Open Photos, tap Collections, then scroll to Memories or tap it to see the full collection. Open a memory to browse its photos and videos, or tap Play to watch its movie. The editing controls differ slightly between iPhone and iPad, so follow the steps for your device below.
What Memories does in Photos
Photos automatically groups pictures and videos into personalized collections associated with a person, pet, place, activity, or event. You can browse a memory as a collection, play it as a movie, and adjust its photos, music, and appearance.

Find and play a memory
- Open Photos and tap Collections.
- Swipe through the suggestions under Memories, or tap Memories to see the full collection.
- Tap a memory to browse its photos and videos. Tap Play to start its movie.

Customize a memory movie on iPhone
Start playing the memory, then tap the screen to reveal the controls. The More menu contains photo-management and duration options; the movie controls let you change its music and visual treatment.

Change the mix, look, or music
- Swipe through Memory Mixes to change the combination of music, pacing, and style.
- Tap Filters to choose a look, which applies a consistent color and style treatment to the photos.
- Tap Music to select a song, then tap Done.
Add, remove, or reorder photos
- Tap the screen, then tap More > Manage Photos.
- Tap All to browse your library. Select photos to include; deselect a photo to remove it from the memory movie.
- To change the order, tap Browse, touch and hold a photo, and drag it to its new position.
Adjust duration, title, or cover
- For movie length, tap the screen, then More and choose Short, Medium, or Long. The duration affects how many photos are included, depending on how many are available.
- To edit the title or subtitle, or choose a different key photo, open the memory collection, tap More, then tap the current title. Make the changes and tap Done.

Customize a memory movie on iPad
Open Photos > Collections, find a memory, and tap its Play button. While the movie is playing, tap the screen and then tap Customize.

Choose a look and soundtrack
- Tap Customize Look and swipe through the available Memory Mixes.
- Use the Filters control to choose a Memory Look.
- Tap Music > Change Song to select a soundtrack. Choices include memory soundtracks and suggested Apple Music songs. Apple Music subscribers can also browse their library.
An Apple Music subscription is not required to use Memories or change the movie’s music. Apple’s music guidance describes the available song sources.
Manage photos and their order
- Tap the screen, then tap Browse.
- Select photos to add or deselect photos to remove them. Tap All to search or browse the full library, then tap Done.
- To reorder photos, use Browse and drag a photo to a different position.
Change transitions, duration, or title
- Tap Customize > Transition and Duration, make your selections, then tap Done. Apple lists crossfade and rotate as examples of transition styles.
- To change the title, subtitle, or key photo, tap the screen, tap More, then tap the current title. Make the changes and tap Done.

Make a movie from an album or collection
If you want to begin with a set of photos you chose, rather than a memory surfaced by Photos, open Photos > Collections, select an album or collection, then tap Play. This plays that set as a memory movie on iPad. The option is documented in Apple’s Play memory movies in Photos on iPad.
Share, reduce, or remove memories
- To share a memory movie on iPhone, use AirDrop, Messages, or Mail. You can also play it on a nearby device using AirPlay.
- To share only selected photos and videos, open the memory, tap Select, choose the items, then tap Share.
- To remove a memory from the Memories collection, touch and hold it, then tap Delete Memory.
- To have Photos feature a person, place, or day less often, touch and hold a memory, tap Feature Less, and choose the matching option. Apple says these preferences can be reset from the Photos account controls.

Availability varies by software and device
Apple’s newer iPad guide mentions custom memory movies made with Apple Intelligence, subject to device, language, and regional qualifications. That is a separate, qualified feature—not a requirement for viewing or customizing ordinary Memories. The basic collection and playback steps above are the relevant route if you do not see that option.
