To use PancakeSwap, connect a wallet that holds assets on the network you intend to use, keep that network’s native token for gas, then choose a swap pair and review the quote and wallet request before confirming. A wallet connection alone does not transfer custody of your assets, but every approval and transaction you sign can have consequences. This guide covers the beginner swap workflow and explains how it differs from providing liquidity.
Before you start: choose a network and wallet
PancakeSwap’s getting-started guide is framed around BNB Smart Chain (BSC), while its swap documentation also names Ethereum and Aptos. Its documentation includes separate guides for other networks, including Solana and Monad, so treat this as a non-exhaustive list and check the live app for current network support. Wallet, token, and gas requirements depend on the network you select.
Choose a wallet that supports the network where your tokens are held. A token symbol by itself does not identify its network: verify the network and token contract through a trustworthy project source before trading. PancakeSwap’s BSC setup sequence is to create a wallet, obtain BEP20 tokens, and connect it. See PancakeSwap’s getting-started guide.

Fund the wallet for the swap and gas
Have the token you want to trade in the wallet, and retain enough of the selected network’s native asset to pay transaction gas. The required gas asset and ways to fund the wallet vary by network; for example, PancakeSwap’s Solana setup guide says SOL is used for Solana transaction fees. Confirm the current requirements for your chosen network before sending funds. See the Solana setup guide.
How do I connect a wallet to PancakeSwap?

Open PancakeSwap using its official domain or a bookmark you trust. Check the address carefully, especially if you arrived through a message or search result.

Select Connect in the app and choose your wallet. Labels and screen layouts may change; follow the wallet’s current connection prompt.

Check that the network shown in the app and wallet matches the network holding the assets you plan to use. If it does not, stop and switch networks using your wallet’s normal network controls; do not sign an unexpected request.

Connecting lets the app interact with your wallet for the session; it is not the same as approving a token or signing a swap. Wallet-specific connection instructions, including browser and mobile workflows, are in PancakeSwap’s connection guide.
How do I swap tokens on PancakeSwap?

Open the swap or trade feature. Select the token you will pay with and the token you want to receive. Confirm each token’s network and identity; if there is any doubt about a contract address, do not proceed.

Enter the amount to trade. Review the quoted output and available route details. Check any displayed slippage, price impact, pool or market-maker route, and fees. A quote is not a guarantee that the final execution will match it.

If this is your first time trading that token, the app may request a separate token approval. Read the wallet prompt: confirm that it concerns the intended token and action, and do not approve an unexpected permission or transaction.

Review the swap request in your wallet, including the network and transaction details, then confirm only if they match what you intended. The swap is an on-chain transaction; it is not complete merely because you connected your wallet or entered an amount.

Wait for the wallet and the relevant block explorer to report the transaction result. If it fails or remains pending, check the transaction status before trying again. Possible issues include insufficient gas, a network mismatch, token restrictions, low liquidity, or slippage.
The official trade guide describes connecting, selecting tokens, entering an amount, and approving or confirming through the wallet. If a prompt shows an unexpected network, contract, destination, or permission, reject it and investigate rather than signing through it.
What fees does PancakeSwap charge?
Fees depend on the chain, pool, and route. PancakeSwap’s swap documentation lists the following figures; the page was labeled last updated about a year before September 30, 2026, so these are documented settings, not a guarantee of the fee on a current quote. Inspect the live route and wallet prompt before confirming.

These are pool or trading fees, not necessarily the only costs. Network gas is separate, and a token may impose its own transfer or transaction tax. PancakeSwap’s FAQ gives a 1% token tax as an example only; it is not a general PancakeSwap charge. Check the token’s terms and transaction details as well as the route. Yes. A swap exchanges one token for another in a transaction. Providing liquidity means depositing a token pair into a pool. Liquidity providers may receive trading fees, but the outcome is not guaranteed profit and the position carries different risks.

Providing liquidity: You deposit a pair into a pool. In V3, you select a price range and receive a non-fungible position; if the price moves outside that range, the position may not behave as expected.

Managing a position: The liquidity guide says V3 fees are not automatically compounded; providers can claim fees from position details and can remove liquidity. The pool’s price movements can result in impermanent loss—the difference between holding tokens in an automated market maker and holding them in a wallet.
Pool choice, fee tier, and—on V3—price range affect exposure. Read PancakeSwap’s liquidity guide before depositing; liquidity provision is not a savings account or a guaranteed-yield product.
Security checks before signing

Never share or enter your recovery phrase or private key on PancakeSwap, in a support chat, or in response to an unsolicited message.

Use the official wallet download source and independently verify the PancakeSwap domain before connecting.

Inspect each wallet request. A connection, token approval, and swap are distinct actions; approve only the token and action you intend.

Do not assume a hardware wallet eliminates phishing, malicious-token, smart-contract, or signing risks.
PancakeSwap’s wallet and connection documentation explicitly warns users not to expose keys or recovery phrases. Its wallet guidance and connection instructions are useful references, but always judge the specific request shown in your wallet.
