Quick decline messages let you decline an incoming call and send the caller a short text at the same time. Set up or edit your saved replies in the Samsung Phone app, then choose one from the incoming-call screen when you need it.
Set up or edit your saved messages
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap More options (the three dots), then tap Settings.
- Tap Quick decline messages.
- Edit an existing reply, or add one using the controls shown on your screen. In Samsung Australia’s documented interface, tap Write new message, enter the text, then tap the plus icon to save it. Tap the minus icon beside a message to remove it.
Samsung India’s guidance says its documented interface supports up to six saved messages; the limit may differ on other devices or software versions. Samsung India’s call-settings guide does not establish six as a limit for every Galaxy phone.
Send a reply while declining a call
When a call comes in, use the message control on the incoming-call screen. Samsung Australia’s guide says to swipe up to reveal the responses and tap one. The Galaxy S23 series manual describes dragging the Send message bar upward before choosing a reply. Follow the prompt shown on your own screen if the gesture or label differs.

Samsung Australia says the selected message appears to the caller in the Text message app. The cited guidance does not establish universal delivery, billing, or carrier behavior. Samsung Australia’s instructions and the Galaxy S23 series user manual document these call-time steps.

Why the option or gesture may look different
Samsung warns that available settings and screens can vary by wireless service provider, software version, and device. If Quick decline messages is missing, check the current Phone app settings and the support page or manual for your specific Galaxy model and region. Samsung’s general route is Phone > More options > Settings > Quick decline messages, but it is not guaranteed to be identical on every phone. Samsung’s general call-settings instructions include this variation caveat.
Quick decline messages are not the same as blocking a caller: this feature sends a reply while declining a call, while call blocking is a separate Phone settings feature.

Using the feature on a Samsung watch
Samsung Australia also documents a watch workflow: swipe up on an incoming call, choose Send a Message, then select a preloaded response. This describes Samsung’s regional guidance and should not be assumed to apply to every Galaxy Watch model.
