The most dependable way to watch the original Law & Order as it airs is a live TV streaming service that carries your local NBC station. Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, and Sling TV are listed by NBC among digital provider partners that may unlock live or locked NBC programming, but the channel lineup depends on your ZIP code. Check the local NBC listing before subscribing.
“Law & Order” can also mean Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU), Organized Crime, or another franchise entry. Each has different live and on-demand availability. Hulu + Live TV advertises select franchise episodes on demand and new or syndicated episodes as they air on cable channels. Peacock’s official SVU information says new SVU episodes air Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC and stream the next day on Peacock. Neither statement means every series and season is available in one catalog.
Choose the Law & Order series and viewing mode first
Before choosing a service, write down the exact show and season you want. The original Law & Order, SVU, Organized Crime, and other spinoffs are separate listings. A service may carry a current season of one title while offering only selected episodes, syndicated broadcasts, or no episodes at all for another.

There are three different ways to watch online:
- Live local NBC: You watch the NBC broadcast at its scheduled time through a streaming provider that carries your local station. This is the closest online equivalent to a cable channel.
- Selectable on-demand episodes: You choose an episode from a service catalog. The number of episodes and the seasons available can change.
- Free ad-supported linear channel: A FAST channel continuously schedules episodes. You can join the channel in progress, but it is not necessarily a library in which you select any episode or season.
Decide which of these outcomes you need before comparing plans. A service that is excellent for a live NBC feed may not have the back catalog you want, while an on-demand service may not show the newest episode at the moment it airs.

How live TV streaming delivers NBC
Live TV streaming services receive local broadcast stations and present them inside their own channel guides. When your ZIP code is eligible for a local NBC affiliate, you can open the guide, select NBC, and watch the broadcast live. If the service does not carry your affiliate, subscribing will not create access to that station.
NBC’s help information lists Fubo, Hulu Live, and Sling TV as examples of digital provider partners that can enable access to locked or live content. NBC specifically advises viewers to check Sling availability by location. Hulu also warns that local-channel availability and programming blackouts vary by location.
Local eligibility is therefore a purchase requirement, not a minor detail. Enter your billing ZIP code on each provider’s channel-lineup page, confirm the NBC station call sign or network listing, and then search the provider’s catalog for the exact Law & Order title and season.

Step-by-step: watch the original series live on NBC
- Identify the broadcast you want. Confirm that you mean the original Law & Order, not SVU or another spinoff, and note the episode or season.
- Check your local NBC station. Open the channel-lineup tool for Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, and Sling TV, enter your ZIP code, and look for the local NBC affiliate. Do this before entering payment details.
- Compare the live guide. A qualifying lineup should show NBC as a live channel. If NBC is absent, that provider cannot deliver the local broadcast in your area, even if it carries other national networks.
- Search the exact show. Use the provider’s search field for “Law & Order” and inspect the result’s series name, season number, and episode dates. Do not assume a listing for SVU applies to the original series.
- Confirm blackout notices. Read any location or programming warning shown on the channel page. A channel that normally appears in your ZIP code can still have a temporary blackout.
- Install or open the provider’s app or website. Sign in on the device you plan to use, open the live guide, and select NBC at the scheduled broadcast time.
- Use the service’s recording or restart features only if shown. Features differ by provider and plan. If a recording or restart control is not displayed, do not assume the episode will remain available after the live broadcast.
The exact broadcast time is controlled by NBC’s schedule and your local affiliate. A live streaming subscription does not guarantee that every previous season remains in the provider’s on-demand section.
Using Hulu + Live TV for live and selected on-demand episodes
Hulu’s franchise guide describes Hulu + Live TV as a combined live and on-demand route: subscribers can watch select Law & Order episodes on demand or stream new and syndicated episodes as they air on cable channels. That makes it a practical choice when you want one interface for the live channel guide and a changing selection of episodes.

What to verify on Hulu
- Whether your ZIP code receives the local NBC station.
- Whether the search result is the original series, SVU, or another franchise title.
- Which seasons and episodes are currently marked available on demand.
- Whether a listed episode is available now, scheduled to air, or restricted by a local blackout.
Hulu’s local-channel information says availability and blackouts can depend on location. Two households using the same plan name can therefore see different local channels. Treat the ZIP-code lineup and the episode detail page as the authoritative checks for your address.
Using Fubo for a live NBC broadcast
NBC lists Fubo among digital provider partners that may provide access to locked or live NBC content. The relevant question is not whether Fubo exists in your market generally, but whether your local NBC affiliate appears in the lineup for your ZIP code.
Fubo checklist
- Enter your ZIP code in the current channel-lineup tool.
- Confirm the local NBC affiliate, not merely a national network entry.
- Search for the exact Law & Order installment and season.
- Check the episode page for any replay or on-demand availability after the broadcast.
The official material does not establish that Fubo has every Law & Order season or identical on-demand rights to another service. Use it primarily as a live-TV option unless its current catalog shows the episodes you need.
Using Sling TV where NBC is offered
Sling TV is also named by NBC as a digital provider partner, but NBC specifically directs viewers to check Sling availability by location. Local NBC access is therefore a market-by-market question.
How to avoid a Sling mismatch
- Run the lineup check with the ZIP code where you will watch, not a relative’s or a travel destination’s ZIP code.
- Look for the local NBC station in the guide before subscribing.
- Check whether the listing is live, on demand, or both.
- Search for the exact series and season rather than relying on a generic franchise result.
If NBC is unavailable in your location, Sling may still carry other channels, but it will not solve the specific need to watch the local NBC broadcast of Law & Order.

When Peacock is the better fit for SVU
Peacock’s cited SVU page says new episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit air Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC and stream the next day on Peacock. This is a useful path when your target is a new SVU episode and you can watch after the broadcast rather than at the exact live time.

Keep that qualification narrow. The next-day statement applies to SVU on the cited page; it does not establish next-day access for the original Law & Order, Organized Crime, or every older season. Search Peacock for the exact title and episode before assuming the episode is included.
Peacock’s next-day availability is also different from a live TV subscription. It does not provide the local NBC broadcast merely because an SVU episode later appears in the catalog.
NBC’s own online viewing and rolling availability
NBC’s online availability information says viewers can browse, search, and watch live, and that recent-season episodes may have a limited rolling availability window. A rolling window means an episode can leave the online selection as newer episodes arrive or rights change.
Do not rely on an old episode count or an archived search result. Open the relevant NBC show page when you plan to watch, check which episodes are playable, and note whether the page asks you to sign in through a participating TV provider. The current page—not a past listing—determines what is available.

The free Law & Order FAST channel
NBCUniversal has announced a U.S. free ad-supported Law & Order FAST channel. FAST means “free ad-supported streaming television”: programming runs on a scheduled, linear feed and is funded by advertising.
This format is useful when you want to turn on a channel and watch whatever episode is airing without paying for a live TV package. It is not the same as an on-demand archive. You may not be able to choose a particular season, start an episode from the beginning, or replay a favorite episode whenever you want.
Distribution can change. Before relying on the channel, check the current app or device lineup for your country and confirm that the channel is still offered there. The announcement establishes a U.S. FAST channel, not universal availability on every streaming platform.
How to choose based on your goal

Location, blackout, and catalog pitfalls
Local NBC is not guaranteed nationwide
Network rights are tied to local affiliates. A provider can list NBC as a supported network while omitting the affiliate serving your address. Always perform the ZIP-code check.
Blackouts can override normal access
Hulu says local-channel programming and blackouts can vary by location. Similar notices may appear in other provider guides. If the channel is listed but the program is unavailable, read the blackout message rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app.

Franchise names are easy to confuse
Search results can group several shows under “Law & Order.” Check the full title, season, and episode description. SVU availability does not prove that the original series is available.
Live access and replay rights are separate
A provider may show the live NBC feed but not retain an episode for replay. Conversely, a service may list an on-demand episode without offering the local NBC channel. Confirm both features independently.
Availability changes over time
Recent seasons can use rolling availability windows, and FAST-channel distribution can change. Recheck the catalog and lineup on the day you subscribe and again when a new episode is expected.

- No NBC channel appears: Re-enter your exact ZIP code and review the local-station result. If the affiliate is not listed, compare another provider rather than assuming an app error.
- NBC appears but the episode is blocked: Look for a blackout or rights notice. A temporary restriction is different from a missing subscription feature.
- The wrong series appears: Search the complete title, such as “Law & Order SVU,” and inspect the season label.
- A recent episode disappeared: Check NBC’s current show page and the provider’s episode details. Rolling windows can remove older recent-season episodes.
- You expected an on-demand archive from a FAST channel: Use the channel guide for its scheduled feed. Switch to a service that explicitly lists the desired episode if selectable playback is essential.
- You expected the original series after reading an SVU listing: Verify the franchise installment. Peacock’s cited next-day information is specific to SVU.
A practical pre-subscription checklist
- Exact franchise installment: original Law & Order, SVU, or another series.
- Season and episode, if you need a specific installment.
- Live NBC broadcast versus on-demand playback versus a free linear channel.
- Your viewing ZIP code and the local NBC affiliate.
- Current channel lineup and any blackout notice.
- Current catalog result showing the exact title and season.
- Whether the episode must be watched live or can be watched the next day.
- Whether a changing catalog or scheduled FAST feed meets your needs.
Because service lineups and show rights are volatile, perform these checks immediately before signing up and again if an episode is missing later. This avoids paying for a plan that carries NBC in another market or offers a different Law & Order installment than the one you intended to watch.
