To watch eligible movies bought through Apple and Amazon in either ecosystem, connect your Apple iTunes account and Amazon Prime Video account to the same Movies Anywhere account. Movies Anywhere then shares qualifying movie entitlements with the connected retailer libraries. It does not migrate every title: a movie must be eligible, your accounts must be the correct ones, and access remains subject to the applicable license terms.
Movies Anywhere is free for eligible members. You still pay the retailer for movies you choose to buy, and the service is currently limited to residents of the United States and specified U.S. territories who are at least 18.
How the Apple-to-Amazon connection works
Apple iTunes and Amazon Prime Video are both listed as Movies Anywhere Digital Retailers. Movies Anywhere acts as the shared entitlement layer: after you connect both retailer accounts, an eligible movie purchased or redeemed through one connected account can appear in the Movies Anywhere collection and in the other connected retailer account.
The word eligible is decisive. A connected library is not a universal copy of everything in Apple or Amazon. Movies Anywhere only shares titles that qualify under its current studio, territory, and content rules. A missing title therefore does not automatically mean that account linking failed.

What you need before linking
- An eligible Movies Anywhere account.
- The Apple account that actually owns the movie entitlement.
- The Amazon Prime Video account that actually owns the movie entitlement.
- Access to the email addresses, passwords, or verification methods for those accounts.
- A supported device or browser for completing the account-linking flow.
Connect both retailer accounts
- Create a Movies Anywhere account or sign in to an existing one.
- Open the account settings or retailer-linking area in Movies Anywhere. The exact button label can change as the service updates its interface; look for an option such as Connect Digital Retailer, Manage Retailers, or a similar account-linking command.
- Choose Apple iTunes and authenticate with the Apple account that holds your purchases. Confirm the account identity before accepting the connection.
- Return to the retailer-linking screen, choose Amazon Prime Video, and authenticate with the Amazon account that holds your purchases.
- Open your Movies Anywhere collection and allow time for the connected libraries to refresh. Check one known eligible movie rather than assuming that every title will appear.
- Open the Apple TV app or Amazon Prime Video app and search for that same title. Availability in each app is determined by the title’s eligibility and the retailer’s own catalog and playback rules.
Movies Anywhere’s account terms allow one Movies Anywhere account to be connected to one account at each retailer at a time. A retailer connection cannot be switched to a different account more than once in any 180-day period. Check the Apple and Amazon logins carefully before you authorize the connection; linking the wrong household or family account can leave you unable to change it immediately.
What actually transfers between libraries
Eligible movie entitlements
When a qualifying movie is shared, the service is sharing an entitlement rather than handing you an unrestricted file. Movies Anywhere defines an entitlement as a license to stream or download a particular eligible title and resolution. Continued access depends on the entitlement remaining valid and on the Movies Anywhere and retailer terms that apply to your account.
A movie bought in Apple may therefore become watchable through Amazon Prime Video, and an eligible Amazon purchase may become watchable through Apple or the Movies Anywhere app. The entitlement is still tied to the connected accounts and to the service’s current rules; it is not a guarantee of permanent access independent of those services.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What does not automatically transfer
- Movies that are not eligible for Movies Anywhere.
- Titles bought under a different Apple or Amazon account than the one you connected.
- Content whose availability changes because of current retailer, studio, territory, or service rules.
- A promise that the same resolution, HDR mode, audio track, extras, or interface will be offered identically in every app.
Use the specific movie as the unit of verification. Seeing one title sync successfully proves that the account connection works; it does not establish that an entire retailer catalog will sync.
Who can use Movies Anywhere, and what it costs
Geographic and age eligibility
Movies Anywhere’s Terms of Use, updated July 21, 2026, state that only legal residents of the United States, all U.S. territories, and the U.S.-associated states of the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau may register, subject to retailer and content availability in that territory. The service also requires users to be at least 18 years old. Someone outside those territories should not assume that changing an app store region or using a different retailer account makes the service available.

Free service, paid purchases
Movies Anywhere describes signup and use as free, with no subscription fee for the service. You pay Apple, Amazon, or another connected retailer for movies you elect to buy. Each purchase remains governed by the retailer’s transaction and license terms, while Movies Anywhere’s terms govern the shared entitlement and use of its service.
Choose where to watch a synced movie
After linking, you generally have three playback routes. The best choice depends on where the title appears, which device you are using, the format offered for that title, and whether you need an offline copy.
Recommended Free Tools
| Route | Use it when | What to verify | Offline and format considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Movies Anywhere app or website | You want one collection view for eligible titles from connected retailers. | The movie is listed in your Movies Anywhere collection and your account is eligible in your territory. | Movies Anywhere service limits apply. The service advertises 4K UHD, HDR, Dolby Vision, 5.1 surround, and Dolby Atmos support, but the individual title, device, connection, and software determine what you actually receive. |
| Apple TV app or Apple library | You are already using Apple devices or want the movie alongside other Apple purchases. | The title appears in the connected Apple account and is available for playback there. | Apple’s app and device may expose different download controls or format labels from Movies Anywhere. Check the title and device rather than assuming the displays are identical. |
| Amazon Prime Video | You prefer Amazon’s app, compatible televisions, or Amazon devices. | The title appears in the connected Amazon account and can be played in your region. | Amazon’s own app, device, and download rules apply. A format shown in Movies Anywhere is not a promise that Amazon will present the same format on every device. |
Connecting retailers gives you compatible viewing paths, not identical applications. Menus, captions, audio options, purchase labels, and download behavior can differ even when the underlying eligible movie is shared.
Streams, downloads, and picture quality
Movies Anywhere account limits
Under the July 21, 2026 Terms of Use, a Movies Anywhere account may have up to four concurrent streams, including no more than two concurrent streams of the same eligible movie. These are Movies Anywhere service limits; an Apple or Amazon app may impose additional rules when you play through that retailer.
Movies Anywhere downloads are limited to eight compatible devices at one time and no more than 16 different devices during a rolling 12-month period. A downloaded movie must reconnect to the internet and to your Movies Anywhere account at least once every 90 days to remain available for playback. Retailer applications can have separate download limits, expiration behavior, and device requirements, so treat a Movies Anywhere download allowance as distinct from an Apple or Amazon offline allowance.

4K, HDR, and surround sound
Movies Anywhere advertises compatibility with 4K UHD, HDR, Dolby Vision, 5.1 surround, and Dolby Atmos. Those are service capabilities, not a guarantee that every movie has every format. The title’s master, the entitlement resolution, your television or mobile device, the playback software, and your network connection all affect the result. If one app shows a different resolution or audio label, compare the title’s listing and device support instead of assuming that the accounts are unsynchronized.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy a movie bought on Apple or Amazon may be missing
1. The title is not eligible
The most common explanation is that the particular movie is outside Movies Anywhere’s eligible catalog. Retailer ownership alone does not make a title transferable. Search the movie in Movies Anywhere and consult the service’s current title or missing-movie guidance before changing account connections.
2. The wrong retailer account is connected
Households often have multiple Apple IDs or Amazon accounts. A purchase made under one login will not appear merely because another login from the same household is connected. In each retailer’s account settings, confirm the account identifier and purchase history, then compare it with the account shown in Movies Anywhere’s connected-retailer list.
3. The connection has not refreshed
Sign out and back in to Movies Anywhere, reopen the retailer app, and search for the exact title rather than relying only on a home-screen row. If the title remains absent, use the official Movies Anywhere Help Center topic for a missing movie. Do not disconnect and reconnect repeatedly: the 180-day retailer-account switching restriction makes unnecessary changes risky.
4. The title has a delayed studio rollout
Eligibility can change as studios add films. In a 2026 announcement, Movies Anywhere said Lionsgate titles would join in phases: 225 high-profile films were available at launch, with approximately 100 additional eligible films expected each month through 2026 and early 2027. The announcement said previously purchased or redeemed eligible titles would transfer when each title became available, while some titles might never qualify. Those figures describe that dated rollout, not a guarantee for every Lionsgate release; check the current Movies Anywhere listing before relying on a specific film.

5. You are checking a different version or listing
Search by the exact movie name and release, then inspect the title details in each app. A standard edition, bundle, bonus item, or differently listed resolution may not be represented the same way across services. If the eligible movie is visible in Movies Anywhere but not in one retailer, contact that retailer or follow the Movies Anywhere missing-title instructions rather than purchasing the movie again immediately.
How to troubleshoot a failed or incomplete sync
- Confirm territory and age eligibility. Make sure your Movies Anywhere account is being used from an eligible U.S. territory and that the account holder meets the 18-or-older requirement.
- Verify ownership. Open the Apple or Amazon purchase history and identify the exact account that purchased or redeemed the movie.
- Inspect connected retailers. In Movies Anywhere account settings, confirm that the intended Apple and Amazon accounts—not a second household account—are listed.
- Check the individual title. Search Movies Anywhere for the movie and look for its availability status. Treat a title-level eligibility result as more useful than the fact that another movie synced.
- Refresh playback apps. Sign out and back in, update the app if an update is offered, and search the library directly.
- Use the official help flow. The Movies Anywhere Help Center includes separate topics for connecting or disconnecting a digital retailer, missing movies, redemption, and playback. Select the topic that matches the failure.
- Avoid premature account changes. Because a connected retailer account cannot be switched more than once in a 180-day period, do not disconnect a working account just to test a different login.
Adding a movie with a Blu-ray or DVD digital code
Linking retailer libraries is not the only way to add an eligible movie. Movies Anywhere supports redemption of a digital code included with certain Blu-ray or DVD combo packs. You redeem the code on the Movies Anywhere website or in its app; after redemption, the movie can appear in connected retailer accounts when the accounts are linked.
This route is optional and does not require special hardware. Before buying or opening a physical package, check three details on that individual product: that a digital code is included, that the code is valid for your territory and has not expired or been redeemed, and that the movie itself is eligible for Movies Anywhere. Code inclusion and title eligibility are product-specific, so neither is guaranteed by the presence of a disc.
Account and license precautions
Choose the permanent household connections carefully
One Movies Anywhere account can connect one Apple account and one Amazon account at a time. The 180-day switching rule means that an account-linking mistake can be inconvenient to undo. Use the account that will remain responsible for the movie purchases, and do not link a temporary guest or work account for convenience.
Understand what you own
A Movies Anywhere entitlement is a license for a specific eligible title and resolution, not an unrestricted video file. Streaming and downloading remain conditional on the entitlement’s validity and the service terms. A retailer receipt shows the transaction you made; it does not remove the conditions attached to digital access.

Expect terms and catalogs to change
Retailer participation, studio catalogs, device support, and service limits can change. Before making a new purchase specifically to use across both ecosystems, verify the movie’s current eligibility and the current terms in Movies Anywhere and the retailer where you plan to buy it.
Frequently needed answers
Can I watch every Apple movie in Amazon Prime Video?
No. Only Apple purchases that qualify for Movies Anywhere and are held in the Apple account connected to your Movies Anywhere account can be shared to Amazon. Non-eligible titles remain available only through the service or retailer that supports them.
Do I need to buy the movie twice?
Not for an eligible entitlement that has synchronized successfully. Buying it again before checking eligibility and the connected account can create an unnecessary duplicate purchase.
Does Movies Anywhere charge a monthly fee?
The service describes signup and use as free for eligible members. Movie purchases through Apple, Amazon, or another retailer are separate transactions governed by the retailer’s terms.
Can I use Movies Anywhere outside the United States?
The July 21, 2026 Terms limit registration to legal residents of the United States, U.S. territories, and the associated states of the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, subject to availability. Do not assume that a foreign residence is supported.
Will a downloaded movie play forever without internet?
No. Movies Anywhere downloads must reconnect to the internet and the account at least once every 90 days. Apple and Amazon may apply additional offline rules in their own apps.
