open MLB’s official MLB.TV or Media Center page and use the ZIP-code restriction check.
  2. Enter the ZIP code for the place where you will actually watch. Restrictions are based on geography and physical location, not only on your billing address.
  3. Look up the team and date in the live schedule. Read any blackout or national-exclusivity notice attached to that game.
  4. Only then compare the available package and its current renewal terms. Official MLB pages can show different 2026 offers depending on the package and sales channel.

A blackout is a rights restriction, not a streaming failure. Changing from a television to a phone, using a different supported app, or buying a streaming stick does not remove it. If you are traveling, the applicable restriction is generally tied to the location from which you are viewing at that time, so check the schedule again from the new location.

How to watch your local MLB team

Use an in-market club service when your team offers one

For 2026, MLB lists in-market, blackout-free streaming subscriptions for 22 of its 30 clubs. These services are intended for eligible viewers in the team’s home television territory and are designed to remove the local blackout for the games covered by that club’s package. Each team can use a different service name, price, billing arrangement, supported device list, and game inventory.

Do not assume that every club has the same offer or that a local package includes nationally exclusive games. Open the team’s current official option, confirm that your ZIP code is eligible, and read which games are included before subscribing. A local package is not a substitute for MLB.TV when you mainly follow teams outside your home territory.

When a television provider is still required

Some local games remain available through cable, satellite, or telecom television providers. The precise channel and provider depend on the club and market. A provider package may be the only route for games that the local club has not placed in its streaming service, and it may also carry a regional network’s additional programming. Ask the provider for the channel and package serving your address; a national channel number is not reliable across markets.

Local and out-of-market subscriptions can overlap

A fan who follows a hometown team and several distant teams may need to evaluate two different rights packages. The local service addresses eligible in-market games, while MLB.TV addresses out-of-market games subject to its own restrictions. Before paying for both, list the exact teams and games you watch most often and mark which are local, out-of-market, or nationally exclusive.

How to watch MLB on a TV

Smart TV or connected television

  1. Connect the television to the internet and install the MLB app from its official app store. If you are using the U.S. ESPN distribution of MLB.TV, install the ESPN app instead or as well.
  2. Open the app and sign in with the account that owns the eligible subscription. Some ESPN-app users must link their MLB account when prompted.
  3. Open the live schedule or Watch section, choose the game, and review any blackout or exclusivity message before pressing play.
  4. Use the app’s audio, alternate-feed, or archive controls when those options are shown for the selected game.

MLB’s 2026 ESPN FAQ lists support for web browsers, iOS, tvOS, Android mobile, Android TV, Fire TV, Fire Tablet, Samsung TV, LG, Vizio, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Xumo, and Cox. The exact model, operating-system version, app-store region, and purchase flow can differ, so verify the listing for your particular television or device. A platform appearing in a general compatibility list does not guarantee that every older model supports every feature.

Television without a supported app

If your television cannot install a supported MLB or ESPN app, connect a compatible streaming device by HDMI, connect it to Wi-Fi or Ethernet, and install the relevant app on that device. Fire TV is one platform MLB lists for the ESPN app. Check the current model’s app availability before buying. The device supplies an app interface; it does not include an MLB.TV subscription, alter blackout eligibility, or unlock a nationally exclusive game.

Using a cable or satellite box

If your game is carried by a television provider, select the channel listed for your market and package. You may still be able to use the provider’s authenticated app on a phone, tablet, or connected TV, but the provider controls the channel rights and login requirements. For a game that is exclusive to a national partner, use the partner’s specified channel or app instead of repeatedly searching the MLB app.

How to watch MLB on an Android phone or tablet

MLB app steps

  1. Install or update the official MLB app from the Android app store.
  2. Sign in to the MLB account associated with your subscription.
  3. Open the app’s Watch tab and select MLB.TV.
  4. Choose an available live game or an archived game. The app displays games that are unavailable because of a blackout or another rights restriction.
  5. Use headphones or the device’s speakers for the live feed. If live video is unavailable, select live audio when it is offered.

MLB’s Android help instructions specifically describe the Watch tab, the MLB.TV selection, live and archived games, and live audio as an alternative when video cannot be shown. Keep the app and Android system current, and use a stable Wi-Fi or cellular connection; video quality and data use vary with the connection.

Watching through the ESPN app in the United States

U.S. MLB.TV subscribers can use the ESPN app on supported Android mobile devices. Install the ESPN app, sign in, and follow its account-linking or subscription prompt. If the app shows no entitlement, verify that you used the same MLB account that purchased the package and that the package is eligible for ESPN distribution. An ESPN login by itself does not create an MLB.TV subscription.

Phone-to-TV casting

If the app offers a cast or AirPlay control and your television or streaming device supports the same standard, connect both devices to the same network, start the game on the phone, and select the television target. Casting changes the display, not the rights. The game remains subject to the location, blackout, and exclusivity rules applied to the account and stream.

How to watch MLB on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Install the current MLB app from the Apple App Store, or install the ESPN app if you are using the U.S. ESPN route for MLB.TV.
  2. Sign in with the account that has the relevant subscription. Complete account linking if the ESPN app requests it.
  3. Open the live schedule or Watch area, choose the game, and check the availability notice.
  4. For a larger display, use a supported AirPlay target or an HDMI adapter that is compatible with your iPhone or iPad and television.

MLB’s 2026 device information includes iOS and tvOS among the supported ESPN-app platforms. Apple device support can depend on the installed operating-system version and app release, so check the current App Store listing if an older iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV does not appear to support the app.

How blackouts and national exclusives work

Local blackout rules

MLB says local restrictions are based on geography and physical location. A club’s home television territory can include more than the city where the team plays, so “I am not in the same city” is not a dependable test. Use the official ZIP-code tool and then inspect the schedule for the game.

National exclusivity

Some regular-season, special-event, and postseason games are reserved for national media partners. Those games may be unavailable on MLB.TV even when you are outside the team’s home territory. The live schedule is the authoritative place to see whether a particular game has an exclusivity notice. If it does, follow the listed national partner’s channel or app and its sign-in requirements.

What to do when a game is blocked

  • Confirm your physical location and repeat the ZIP-code check.
  • Read the schedule notice for a national partner or special event.
  • Check whether your local television provider carries the game.
  • If you only need the result while video is unavailable, use the available live-audio option in the MLB app.
  • For a replay, return after the archive window described below rather than assuming the live blackout has ended immediately.

Live games, replays, and archives

MLB’s live-stream page says on-demand game archives become available 90 minutes after a game concludes. The Android app instructions also describe access to archived MLB.TV games. An archive is still governed by the rights attached to that game, so an on-demand listing does not imply that every live restriction disappears or that every platform receives the replay at exactly the same moment.

To find a replay, open the MLB app’s Watch area, select MLB.TV, and choose the completed game from the available archive list. On a television or ESPN-supported device, use the app’s schedule or library. If a game is not listed after the stated window, update the app, sign out and back in, and check whether the game was subject to a separate national or regional arrangement.

Prices, packages, and renewal terms

There is no single universal 2026 price to quote for every MLB viewing route. MLB’s official pages show different prices for different packages and distribution channels, while local club services set their own prices and terms. Some subscriptions renew automatically. Before checkout, record:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • the package name and whether it is MLB.TV, a local club service, or a provider package;
  • the games and teams included;
  • your market and blackout eligibility;
  • the current one-time or recurring charge;
  • the renewal date, renewal price, cancellation deadline, and refund policy;
  • the account that will receive access on each device.

Do not infer a package’s price from an old article, a different team, or a different app store. Open the current official purchase page for your location and read the billing screen immediately before subscribing. A subscription purchased through one channel may have different cancellation controls from one purchased directly through MLB.

International viewing

MLB describes MLB.TV as available internationally through MLB, but rights are country-specific. A game that is available to a viewer in one country can be restricted in another because of local television agreements. The U.S. ESPN-app distribution described in MLB’s 2026 FAQ should not be treated as an international offer. Check the service shown for your country, the local blackout language, and the supported app in your country’s store.

Minor-league viewing included with At Bat

MLB’s Android help page says subscribers can watch more than 7,000 streamed games for affiliates of all 30 clubs through MiLB First Pitch using an At Bat subscription. This is a separate minor-league viewing feature, not a claim about the number of MLB games in an MLB.TV package. If minor-league coverage is your goal, read the At Bat entitlement and archive details rather than assuming an MLB.TV purchase includes it.

Troubleshoot the most common problems

The game is missing from the schedule

  • Check the date, start time, and time zone.
  • Look for a national-exclusive notice.
  • Run the official ZIP-code restriction check from the place where you are watching.
  • Confirm that the game belongs to the package you purchased; a local, out-of-market, and national package can have different inventories.

The app says you do not have access

  • Sign out and back in with the purchasing account.
  • If using ESPN, complete the MLB-account linking flow and verify that the subscription is eligible for the ESPN app.
  • Check that the subscription has not expired or been canceled at renewal.
  • Update the app and device operating system, then restart the device.

Video will not play on a television

  • Test another app to distinguish a home-network problem from an MLB service problem.
  • Restart the television or streaming device and router.
  • Check the exact model’s app support; a platform-wide listing does not guarantee support for every older model.
  • Use a wired connection where practical, or move the device closer to the wireless access point.
  • Try the supported MLB or ESPN app directly instead of an unsupported browser on the television.

You can hear audio but cannot see video

Audio can remain available when video is blocked by a blackout or when the app offers a separate audio feed. Check the game’s rights notice first. If video should be available, close other streams, update the app, and test the same account on a second supported device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The replay is not available immediately

Wait until at least 90 minutes after the game’s conclusion, the timing MLB gives for on-demand archives on its live-stream page. Then refresh the schedule or library and verify that the game was not subject to a separate rights restriction.

A practical decision checklist

  1. Mark your location: Use the physical address or ZIP code where you will watch, not only your billing address.
  2. List your teams: Separate local clubs, out-of-market clubs, and games you watch only when nationally televised.
  3. Check each game: Look for a local blackout or national-exclusive notice in the live schedule.
  4. Choose the rights holder: Select MLB.TV, the participating local club service, a television provider, or the named national partner.
  5. Confirm the screen: Verify the exact TV, phone, tablet, console, streaming device, or browser model.
  6. Read billing terms: Record the current price, renewal date, cancellation method, and package scope.
  7. Test before opening day: Sign in, install updates, and play an available video or archive so that account-linking problems do not appear at first pitch.

For a television without a compatible app, add a supported streaming device and install the app there. For a phone or tablet, the MLB app’s Watch tab is the direct route; U.S. subscribers can also use the ESPN app where the package and device are eligible. None of these device choices changes the underlying game rights.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
